View Full Version : Round 5 vs. Essendon @ Telstra Dome - Friday Night

Saints 2-2
Essendon 2-2
Injuries have hit them with Lloyd doubtful and Lucas + McVeigh def. out along with quite a few others.
Essendon are our #1 bogey side and we always seem to play shit and they seem to lift when ever we play them..
Fair to say we have to win here.

I think we'll win. But it will be a struggle.
Bit worried about their extremely fast mids. But their crappy run with injuries may assist us with them having to bring in kids that are not quite ready yet.
No lucas and no lloyd, we should get the job done.
Just a couple of things i would like to see:
- Basic skills down pat.
- Goals from the midfield.
- Moving the ball fast so we have none of this 3 vs roo crap.
- Them to realize that there is 4 quarters in a game of footy, not 1.:thumbsu:

we wont really be bringing any new kids into our side this week
i would expect welsh to come in for mcveigh as he seems to have finally overcame his injury. and monfries in for lonergan, Mcveigh will be a massive loss but welsh will probably be a huge inclusion as he will be another good hitup forward, which right now we need.
I think the main reason we have been good in the past against st kilda is because our backline matches up with your forward line pretty well.
your forward line troubles most sides with your talls gehrig, kosi and reiwoldt but i think we can match that with ryder fletcher and micheal. should be a close game, i will be there cheering on the red and black.
we should find out this evening whether lloyd will be in or out. will be a big inclusion if he can pull up

Anyone know how the following players have pulled up: Harvey, Gehrig, Schneider, Fisher and Goddard. On the Sunday Footy Show, Dr Peter Larkins said they all had niggles

I don't think it's going to be the walk in the park you expect, even without Lloyd... we put in a good performance considering our circumstances against the Bulldogs, we just had no bench to work with in the end and it cost us...
The bookies obviously agree with you though - St. Kilda ($1.35), Essendon ($2.95) - Saints way too short for mine for two teams at 2-2...

Far and away our biggest match of the season to date.
It was disappointing to lose to Geelong in the manner we did, particularly when we were so dominant in the clearances. Unfortunately the skill level was poor and we were given a lesson in how to take your chances when they appear.
Both teams are 2-2 and those losses have come against Geelong and the Bulldogs. They've transformed into a running side which brought us unstuck against the Dogs so it's something that we will have to plan for during the week.
I don't think it will get any easier for Fraser with Michael as his likely opponent and you'd imagine Fletcher will get one of Roo or Kosi. That may mean Patty Ryder will get the other. If the midfield can be as dominant as they were on Saturday our forward line will get plenty of opportunities throughout the game. We just have to start converting our opportunities. It's been our achilles heel all season. It sounds like Lloyd is a big chance to return and I've got no hesitation in putting Max on him, though we've also got Maguire and Fisher as the other options.

i would say Port Adelaide as our #1 Bogey side. We have been beaten by 2/3 unbeaten teams thus far (WB,GEE). If we lose to Essendon then we can officially call it a crisis.

sam fisher would be a massive out. very underrated by many scribes. sounds like its just a hamstring strain - surely he could use a one week rest:)

lol, I bet the medical staff will be doing everything they can to ensure he'll be alright for the game. Massive game for both teams and really looking forward to it. As long as we give a good account of ourselves this weekend, that's really all I can ask.
The season is not over for either team by a long shot and this game could see a remarkable turnaround for the winner. :thumbsu:

So what, now we're back to the half the team injured story again, S Fisher, Harvey, Gardiner, Schneider... What a joke... isn't this meant to have been eradicated now that Mission is there? Isn't he paid to structure things so such damage doesn't happen?
Sir Robert
15 Apr 2008, 11:44
X Clarke playing?
And Geebus Fish is a little susceptible (like so many others) to this type of injury. Given the height we have down back surely he can get rested a bit more... Else he's going to end up with Buckley hamstrings.

Hahaha spot on.
I'm confused about M Gardiner though.
I saw him at the Bulldogs game in his tracksuit. This suggested to me he did the warm ups and obviously wasn't right and yet he's going to miss another week. Very annoying.

We killed Geelong in the clearance stats and it didn't help us.
There's no point winning the ball around the ground if you're skill level is terrible and your forward line structure is ineffectual. That's where we have to improve.

Saints by 60 in a fairly played match.

Clarke was clobbered by an opponent, and Robert Harvey by a teammate. Impact injuries cannot be prevented. Hardly Misson's fault.
I would expect Fiora out for Armitage or Birss, and that's probably all.

I have a great regard for Ryder, but I think he isn't suited to Riewoldt's game, I think he would be a better match for Kosi - who is set to have a blinder Friday night.
So :thumbsu: - I hope he does get given the Riewoldt duties.

Mal is suited to playing on Kosi more so i would've thought. Fletcher will go to Gardiner and give Ryder some help on Riewoldt. Will be some great matchups.
