Just letting you guys know that if you need any help or advice for telstra related stuff, i can help.

You would be very much surprised at how good the prices can get if you inform me that you barrack for Hawthorn. An experienced (slightly dodgy) chap can do all sorts of things to say for instance, shorten your contract by a bit for free or hook you up with a new phone on a plan that they dont really tell you about if you prove that you have superb taste by following the mighty hawks,

PM me if you want any advice or have a question.

I had to go with Telstra for home phone and ADSL, because no other provider could offer ADSL.

What can you do to help?

If your already signed up there aint much that i can do to make it any cheaper. Just make sure you sign up to online Billing because you will get 9 months half price with a home phone.

Bigpond is good because you can watch full match replays. I was watching the Melbourne game again last night. Doesn't come out of your downloads either.

Alright, I love to save money!
I am moving soon, I pay too much for internet, mobile and phone, like $300 a month average. I am with Telstra. What do you suggest when I move. My mobile contract still has 6 or so months to run, but the net and home phone is ready to get recontracted or whatever term you wish to use. Give me your hot tip detox.

Telstra actually sucked me in when I upgraded to the nextg network a fair while ago. They told me I would recieve a free phone, a sumsung one. No problem there, but I've always had Nokia's. So i asked the chap on the phone if I would be able to buy a Nokia or set it up on a plan like I had done on the past with the new network. He told me I could.

So i sign up, wait for my new samsung phone to arrive and then after I looking for new Nokia models on the net I realsie Nokia dont yet actually make phones suited to the nextG network.
SO I had to put up with the samsung phone. and my perfectly good nokia that i was already using was now void.

Detox, do they have Nokia's on plans now? and If i'm already on a plan, a capped one, can i get a phone in that same sort of bundle or do i have to buy one outright?

No offence detox, but tel$tra is one of the worst companies to deal with in Australia and I would not recommend them to anyone.

Currently my home phone is through Soul, my mobile is Vodafone and my internet is with Adam. Even when you get the tel$tra bundle with these services, it is still more expensive and the support is sh1t at best.

I also have to deal with their corporate arm with my work and they really are terrible to deal with. I've had to write a few reports about their "service", which is more work for me and they still keep f'ing up.:thumbsd:

And another thing, they are killing competition with help from the federal government - something that really irks me.

So if you can help people with their tel$tra problems and help them out, then full credit to you. The best advice is shop around and you will save $$$ while getting better service.

Just in the process of signing up with bigpond and telstra for my home phone. I am doing the liberty $69.95 a month plan for 1500k internet. But because I chose first 3 months free they are giving me 8000k for 3 months.

Pretty happy with this atm, but can barracking for Hawthorn make me even happier? :D

haha

I could almost be a full time agent to this board.

With broadband that is the least flexible. Just make sure you have it combined with any mobile and phone bill to get rewards, apart from that there is not much i can do with BB. If you are out of contract the only way to make it cheaper is to cancel your service and resign. You'll be without net for a week but you will get half price for 9 months when you reconnect (or 12 if you have a mobile as well) You will have to change your email address though.

Depens mate. I will give you my unbiased opinion

I have had a home phone and internet with Optus. Terrible service, Terrible support. My Telstra standard ADSL is quicker then optus ADSL 2 i have used in 2 different houses. Price is a little cheaper with optus. Bigpond also gives you unlimited football highlights and replays without taking anything from your download limit whilst watching them. If you go by price, You will not like Telstra, but we do provide the best. I have to deal with every major phone company over the phone when bringing customers overs. Trust me when i say they are all piss poor. On a daily basis i rip my hair out talking to these clowns. Telstra has hands down the best service. If you sign up a plan with Telstra for example, and they send you an $800 bill because you didn't know data was included in your cap you ring Telstra. You will get passed around a few times but you will be able to get a credit. Try that with 3. You will get passed on more times and they will say too bad. Trust me. I deal in the CBD see it every day.

Our prices on the other hand, we are the most expensive. If you rarely leave the city and dont rely on coverage you should probabably be somewhere else. But Telstras network is now the fastest and largest in the world by a fair margin. Telstras 3g covers all of victoria. Optus, Voda 3 will cut out in the outskirts of melbourne. 3's coverage and network is soo god damn sh*thouse its not even funny. The prices are cheaper but your calls will drop out frequently. Factor in the flagfalls from recalling all your drop outs and its more expensive then Telstra. Optus charge gst ontop of any price quotes. Get a big bill and its 10% more. Telstra include Gst.

In your case, I think it was probabably the corporate exec that was an idiot. I used to work corporate and thats where Telstra are better. Rates are alot lower as Telstra target big business rather then consumer.

There are circumstances where you might pay a bit more without benefiting with Telstra, but the service is better trust me on that i deal with these idiots daily. The only hilariously crap thing about Telstra is their mobile data prices. $89 for 1 gig and $119 for 3 gig. Optus and 3 ect offer $40ish for 5-6 gig. Joke. Sure we are faster ect but someone needs to be slapped in the face about that.

In summary yeah you will pay the most without a doubt. Telstra does have a better product though. Just make sure you buy all your telstra stuff from one person who is competent and take any problems to him to fix.

Seriously though, If any of you guys are not with bigpond though you are idiots. Its faster, more stable better supported and you can watch a full replay of any Hawk game in the last ten years for no added cost and no download limit. ANY HAWK GAME IN TEN YEARS. Thats a service in itself:thumbsu:

Any IT/Comms person worth anything avoids tel$tra like the plague. Sorry detox, but this idiot (and many others) will continue using better providers than tel$tra for all of his services and save money in the process.

Oh and the companies I mentioned have given myself and others I know far better support than tel$tra. Shop around for a better deal people, you'd be suprised (I want to help my fellow Hawkers).

I will admit the football being online is a plus, but it still does not make up for piss poor service/products (see AFL website for example ;)).

I also know a few tel$tra techs/contractors and their opinion of tel$tra is lower than mine.

Hey detox,

I was wondering if you could speak to the peeps at telstra and tell them the footy tv site needs to be better on the weekends i can never log on properley until tuesday to watch match replays

Also about 7 years ago i ran up a 1200 dollar bill on my mobile 700 was a disconnection fee and because I was so pissed they wouldnt let me pay the original fee of 500 i never payed. Any way to pay a reduced amount back.

I am your man for all things contraband pm me
