Norwood Vs. WWT at the Parade on Friday Night

In the twos Trent Hentshel shall continue his long return from injury this week hoping to play a whole game
And according to our resident Taylor Walker expert ;) the great man will be making his seniors debut!

South Vs. Sturt at Norlunga on Saturday ABC TV

In the reserves youngster Myke Cook should suit up for South with Sturt rookie Brodie Martin finding it impossible to penetrate the league team.
And to prove how great rising star winners are  Danyle Pearce will be playing league and will no doubt get bested by Andy Otten!

Port Vs. North at Alberton on Saturday

Greg Gallman and Tony Armstrong are lining up on the half back line in the 2s for North Adelaide
Ivan Maric much to the disappointment of this board will be lining up in the Ruck for the Maggies!

Glenelg Vs. West at Glenelg on Saturday

Fingers, toes and whatever else are crossed amongst Adelaide supporters this week hoping to see rookie Ed Curnow debut in the Glenelg 2s with hopefully Jimmy Sellar to maintain his spot in the A's

Will be there on Friday night, will try and get there early to see Trentshel!:thumbsu:

Its actually round 4.

Ill Be there also Friday night. Sucks for Woodville at the moment, losing Jacky. Passador should be back, maybe Cicca's as well.

Anyway I was going to do stats for any Crows players playing, but I am guessing half the Crows board will be there and will be taking stats anyway.

I am shattered Shirley isn't playing for the Eag's this week. Guttered.

Hopefully, Hentschel and some of the younger guys can break into their respective league sides soon because atm our fringe players (ie Shirley) are hardly facing any pressure for their spots.

I think Trent should stick in Ressies for about 4 weeks or so. This week give him near full game. Next week full game. Then Week after tell him to give it 100%. If he performs, then I am almost certain he will play League.

Schwarze, Trent + Passador. Deadly.

That was a quick recovery. Wasn't expecting him to be back in action for another 1-2 weeks.

We have a LOT of players due back from injury in the next 2 weeks. Once they return, the pressure to perform will be like the inside of a hyperbaric chamber.

Yeah its good to see a few guys working their way back into the SANFL. Hope Trent tears the Norwood reserves defence apart this evening and more importantly gets through the game without complaint. And of course the match of the day down at Noarlunga will, never thought id be saying that :p

He hit the post from inside the square with a left foot snap apparently, and the ball went straight up the other end for an Eagles goal. That said, anyone who bags him harshly after his FIRST league game would have to be very harsh.

Taylor Walker:

Walker was awesome on debut. :thumbsu: Got his first kick in league footy in the goalsquare after Vlatko won a free kick for being held. Walker picked up the crumbs and slotted it through for his first goal in league footy. His next goal came about 5 minutes later when he took a mark from about 50 out, was held up on the mark, then took off as his oppenent was caught napping and drilled it from about 40 out to cap off a fantastic goal. Two goals with his first two kicks, a nice start! His third kick was also a shot on goal, but this time he missed from about 40 out.

His leading is fantastic. I see he didn’t record great times in the 20 metre sprint but he looked very sharp out on the lead. He would’ve taken about 6 or so marks from strong leads. He managed to get a gap between his defender all the time which was really pleasing. He has exceptional hands and he didn’t drop a mark all night, even when going flat out on the lead. He would’ve taken about 10 marks and 3 or 4 were great one-grab marks under pressure. That’s another thing worth noting, he doesn’t fumble the ball out on the lead; he leads hard and takes a very strong grab.

His third goal came after taking another mark out on a lead. Kicked it from about 40 out and it went straight through the middle.

His fourth goal, well let’s just say my jaw is still on the ground. Took a mark about 55 out, right on the boundary line and he decided to play on and improve the angle. He wheeled around a few metres and let rip a beautiful, booming drop punt which curved magnificently through the middle. He was pumped, turned to the hill and gave a few fist pumps. That’s the most excited I’ve been for a goal for quite some time. To put it bluntly, it was freaking awesome! About 10 minutes later he had a chance for a 5th, when he was wrestling with his opponent for the loose ball in the goalsquare and he managed to get it, snapped on his left foot but it crashed into the post.

But let me tell you right now, we have a very special talent on our hands here. He looked completely at home on his debut and he could’ve easily finished with 7 as CC noted. To those who will worry about his kicking for goal, don’t, he has a beautiful leg and on 2 of his points he just missed, the other hit the post. The fourth behind was from about 60 out where he kicked it to the square and it bounced through for a point. The OOF was from about 55 out and he didn’t connect, liked the confidence to go back and take a shot though.

He has a real presence about him on the field. He’s very tall, reasonably well built and has all the attributes of a great key forward in the making. Once he builds up his fitness base and gets stronger and more experienced, he will be amazing. He did grow tired during the latter stages of the second term and the last. What a great debut though, left me feeling really excited. I heard his name mentioned quite a lot in many discussions, he was that impressive. Not only is he good in the air but he's great when the ball hits the deck. He dished off quite a few quick handballs, one to a running teammate in the last term which resulted in a goal, in the AFL it would've gone down as a goal assist. He has quick hands and set up quite a few scoring chances as a result. Wow what a talent.

Aaron Kite:

Only saw the last half of the reserves game and Kite didn’t have a huge impact. Not many possessions but his defensive work was impressive. Had a few strong tackles, one which was unbelievably called in the back when it was a perfectly executed tackle and it was holding the ball to everyone else at Coopers Stadium. He went up for a mark in the last quarter, failed to hang on and was then taken around the neck. He wasn’t paid a free kick and when he got up he was limping. He looked to have hurt his knee and the trainer came to his aid but he seemed to walk it off and in a minute or two he was getting involved once again. To me it looked as though he was running at about three quarter speed which is understandable. He went up for a few grabs but didn’t quite hold on. His defensive work was once again pleasing as was his appearances at the huddles for the league game. Good to see. :)

Cheers Drummond, :thumbsu:

This bloke definitely sounds like a player. Whilst I hate to compare young players, when in comparison to Sellar, I think we are seeing the benefits of a bloke who, correct me if I'm wrong, grew up playing key position, he knows when to lead, how to lead, where to lead, something that is hard to teach, IMO just comes with experience. Where Walker came for a KPF background, I believe Sellar's come from a ruckmans background and is still learning his craft, he has all the tools, just requires a little patience while he gains experience in this role.

The other thing I like about Walker, is that he has a bit of an attitude, he has confidence in his ability, something which a good KPF will always have. You look at the likes of Carey, Modra, Brown, Jarman, Fevola and I'm sure Gary Ablett Snr etc. would have been similar, just too young to remember, they all had/have the belief that if you give them the ball, they will win the game and if you don't give him the ball, I'm sure he'd blow his top, like the above would. Whilst I may be off the mark, everything I've see about the kid suggests that this is the way he plays. He also by the sounds has the ability to kick 3 goals, with ease on a quiet day, ahhh, very excited.:)

First up tonight down at Norwood Oval was Aaron Kite for the Redlegs and Trent Hentschel for the Eagles in the reserves.

During the first quarter, Kite was positioned at around half back, although at times was pushing up the ground. At one point he snuck down to the forward line, gathered the ball off the ground, had a snap shot at goal, but missed. He had another scoring shot shortly after, marking the ball on the 50 and then hesitating, but he ended having a rushed shot and he missed again.

Trent started off really well, he was positioned at half forward. His first goal was really good. He gathered it off the ground in the pocket, took a couple of steps and had a snap shot. He looked pretty fast too which was pleasing to see. He then followed up again with a similar goal. After his second goal he was feeling his knee a little, the 'injured' one. He wasn't limping or anything but came off.

In the second term, Trent started off the ground and on the bike. He didn't last there long before jogging a little on the boundary line and then standing up for a few mins. When he came on the ground, after about 10 mins, he went to half forward. Read the ball nicely and took a mark behind two Norwood players. Steadied for the set shot on a slight angle, reasonable distance, but the ball didn't make it to the goal line. Later on in the term he dribbled the ball along the ground form a tight angle, but missed. He then marked in a similar position as before, looked a little more comfortable in the kick and goaled.

For the second half of the game, Trent spent about 5 minutes on in the third term before coming off and heading to the rooms. He took no further part in the game. Kite was pretty good after coming back from injury. Kept to his opponent well and looked alright when he came up the ground.

I think with Trent nothing too serious has happened. He was walking around fine and everything, maybe just felt something in his knee he's not used to after kicking those two snap goals. So, fingers crossed!

Hentschel: 7 kicks, 3 marks, 4 goals, 1 behind.
Kite: 6 kicks, 5 handballs, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 2 behinds.

On the league game, well Drummond's summed up Walker's performance very well. What stood out for me was the passion he displayed, like his goal celebrations, but he also got fired up after a team mater kicked a great goal. You can tell he really wants to be out there playing footy :thumbsu:

Walker: 9 kicks, 2 handballs, 6 marks, 4 goals, 4 behinds.

Walker was exceptional tonight. Very impressive. He leads well and hits the ball with a good leap at full pace and has great hands. Looks like he has the tools to play wherever he might be needed in the forward line including Full Forward. As kingscrow said, what was a very encouraging sign was that the Eagles had McKenzie on him and he still managed to contribute well. McKenzie being one of the best players in the SANFL for those that don't know.

I wish the Crows picked Salter in the main draft last year.

yes, what i did notice is he was VERY VERY conscious of his man, and very tight on him.

Jake Pavlich for most of the game I think.

One thing I think he could do better is run off his man a little more, and provide more attacking rebound. His skills are very good.

Who is to say he won't play AFL footy this year? If he produces that form all the time the club WILL pick him, you can bet on it.

Having said that, you always feel it's the KPPs you need to refrain from talking up too much; I'm trying to keep a lid on it for a little while longer (if I can), but gee whiz we are continuing to stockpile some serious talent.

I just have some questions for the lads who went to the game:

1) Has he grown? What sort of size/build are we looking at here

2) Can you compare the way he plays to a current AFL forward? I ask because I'm wondering how his game would fit into the Crows side.

GO LITTLE JARRHAN TOMORROW!!!

That's what he was doing in the trial matches and with great success so I'm sure in a few weeks you'll see him start to play a more attacking role. He is very quick and I'd like to see him use his pace a little more, and yes, his skills are very good. I'd like to see him use his size a little more though as he's often out-bodied but that should improve with time. Good prospect though as there is plenty of upside, he'll take a few years but there's something to work with. When he holds onto his marks, makes better use of his body and starts using his speed to perfection, he will be quite the player. :thumbsu:

I just have some questions for the lads who went to the game:

1) Has he grown? What sort of size/build are we looking at here

2) Can you compare the way he plays to a current AFL forward? I ask because I'm wondering how his game would fit into the Crows side.

1. He's very tall, at least 192cm. Could be more as I wasn't paying much attention to his height in comparison to others at 3/4 time. His build is pretty impressive for a 17 year-old.

2. Hard to say, and without putting much thought into it, perhaps Daniel Bradshaw? Strong in the air and leads very well.

Cheers Drummond, Great read on Walker :) :thumbsu:

we need to give the lad time, however we should not put any limits on Walker, however, weight of performances at sanfl level will stand him in good stead, maybe his opportunity may come earlier than expected (2nd half of the year)

Forward line future looks bright, Jacky and Tippett playing today, Walker and Sellar developing in the sanfl :thumbsu:

That's what he was doing in the trial matches and with great success so I'm sure in a few weeks you'll see him start to play a more attacking role. He is very quick and I'd like to see him use his pace a little more, and yes, his skills are very good. Bradshaw is an interesting comparison! From the very little I have seen of Walker, he is just that great lead, mark and thumping kick type of forward. He sort of reminds me a bit of Fevola (without the dumbness)

For those worried about his kicking for goal from what I saw of him last year playing in the TAC Cup and the Division 2 U/18 Nationals that is actually a strength of his game. He is a beautiful kick of the pill, so don't worry about that!

Great to hear Taylor had such a great debut. He sounds very promising. All good signs so far.

Also impressed by Kite so far. For a guy that many were surprised actually got drafted and seems to be a bit of a project player, he seems to be working hard and grabbing his oppurtunity with both hands. Nice to also have another developing tall defender in the wings.

Also always good to hear about Rowdy's comeback. Hopefully his injury isn't too bad.

Thanks guys for the great reports.

Taylor Walker:

His leading is fantastic. I see he didn’t record great times in the 20 metre sprint but he looked very sharp out on the lead. He would’ve taken about 6 or so marks from strong leads. He managed to get a gap between his defender all the time which was really pleasing. He has exceptional hands and he didn’t drop a mark all night, even when going flat out on the lead. He would’ve taken about 10 marks and 3 or 4 were great one-grab marks under pressure. That’s another thing worth noting, he doesn’t fumble the ball out on the lead; he leads hard and takes a very strong grab.

That's an attribute that is necessary for any player to be a great forward. The timing of the lead is everything and all the great forwards have it and make the game look easy by comparison to those that naturally don't have it.

Looks like our friend Taylor Walker has this necessary ingredient. His future looks ultra bright. :thumbsu::)

Good report overall Drummond - many thanks. :thumbsu:

Thanks for the reports. Good to hear Walker having a great debut. He definately looks like a player of the future. Hentschel sounds like he is playing some good footy already and hopefully his hamstring injury isnt too bad and we can see him playing again next week.

Bahhh. The only reason it is a good report from Drummond is because Taylor plays for Norwood.

Only kidding Drummond.:):)

Thanks for the reports guys, very exciting news about the Texas Ranger! I hope he can do it consistently for a while and really push for selection. Just hope Sellar can produce a similar encouraging performance.
I will be going for my Bloods but going for Sellar more.
Also disappointed we didnt draft Salter, very impressive.

Fevola would be a much better comparison than Bradshaw.

He is not so much a pack mark, but just has a brilliant leading mind.

I was watching him trying to get a lead happening, and he would double bag and just make room to lead out of nothing, get clear by a few metres, and he would be rewarded for it.

He is a good kick, it's just a lot of his points were from Buddy Franklin range.

As I said, on a normal Taylor Walker goal kicking night, he would have had 7, but his kicking...well just just missed a few.

Wow
He is a goal-kicking MACHINE.
Last year researching most of Walker's games I've noticed he hardly ever has a bad game, just keeps nailing goals.

He'll debut this year, don't care about his age if he keeps doing what he does the Adelaide commitee will have no option but to select him.

Now I understand why Rendell and others said Walker was in the top bracket of players his age in Australia.
Don't get selected for AA U/18 by playing only 3 games if your no good!

:thumbsu: Superstar on our hands, I can smell it.

Some opinions from Norwood supporters on Walker.

and Taylor Walker were all very good - Walker did some very good things which natural footballers are prone to doing

Walker will be a star at a higher grade than this

Walker is just one of those naturally gifted footballers and looked a class above the others.

Taylor Walker is something special, and it’s not hard to see why the Crows were so delighted to nab him under the NSW Scholarship program. Kicked 4.4 and could’ve finished with 7. Really strong out on the lead and has beautiful foot skills. His fourth goal in the third term was an absolute ripper. 50 out, tight on the boundary line, he wheeled around and drilled it which got the crowd, and Walker himself, very excited! Only 17 years of age, that’s what’s scary. I can’t imagine how good he’ll be when he’s fitter, stronger and has more experience. He will be one heck of a player and it’s great having him at the NFC. Great debut Taylor.

Enjoy Walker while we can, once he becomes eligible, we'll likely lose him to higher honors and rightfully so.

And Kite.

I saw Aaron Kite, who will be something special as well, a great mark and long kick, I see him as a fast tall wingman at Norwood he did the same as Trotter ,got it, kicked it long to position and we looked good, or at least dangerous.

Walker is going to be a gun. I was going for the Eag's, but I was also going for Walker haha.

Probably the best sign that he is a star, is that he had McKenzie on him, Woodvilles best defender and he still made space and managed to get the ball. Real good signs. Was very happy.

Mckenzie is one of the best in the league. Great effort from Walker if he was playing on McKenzie

The South Adelaide bubble has been burst..... and how !!

Now I didnt see the game so I cant really comment but Otten got in the best with 20 touches and 3 marks so the Sunday Mail says, and who was Souths best ?? You guessed it, Mr J Torney. My old man watched the game and said if Torney wasnt there we would have (and shouldve anyway) won by 20 goals.

Geez, do we reckon anyone would notice if we swapped him with Shirley? Could have used him in our 2 losses on a Johnson and maybe a Williams or something, shame that he was delisted, but long term, it was probably the right way for the club to go.

BTW anyone else have reports on how some of our other players went, eg. Sellar, Maric.

Sellar takes a strong grab on the lead and goals from 45 out.

May be his second goal, the commentators made it sound like he'd already kicked one, but didn't actually confirm it. (I missed the first 15-20 minutes).

Will confirm soon.

One of the flukiest wins I've ever seen. We looked absolute crap all day but luckily Hargs couldn't kick straight. He should have nailed the winner with a few minutes to go. I think we were 15 points down at one stage in the last quarter but completely arsed a win. Bloody great to do that against the feral scum on their own shit heap.
