I noticed that Gareth Daley has been cleared to Marbo Park, but he left them after playing in their Premiership to go back to the Colts at the start of the year and was in the Colts best last week.
What is the go with this situation? Has he really left this week? Clearance said today's date or is it a mistake as it seems strange as he was in the best players for Port Melbourne?
He did play well last week at it's a shame he has gone, but only really got a game because millen was unavailable and may not have kept his place this week, although i'm sure he would have got another chance.
I think he has some good friends at marby and gets along with the coach well, so decided he wanted to go back there and have a crack at edfl "A" grade, i'm sure he will go well, he can play.

Hoppers gets another chance at a finals birth.Only one game out and if we can get over Sunshine next week should be back in.Colts could have made it difficult, but is it due to having a really hard hit out last week that has caused the loss this week?Only two goals for the game, Glenorden kicked more than colts today against the cats.

went to todays game Hoppers v Colts. apart from the disgrace of the ground and the lack of fight shown by the Colts i will summarize the game as best i can
Hoppers started brilliantly, you could tell in the first quarter colts would have their work cut out. Havent seen much of Colts but heard alot about them being a tough side and physical but to be honest they looked second to the footy and a bit soft at times and in wet weather which it was all day i thought they would of been better in that department.
Hoppers held a 5 goal lead most of day except colts kicked their only 2 goals of game midway through the 3rd term and everyone thought here they come. but a steadying goal to hoppers took them to 3 quarter time 5 goals up and never in doubt going into last quarter.
better players well to be honest i couldnt see numbers on jumpers due to the mud and everyone looked the same with mud all over faces etc. first half hoppers new recruits were really good. murphy, bourke, downey and thomas all looked very good. taylor was his usual smash and crash self and was solid all day.
for colts their ruckman disapointed me a bit, not his conditions i agree, but heard a few wraps about him so was expecting more. sorry to say rock07 but u didnt have the best of days, u werent on ur own. the 2 jacobs boys tried their guts out all day, and twomey was ok as well. apart from that colts would be very disapointed in that especially after the highs of last week. just goes to show a week is a long time in footy.
wouldnt take too much out of game, it was just a scrap. hoppers very committed and first in for footy. colts will be disapointed but they are a quality side and had alot of tall players which werent suited by the weather...

Luke phipps good write up buddy.....soft are we????
You guys had to win or season over, that ground was a disgrace and we should not have played on it.
Hoppers were more desperate early and in the end that was the difference, would be more than happy to play you guys in finals and finish your season again, that's if you make it.

Ok Rock, let's talk conspiracy theories. I must stress that it's a conspiracy theory but doesn't sound to bad.
Daniel Frazer coaches Hoppers Crossing Two's to back to back flags. He is basically sacked by Hoppers at the end of last year. The one instrumental in the sacking is supposedly..FROSTY. The alleged reason is that the club is going in another direction and Daniel can't take them there. It is alleged that no board members were talking. All transcripts were allegedly buried in the catacombs of Area 51. Taylor is given the job as reserves coach for the 2008 season but also takes his place in the seniors.
The theory is as follows. Taylor is given a year as reserves coach at the expense of a very good coach who is now an assistant at Sunshine (they chased him). Perhaps the powers or power (singular = Frosty) thought "Hmmmm...the boy has to coach the reserves for a year for a number of reasons...one being credibility, then I will take a rest and he can take the senior job." Taylor and Frosty are allegedly, Good Mates. So the plot thickens.
So Rock, where there is smoke, there is often fire. Maybe, just maybe, the whisperer is on the money.
Disclaimer.
Sections of the above conspiracy theory are based on hearsay and unashamed rumor mongering therefore the author cannot be held liable for untruths and defamatory comments. If a person or persons take offense to such a theory then they should duly get over themselves.

Firstly there was no grass at all, and we had no bench or area to coach from as an area of the ground of about 40m was under a foot of water.
IN saying that both sides had to cope with the conditions and hoppers did and we didn't simple, the fact was creative mind said we were soft and this was and is not the case.
We took the game to light, after a good win last week and hoppers getting smashed from st.albans, also it was a do or die encounter for hoppers and we were not up to it in the first half, our hunger did not match theirs. However our second half was much better, showing more desperation and intensity.
Hoppers deserve the win and should enjoy it but i think creativemind11 should have been a bit more graceful in victory, but we will keep that in mind come rd 16.

New conspiracy theory.
How Hoppers orchestrated the win against Port Colts.
On Thursday 8th of May 2008, at Spotswood Football Club's home ground, a Hoppers Crossing F.C. official was spotted, poorly disguised as Groucho Marx, in the vicinity of Spotwsood’s drink bottles. He was seen pouring a fluorescent substance into the bottles. It’s assumed it was a performance hindering substance that should produced have no noticeable side effects. However, Spotswood players reported that their urine produced blinding rays of light that affected their vision over the next two to three days.
They lost the game against Port Colts that weekend. A number of Spotswood players complained of poor vision. The scenes of jubilation from the Port players, singing the theme song in front of their adoring well and truly inebriated fans and subsequent confidence was met with an assuring nod of the head by the same Hoppers official in attendance, who was poorly disguised, this time as Humphrey B Bear.
Meanwhile, Frosty booked the Hoppers Crossing Pool for each training session prior to the big match against Port Colts. Players took a session to get used to kicking drop punts while up to their necks in water. It must be mentioned that Rob Gel is the number one ticket holder at Hoppers and was seen handing weather charts to Frosty on the Monday before training.
Fast Forward to Friday 16th of May, 2008. It is 10p.m. Torrential rain soaks the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Five middle aged men are seen driving a 1975 Holden utility into the Hoppers Crossing Football ground. Two sit in the front and three sit crouched in the back. They step out of the vehicle, each wearing Wyndham City issue fluorescent vests. They proceed to dig a large dam like trench around the visitor’s coach’s box. As the man made dam filled with water, a sixth man, believed to be the same Hoppers official mentioned above, nodded reassuringly despite being again poorly disguised, this time as Scuba Steve. He motioned towards the ground and is believed to have ordered the men to clear it of all grass and dig some more water saving holes. They left at 1.00 a.m. The Hoppers official flip flopped his way into the darkness of the surrounding streets. It is believed that he was set upon by a number of local youths and relieved of his snorkel, goggles, flippers and mobile phone. The locals now have grass on their nature strips….instead of half stripped cars.
A Hoppers player was commissioned to write a brief match report on the Big Footy Forums. In the report, he mistakenly used the word ‘soft’ to describe Prt Colts. He was poorly disguised as forum member creative-mind11. It is believed that he will be severely disciplined by the Hoppers Official, who will be poorly disguised as Tony Soprano. Port Colts will await their turn to severely discipline the offending party. They won't bother with disguises.
So there you have it. Hoppers masterfully manipulated Spotswood and Port Colts to ensure that Spotswood lost and Port Colts would become over confident. They implemented some cutting edge training methods and creative landscaping techniques prior to their game against the confident Colts. The master plan has got them the points but an error in the post match strategy could bring dire consequences. Some schools of thought say that a Port Official threw some coin at creative-mind11 to write the post.

How the f uck could we go in the rooms with no shower after the game, with all the money hoppers have you think they would do something constructive.
Daly had nothing to do with the fight but decided to leave for other reasons.

ROCK
No SHOWERS???? Just add that to the above conspiracy theory. Hoppers were trying to expose you blokes to a deadly germ that resides in the mud at Hogans Road. If not removed from the skin within a two hours of contact, you'll be struck down with streptofilliusnomorefootballusfortheseasonus. It's debilitating and a sure fire way to knock Port Colts out of the competition.

hoppers and us had to play in the same conditions so there is no excuse they deserved to win end of story, the condition of the ground though was the worst i've EVER played on and i doubt it will improve throughout the rest of the yr
speaking to a hoppers crossing official after the game he said they don't no what to do with the ground, having so many jnr teams it is very hard to manage the ground
don't wanna sound like a whinger but hoppers need to do something about there plumbing, to play on a ground that bad in the rain and mud all day and then have no water for a shower after the game is simply not good enough

That ground was beyond repair before yesterdays game. There is no way they can salvage it, it'll either be a mudbath if it rains or as hard as a rock dustbowl if it dries up.

ROCK, umpires have never had decent showers there mate. Probably the worst A Grade ground for the umpys, not that anyone cares of course! Smallest rooms, worst showers. With all the money the club would generate, surely something could be done. Having said that, you both played on the same ground mate, so you can't really blame that.

you can blame the ground to a certain degree borgsta. if anthony mundine was to fight soliman in a ring of jelly and lost would that be fitting...that ground in that state brings teams closer together... example if hoppers played yarrivlle on that ground saturday they would have only won by 10-15 goals on a decent ground they would have beat them by 20-25 goals...that is not playing football in that kind of mud it would have been more like a rugby match...yes they both had to play on it but who did it give more of an advantage too i support neither club and im not fussed by the result either way but in all honesty rain fair enough bit of mud fair enough...but that ground saturday isnt fair enough...football isnt football in them conditions just like football wouldnt be football if they were kicking around a big rock instead of a footy. hoppers were the better team on the day and deserve the win but i dont know how much credibility u can take out of that win on that ground...thats my opinion and each to their own. game should have been transfered to another ground.

all the grounds were yuk on the weekend, that's footy when it belts down. first team to get use to the conditions will benefit first, hoppers oviously settled first , port are a good side they will move on,think about next weeks match i would imagine.
no need to get stuck on the same issue of the ground condition, nothing will change, and i think it's pretty disapointing to even suggest to abandand the match. the 5th spot will be a fight to the end, who does everyone think will miss the spot and finish 6th?

are we all being a tad soft, our game is played in all conditions and good teams adapt.
Grounds used to look like that alot not so long ago.
terrible conditions yes but i can remember grandfinals at yarriville being played in as much mud.

Thank goodness for people like yourself observer, your comments from an unbiased point of view are spot on. Congratulations to Hoppers on their win, they played like their season was on the line and the four points were worth eight in the context how the season is shaping up.
As for the ground, it should also be noted that a "sump" pump ran continuously removing water from the ground for the entire match. To my knowledge that has never happened at a game before.
And one for you Borgie, when the condition of the ground was raised with the umpires your mate Tresidder said "get over it footy is a winter sport".
Under the circumstances you cant argue with that.

The only reason we lost because we were not good enough on the day pure and simple, we offer no excuse.
Those photo's actually make the ground look better than it was, we actually talked about abandoning the game briefly but there was no league offical at all so we just decided to play, glad we did just dissapointed the way we performed and also the shower situation is not good, if the ground is like that we need proper facilities after game otherwise shut the ground.

It would be nice if hoppers fixed up those rooms. I know that with all the rain you cant do much about the ground, but at least a shower afterwards should be an option. If Deer Park can get a new facility up then surely Hoppers Can.

Its not as though the rooms are of a sub standard, the issue is that there was no water in the showers. Not sure if the was a "one of " or an ongoing problem that they have with their plumbing.

its good that obe and rock have taken the loss gracefully and yes they were not good enough on the day but deep down i think they will be confident against hoppers next time round. hoppers should spend 90k on player payments instead of 110k and spend 20 k on rooms ?? we all know you cant buy flags
[quote=footballobserver;11060362]you can blame the ground to a certain degree borgsta. if anthony mundine was to fight soliman in a ring of jelly and lost would that be fitting...that ground in that state brings teams closer together... example if hoppers played yarrivlle on that ground saturday they would have only won by 10-15 goals on a decent ground they would have beat them by 20-25 goals...that is not playing football in that kind of mud it would have been more like a rugby match...yes they both had to play on it but who did it give more of an advantage too i support neither club and im not fussed by the result either way but in all honesty rain fair enough bit of mud fair enough...but that ground saturday isnt fair enough...football isnt football in them conditions just like football wouldnt be football if they were kicking around a big rock instead of a footy. hoppers were the better team on the day and deserve the win but i dont know how much credibility u can take out of that win on that ground...thats my opinion and each to their own. game should have been transfered to another ground.[/quot
I would have thought this would have been a distinct advantage to Port. Agree that these arent the conditions anybody wants to play in though it is a winter sport in Melbourne and although these were much worse than normal, nothing can be done about it. There were worse conditions on the last game of the 2003 season. I was at Hoppers and we played Spotty. Ground under water, mud 6 inches thick, horizontal rain and about 8 degrees. Not the conditions most want to play in although I personally dont mind them. Slows the game down for us fat blokes and you only have to play better than about 1/3 of the guys out there bcos mentally they have already beaten themselves bcos they dont want to be out there due to the conditions. Not sure whats worse, that or hot weather? It was close to 30 degrees up here on Sat and although doesnt sound extreme it was f#cking hot and not all that enjoyable to play in.
The shower situation is pretty ordinary though. The last thing you want is not be able to have a warm shower after a game like that. Apparently the visitor showers have been like that for years. Not sure why they wouldnt get it fixed bcos they did have about 200 plumbers around the club.

Its not as though the rooms are of a sub standard, the issue is that there was no water in the showers. Not sure if the was a "one of " or an ongoing problem that they have with their plumbing.
It has been two years since i been in those rooms, but if they are the same, there needs to be major work there. They have a great chance to turn thier clubrooms into first class like they should be.

Luke phipps good write up buddy.....soft are we????
You guys had to win or season over, that ground was a disgrace and we should not have played on it.
Hoppers were more desperate early and in the end that was the difference, would be more than happy to play you guys in finals and finish your season again, that's if you make it.
Clarkey unless the big uncle had a lap top with him in the TAB on Saturday I doubt he was writing that report, I do believe the our stud Mr.Phipps was sinking pots, eating pizzas and blowing watever cash he had left in his ATM till around midnight at the footy club. You never know with technology these days, he could use that big beek of his to press the keys on the club computer in the admin room?? what are your thoughts?

Good to see Robbie Mentha back in town!
The only reason we lost because we were not good enough on the day pure and simple, we offer no excuse.

I would have to disagree with you rock, colts have never been any good in the wet, the way you guys play, you need a dry day because there are number of jibs that hang out. watching the colts play is like watching YCW

He is having fun playing midfield at the moment but he will play deep fwd at times later in the year and even across h/back where he was great at afl level, but we have a very flexible team so a few surprises come finals times this year should help.
I think to be top 3 at the half way mark will be a great effort after losing players with the ability of lindsay, webb and caddy, all in the top 5 colts over last 10 years, also losing chisnal and with winters and wittmar yet to play we still have alot of improvement ahead of us.

LOL......bale you are who???????
Soft as we are what is the rest of the comp then, we perform in finals when it counts and when the footy is at it's toughest and the pressure is on, but your entilted to your opinion but i doubt it is respected unless you put a name to it, so wE can asses your tough footy career......NOT LIKELY

From the league website:
http://www-static.sportingpulse.com/pics/54/62/5462455_firstImageIMG.jpg
That ground was beyond repair before yesterdays game. There is no way they can salvage it, it'll either be a mudbath if it rains or as hard as a rock dustbowl if it dries up.
What power has the league got to close the ground/transfer games?
This picture makes the ground look fantastic.
Five games of football on Sunday after the sprinklers were turned on over Saturday night has made it even worse.
Hoppers are lucky they are playing the next two games away and then Queens Birthday weekend so a decent break for the ground only if Hoppers move their junior Friday night 3 games,Under 18 Saturday and Sunday 5 games otherwise it won't recover.
Hopefully the League steps in and orders them to move their games over the next two rounds to allow the ground to recover.

lol, after that statement if the colts have any dash you would think the rock will have the colts pretty fired up this week no team likes to be labeled SOFT.Who do the colts have this week,if this is true and the colts wouldnt put there heads over the footy then this may just give a few of the know weaker sides [yc,spotty] a sniff next time they meet.

Rock, You have stated in previous quotes that the Port list is the best it's been for a long time and now you will be happy just to be in the top 3 at the halfway mark.
Do you think you overestimated your list or depth or maybe underestimated the other teams competing for a top 3 spot.

At full strength i still think it's the best list we have had in 6 years but winters and wittmar have yet to play masis and twomey have missed a few along with partridge and mullett[ although these two did not perform well as could be expected in the first few rounds].
I think we are going very well the real bad performance was against albion last week was also dissapointing but good signs in the second half and hoppers just wanted it more.....which is dissapointing.
Yeah numbnuts the question was also when are they likely to be back?

Mango will be out for 6-8 and nobody seems to know how long Spud will be out for. It was meant to be 4 or 5 but is a fair way off still. I guess its hard for him with his business. He cant afford to take time off to get his shoulder right. He has been sorely missed as will the other dud Mango over the next few weeks. Mango also has a crook back from carrying the team, or so he says. Lol. Not sure who else is injured.

having watched alot of wrfl footy over the past 5 years or so i would say that the colts side 3 or 4 years ago was the best they have had over the last few years. hoath in the ruck was dominent, like they had a fifth onballer and then lindsay,o'neill, twomey, jacobs and massis won every loose ball. the supply they got from there backline was unbelievable making it very easy for the players up the ground. there are alot of players still there from that side but alot who arent.
the way they have played in the games ive seen this year they would be happy to be top 3 and that doesnt pose good signs for the rest. they will only improve and they seem to have a knack at playing good footy when it counts.
as for hoppers, yes they are struggling but it will pay off in the next few years with all the young kids that are playing. they would get alot of confidence beating port on the weekend.
onto another subject, the only way the league can get better is to have more reliance on the younger kids and locals. not locals or juniors from 10 years ago but current 17 - 20 year olds. thats where the future is, not with 32 - 35 year olds.
I still think it will be colts v spotty in the big one again.

With Colts losing it may prove how much they miss Lindsay - one of the best local players going around and they lack his drive and spark!

I agree maybe port are getting a bit old and slow, some of teams bit younger and quicker? is the young kid number 5 from colts 2s playing seniors yet he can play? maybe albion ycw play off? now wouldnt that be a big game and days after that on the drink??

I know Yarraville spoke to him because of his past playing days with our coach Rob, however the committee refused to welcome the idea of recruiting average seconds players that request top dollar. Personally disappointed as I know his family well and thought he may be good and lives local but i do admit he holds a very high opinion of himself and football ability. Last I heard he was going to Melton Central which is on par with his skill and talent.

Would have been a nice pick up for yarraville. Definately just a reasonable 2's player at Albion, but he would be a handy player for yarravilles seniors, and the confidence he has in his own ability may have lifted a few of the young players. Asking for coin is a bit rich, but if you dont ask youll never know. Interesting to see if his extra Kgs are affeecting him since he has never been the fittest bloke on the paddock. But hopefully he can stay in the ones wherever he is at. Maybe be a bit of a spark off the pine, and when he goes to the 2nds he sticks with it and bounces back up to the seniors.

Don't take offence Kane, as I stated earlier I would have enjoyed having you at Yarraville and a couple of pots with your family would have been fantastic. What irritated me was the suggestion that you demanded money after not having played a game of senior football for years and a half decent one for a decade. All the best and no hard feelings I am just stating it how I see it and will now stop wasting your precious time.

Interesting reading in the herald sun over the last two days, with afl clubs and some parents of players from the afl saying that some players are suffering depression, due things being written about the player on sites such as bigfooty. Personally i find it hard to believe that players get upset about things written by people that don't really have the courage to put their real name to their post. Although we are all different, i think people should be careful of what they write about others on sights like this, in the U.S.A recently a young girl committed suicide after what she thought was a boy her own age befriending her, then talking her in to ending her own life, but the young boy was infact a woman in her 40's that lived just a few houses down the street. That woman is now facing life in prison.
My point is although we all like to joke and stir we all must be careful not to push someone over the edge to depression or worse suicide. If you do what to be scathing on someone at least put a name to it.
Now the things being written by kane roach seem a little unfair, i thought kane was a quality player did suffer some injuries and took of o.s and missed a few seasons and lost a lot of fitness. At his best he would walk into any A grade side
Aren't you going straight into the senior side, KAOS23?

sunshine v hoppers should be a good game but i think sunshine will be to fast and classy for hoppers, i know they knocked us off last week but i'm sure the fast track will be against them, this week, kangas by 45points
SPOTTY V ST.ALBANS , this will be match of the round spotty with a couple of key injuries but the one of mangan may hurt the most, with the saints having some good talls up fwd, but i think spotty's all over class should see the just get up by 10 points
