Got 4 tickets for the second Melbourne show up in the middle of the dress circle. $150 each. First show is sold out and there are only restricted view seats left for the second show.

Anyone else going? Pound-for-pound the best comedian in the world. August can't come soon enough!

I feel for you. Got my tix at 9am online. Went on ebay at 11am just out of curiosity and someone was selling tix 4 rows in front of me for $240 each. Maybe they've held back on releasing more tickets towards August.

You've never heard of Billy Connolly? Or Ross Noble?

Yes I have. First of all don't use Ross Noble in the same category as Billy Connolly. Billy Connolly is one of the greats. Ross Noble is funny but that is all.

What makes a comedian great is not just the ability to have the audience in stitches. The truly great comedians are smart. They tackle politics, social issues and they make us look at these things and within ourselves and question the way things are. I love Billy Connolly but he doesn't tackle the same sort of material as Chris Rock. Bill Hicks was a great comedian. He didn't have you laughing every 30 seconds like Ross Noble, but it's what he said and the way he got the message across that made him so great.

And notice that I said said pound-for-pound the best comedian. Chris Rock is not my favourite comedian. I get bigger laughs listening to Eugene Mirman and Patton Oswalt. The latter being I think the funniest comedian on the planet. He is hilarious, filthy, geeky and tackles some of the same issues as Chris Rock, he's just not as sharp as him.

If you haven't seen it, you should track down the documentary "Comedian (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0328962/)" about Jerry Seinfeld's return to the stage. It really opens your eyes as to the difference between great comedians and hack ones. It shows how much work goes into the jokes, how it takes so many performances to continually refine the words and inflections until it's perfect. There's scenes of Seinfeld hanging out with Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Jay Leno, Colin Quinn where they talk about the art and profession of comedy and you really understand the huge gap between the greats and the ordinary comedians.
