View Full Version : Match-Ups VS Carlton
IN: Lee, Lovett
OUT: Dempsey, JJ
Lee is definately due to be given a chance ;), very good player will a string of bad luck soooo far.
Scotland VS Dyson = If he plays well Scotland will have to to a chasing defencive role.
Thornton VS Lloyd = Blues will wat O'hAilpin further up field, LLoyd is too strong.
Waite VS McPhee = McPhee can isolate Waite as a rebounding player, by playing a lead up role, similar to last week.
Carrazzo VS Davey = Davey will provide pressure to the rebounding defenders and the most offensive would be Carrazzo.
Bower VS Lovett = Lovett will have a great game, Bower is unexperienced and will be Stuffed by the end of the game.
Bentick VS Lonergan = Bentick is a known tackler, and with Lonergan always lerking will be a good tactic by Carlton becasue he could come off Lonergan with ease.
Judd VS Slattery =Slattery's strength and running ability will be able to shut down Judd and stop his run, because Slattery will play a close and physical role.
Gibbs VS Winderlich = Gibbs will have to be flat out for the whole game to keep up with Winders, who will play off the wing.
Simpson VS Houli = Will be the best match-up of the match IMO. Houli in great form and Simpson has great underated skill.
Stevens VS McVeigh = McVeigh will again play a tag with the opposition, have to keep an eye on him. He'll have a great match.
Murphy VS Stanton = Stants is due for a good match, and he could use his hard running skills against Murphy, who not used to someone who will stick to him all day everwhere on the field like stanton does.
Houlihan VS Lovett-Murray = NLM will replace Dempsey as the running half back, and houlihan will have his work cut out.
Cloke VS Ryder = Similar height, but Ryder posseses oo much skill and smarts for Cloke, but will have to avoid a 1on1 situation, like he did with mooney.
Fisher VS Lee = Will be a big task for Lee, both players can take great marks and read the play well. Lee could be nominated for Rising Star.
Betts VS Nash = Great Contest, both hardworkers, Nash will have to play well on an in form Betts.
Fevola VS Mal = Fev will be well covered Mal, Fletch, Ryder and Lee all could be rotating opponents.
Edwards VS Ramauskas = Ramanauskas, will play on a young kid like Edwards, so that he can still provide run of backline.
O'hAilpin VS Fletcher = Both tall, both agile, both versitile and can play nearly anywhere on field. Another great contest.
Hampson VS Hille = Hampson has experience down back and will be good contest for Hille when he goes forward. Hille is much stronger and agile tho.
Kreuzer VS Laycock = Laycock will spend time forward and he is a good mark which will test Kreuzer. Kreuzer will tho run a lot also testing Laycock.
Bannister VS Watson = No real need for Bannister in this team, Watson will run him off his feet and will have to be rotated with maybe McVeigh.
Hadley VS Jetta = A hard battle for both players, Jetta has too much pace for Hadley, but Hadley and too much tank for Jetta, will be interesting to watch.
Wait, so Slatts is out but somehow tagging Judd still? Also I believe someone said Hislop had a wrist injury.
Good match-ups, this will be an interesting clash.
i think Stanton will be on Juddy.
Don't under-estimate Bannister. ;)

kruezer is being played as a KP forward this week which will mean that Fletch will take him and Mal will take Fev.
watson and Hadley will go head to head.
Bannister will most likely take jetta or davey in the forward 50.
Jamison will go to lloyd, and i feel that Hille will be played alongside him to test the Carlton defence so thornton may pick up Hille.
Bower to Mcphee on a half forward flank.
waite will probably pick up lovett-murray if he goes to CHF.
Scotland should pick up lovett in included in the side.
Ryder will pick up Fisher
Winders did a good job last week against the smaller, quicker Geelong forwards so i would think that he would get the job on betts.
Mcvigh vs Judd could be a cracker should it eventuate.
and my last match up has Nash picking up Houlihan.
Carazzo vs Stanton will be an interesting match-up.
Should be a good test of character.

i know but i'm sure you kniw he can't play mid all day with Jobe:rolleyes:
Ryder won't take Fisher, Ryder's height will be needed against their rotating ruckman (Cloke, Hampson and Kreuzer)
What do you think about Lee starting

Kruezer won't ruck if Cloke and Hampson play, Paddy won't be needed there
I wouldn't be dissapointed to see Lee, he might straighten us up a bit up forward

For most of the match, 1 of Kreuzer, Hampson and Cloke will play forward as will Hille and Laycock, Ryder will take player who goes forward;)

I think you've got too many matchups there, we rotate too much for that to happen...
I also think Lee will play.
Lloyd - Jamieson
EFC Resting Ruckman - Setanta
Welsh - Thornton (Welsh to play the role he played so well last year)
McPhee - Waite
Michael - Fev
Betts - Slattery
Judd - McVeigh
Scotland - Houli
Stevens and Watson could go head to head.
Keep in mind, for the most part we don't run defensive players through the midfield and flanks. We rotate through there and match ups in those positions are only ever temporary.
We'll run with Judd, wouldn't be surprised to see us shut down Betts. The rest will probably rotate through. The talls of course getting set opponents.

Thornton always goes to Lloyd
What has Lee done to deserve a game?
Thornton always goes to Lloyd
Jamison played on him last time, but Thornton was injured.
They seem to want to free up Thornton now, so it will be interesting.
Jamison might not come up this week, so Thornton would definitely get him then.

Loyd would kick at least 5 if Jamieson lined up on him. Too big, too strong for the kid. Would Thornton be tall enough? Waite could get Lloyd, but most likely at the start he will line up on McPhee.

Thornton always goes to Lloyd
Jamison played on him last time and although Thornton was injured he's now playing a different role.
They're developing Jamison into their next full back, I don't see any reason why he won't start on him.
What has Lee done to deserve a game?
Sometimes you just need to pick a bloke that helps your structure.
I think the games he has played, have been pretty solid.

Played well consistantly

Played well consistantly
surely pev back in this week to tag Judd , granted Judd was far from 100
% last year when playing for WCE but Pev toweled him up at Telstra last year in that epic few point win..
Lyold win kill Thornton if he leads and doesnt try and get into a wrestling contest which usually results in a free kick being given away.
Hopefully welsh its far away from playing in the 1's can never question his ability to provide a contest or shirk the hard ball

This is from afl.com.au
"Priority RoundSelection 17Shaun Hampson DOB - 21/03/1988 Hgt - 200.8 Wgt - 93.1 Developing young ruckman with only 2 years experience in the game switching from soccer. Quick and agile, played for QLD at U18 level this year. Recorded 3.00sec for 20m at NAB AFL Draft Camp, outstanding for his size, coupled with an 86cm vertical leap, placing him in the top 5% of players tested."

Shaun Hampson certainly does have an impressive leap. Going by his pre-season form though, he was okay (especially in the first NAB game), but he didn't exactly set the world on fire.
Hille is in pretty good form; just two weeks ago made Hamish McIntosh look ordinary.

Just thought i'd throw my two cents in.
I have a feeling Armfield/Browne or both will play this week. Your speed is a worry and both these players are quick, especially Armfield. Also don't be surpised at all if Waite plays forward this week. No Lucas for you guys so i think Waite would be wasted on McPhee (if he plays CHF). I think Bower might go to McPhee and we might try to stretch you down back with Waite, Fisher, rotating ruckman and Fev. (This mean no triple or even double teaming Fev)
Mal/Fletcher - Fev
Ryder - Waite (playing forward)
Lloyd - Jamison
Armfield - Davey/Jetta
Pffeifer - Davey/Jetta
Resting Essendon Ruckman - O'hAlpain
Not sure about the midfield match-ups, could go many ways but i think we will obviously pay close attention to Stanton and i have a feeling Bannister (if he plays) will play on Watson, especially when he goes forward like last week. Just my thoughts.

He has played FB a fair bit for Bullants:thumbsu:
aparently NLM has been ruled out this week as well as Dempsey!
welsh and lovett are the obvious replacements for those two. than knighta just has to figure out if we need another marking target up forward
