Taken from the AFL board...

Some aspects of the MCC do piss me off but seriously just buy a damn membership and come to the games. The issue of attendance is just ridiculous because personally i can't see why someone that barracks for the club wouldn't go to the games. We need some support.

The trouble is that young people are attracted to success and if the club is not only losing but being smashed (and considers a 30 point loss a good effort) it is almost impossible to attract new members to the club. It is therefore very important that the older members maintain their memberships during this period.
At least the AFL is offering its assistance and I think its very important that the club acknowledges the stark reality that it needs that assistance at the moment.
Whilst I'd love the club to play 5 games at Carrara because I live in Brisbane I don't think thats the answer because it has the potential to harm its current Melbourne based membership and the Gold Coast people are going to support the new Gold Coast Club and not Mebourne in any event so this would only prove to be a short term fix.

While 21% of MCC members barrack for Melbourne, the traditional home of the Demons has refused to commit to funding the club an annual $500,000 beyond 2008 with club chief executive Stephen Gough saying the MCC was monitoring Melbourne's negotiations with the AFL.
I hope their ____ing stand falls over. _____.

Thank f*ck that the AFL have basically told us we are in the shit and we need to dig ourselves out of it. Too many people at the club won't listen and if we can't listen to a frank assessment like this then we are in a fair bit of strife.
I have faith we can dig ourselves out of it but we need to suck it up and just DO IT. Stop goose stepping around the problems and deal with them!!

Like CBH, I'm glad the AFL have said this.
I had NFI why the club got rid of Steve Harris, I mean surely they could have at least waited until his contract ran out because that cost us 250K to pay him out.
The attempt we have made to advertise ourselves in our 150th year has been awful. FFS they didn't even start spruiking it unil this year! Carlton did a far better job of building momentum (Yes, Judd helped but they have a record membership IIRC) and they were worse than us last year.
This club may have issues on-field, but off-field we're just as bad if not worse.

Agree, MFC has spent more time and money worrying about this useless China move and not worried about its own backyard (Melbourne).
Time and money wasted on China coud of been better used to spruik the 150 year celebrations.

Just for arguments sake, do you think a move to the Telstra Dome would be beneficial for us? It would force the MCC members to financially commit to the club, rather than getting a piggy back ride every ____ing year.

i think we should go 2 telstra dome even if its 4 half or a quarter of our home games

I disagree. Moving some of our games would be disastrous. The MCC supporters would still be too stubborn to buy a membership. Plus, the team must be able to play there regularly enough to adjust (we've got a poor record there). It's gotta be all or nothing.

There would be too many MCC members that would say "____ them" and just not bother turning up to the games let alone supporting the club. Some people wouldn't understand the stubborness of MCC members towards the Telstra Dome.
This is the link to the discussion on the main board. Some interesting views from opposition supporters. And some shit ones too.

That would be signing our own death-warrant

Harris's idea of building our brand with the China wank fest which will delever absolutly bugger all EVER and Team Melbourne - "hey, lets form an alliance with a netball team that doesn't exist anymore" - shows that the man had no idea at all about anything apart from being an absolutly deplorable at relating to people. Good riddence to bad rubbish.

We really need to win this game. The problem is that a majority of people, don't want to rock up to a game, member or not, to see their team not even show up on the day.
We need to get a lot of people down there on sunday and hopefully cheer our boys on towards those 4 points!
