I was going to, but being a backup ruckman he probably hasnt had as much oppurtunity as everyone else.

Travis might be a better player in the short term but given he cost the Lions a first rounder, and isn't exactly a spring chicken, I'm going to have to be biased and pick Richard Hadley. He took a few games to develop his match fitness but now that he's got that back he's proving to everyone just why the Lions rated him so highly. Was fantastics today against the Pies. Hard and tough, good ball use with reasonable pace he's certainly a great addition to our midfield.

Ben Hudson easily...he has given the doggies a dominance around the ruck and around the ground which is something they haven't had since Darcy had his stand-out season in the early '00s.

Personally I love Brad Symes, don't know why Port got rid of him, he is young, can run, has good disposal and most of all knows where to get it, was BOG for mine on the Adelaide side today.

McMahon has shown in the last two weeks why we gave Pick 19 for him, he has class written all over him.

Hudson has been quite good, and probably one of the reasons the Bulldogs are up.

Mattner has also been very good off the HBF for Sydney, fit in very well.

Any of those are my picks.

BTW Morton will be a good pick up for us, might not show alot this year(Even though he kicked 2 goals 3 behinds today), he will certainly be worth more than Pick 35.

Pound for pound, it has to be Hadley for pick 52.

10 tackles last week shows how tough he is for a player who has had knee troubles and could be forgiven for not going in hard.

He was terrific today and didn't waste one touch.

I think you should have added Pfeiffer to the poll who goes in hard and doesn't whinge when he cops a hit.

Can play, but needs to improve his kicking.

Pick two in the PSD. :thumbsu:

Hadley and Pfeiffer have been outstanding pick-ups by the Blues and cost virtually nothing. The Blues weren't going to use there 50+ draft pick anyway, and we got Pfeiffer with PSD pick #2, thanks to Greg Miller's incompetence. An excellent outcome. :)

Hadley? are you kidding me Carlscum fans?

Hadley is an absolute hack!

Hudson and Welsh have been and will continue to be excellent for the Dogs. Johnstone has bolstered the Lions' midfield nicely.

Out of those three but still early days.

They've all been pretty good - at least none of them appear to be flops at this stage. Very hard to tell who's been the best.

i would say TJ as he has absolutely bolstered the lions midfield.. hudson is a very good pick-up for the dogs. Schneider was a steal at pick 90 though :)

There was a reason why he had to leave to get a game.

A 2004 Hadley would have been a great pick up.

Not enough room for Dew? Surely the limited occasions he's played this season have warranted a spot on this thread, especially when you consider that Gardiner was handed to the saints in the previous years PSD.... Stewie Dew's first game for the hawks was a bloody beauty. He'll be a sensational pick up when he's back in action. Looks a champ, even with those extra kg's he's got on board still.

It was actually Schneider and Dempster for pick #26

Hudson to Bulldogs. A trade that may win them a flag.

Then Symes. He is the player we needed to replace Mattner and has 8 years of good footy in front of him. There is improvement in him each week as he gets used to being a Crow.

Dew only played 2 games before smashing his hammy.

Can hardly add him to the list of best non-Judd pickups.

What's wrong with Hadley? His last two games have been terrific.

That said, I don't think he's the best pickup. He's still pretty handy though.

I like Symes, but he did go for a half decent pick.

I must admit that the Dogs and Saints did do well to top up, but as a result are just delaying the enevitable slump to the bottom for pick, so it will probably hurt them more in the long run.

Mattner for mine. He's added some real hardness and attacking to the Swans outfit at a time when they looked like they were falling away a bit in this area.

Travis Johnstone has also been very good for the Lions,

Combining price + effectiveness, Scott Welsh by a mile. He's been huge for the Doggies so far.

Schneider was a hell of a pickup too, considering how well known he is, that he's still young and in his prime, and that he was had for below market value with a free premiership player (Dempster) thrown in.

However, guys like Wood, Meesen, Moran, Pfeiffer, Morton and Symes are all still young - All could significantly improve and change the result of this thread.

They have all been encouraging for their respective sides.

From a Carlton perspective, I am absolutely rapt with Hadley and I'm sure that I'm not alone. Has played very well this season and is a very valuable addition to our midfield as a ball extractor. Provides a tough body for the contests and gets the ball out to our runners. He's a huge reason why we have improved in clearances. Has very good disposal too.

Pfeiffer has also been impressive as a youngster. Not the best disposal but one can't question his committment to the ball. Looks to be a player.

Hadley was solid on the weekend without being great and that is the best he has played so far.

For mine it has to be Welsh who offers an instant solution to a problem the Bulldogs have had for a while.
Johnstone might turn out to be a good pick up too.

Judd would top this list based purely on the extra memberships he has created at Carlton this year.

17 Apr 2008, 15:13
hypewise, absolutely . . . but hype doesn't get you premierships.

Matt72
17 Apr 2008, 15:17
Hype is something created by the media that others have no control over.
What Judd has brought to Carlton is excitement. Excitement that the best player (debateable) going around would choose Carlton over every other club. He has brought a little bit of respect to a faltering club. That shit is priceless. No it doesnt translate to premierships but there is no one factor or one player that does translate to premierships.
