When's the last time we've had 4 blokes make their debut for the club in the first 4 rounds of the season?

Because the form of Tippett, Symes and Mackay has been beyond expectations IMHO and it'll be great to see Jacky added to that list with blokes like Otten and Dangerfield biting at the teams ankles :)

The only similar recent scenario I can think of is 2003 where Carey, Burns and Torney all made their debuts in Round 1 or 2, however that was a slightly different situation:D

Can this be a point to those who whine about the conservatisim of the Adelaide selection panel? (looks at FD88)

Symes wasn't exactly making his AFL debut either - he had already played 20 games for our poor cousins.

Still, nice to see 3 players making their AFL debuts within the first 5 rounds.

Great point!

I thought about this a bit once the team was named. We are in round 5 and we have already blooded 3 AFL debutants and not to mention all the other young players that we have in the team who have 30 AFL games or less next to their name.

Re Symes, he is still very much an inexperienced AFL player. I think this year we are consistently playing something like 8 players in our side each week that have started the year with 30 AFL games or less experience.

Gets!

Hopefully by the end of this round we would have debuted 3 new AFC players and be sitting at 3 and 2.

Definitely one of the most inexperienced teams we've fielded in years.

Those to have played this year, with < 30 AFL games to their credit:

Kurt Tippett (debuted R1)
David Mackay (debuted R1)
Jarrhan Jacky (debut R5)
Bryce Campbell
Richard Douglas
Bernie Vince
Jonathon Griffin
Luke Jericho
Brad Symes
Jason Porplyzia (R4 vs Hawthorn was his 30th)

** Ivan Maric & Brad Moran also played during the MMC campaign.

7 of those have played all 4 games this year. Campbell, Jericho & Jacky one each.

Can't remember the last time we had such an inexperienced lineup. Maybe our most inexperienced lineup since 1991?

Another great point to note is that our top 3 draft picks from last years draft were all pushing for selection this week and whilst injuries have played a factor, its great that all 3 were pushing and not just the one or 2. What's also good is that, before injury 2 of our other draftees, Kite and Walker, were showing good form for Norwood, which says that Rendell might have some idea when it comes to recruiting. It must also be noted that the other 2 were injured I think for most of the preseason.

Its also good to see that 4 of our 5 from the year before have debuted, 2 (Tippet and Gill) are pretty much 1st choice, with Mackay also having a claim to that and as for Sellar, the only one not to debut, well really, was probably always take a while to develop, just requires a little more patience than the others.

Future looks good.

Under Blighty, we used to debut 4 at once. :D

1997 round 1 - debuts to Aaron Keating, Chad Rintoul, Simon Goodwin and Brent Williams, plus noobies Kane Johnson (game 3), Peter Vardy (game 8), and club debuts to Barry Standfield and Brett James. Tim Cook debuted in Round 2, Tom Gilligan in Round 3, Trent Ormond-Allan played his 1st AFC game (and 8th overall) in round 2.

1998 round 1 - debuts to Lance Picioane and Nathan Bassett, club debuts to James Thiessen (after 7 games and 4 years out of the AFL) and Mark Stevens (after 19 games with North). Andrew Eccles debuted in round 2.

1999 round 1 - debuts to David Gallagher, Lucas Herbert and Brett Burton. Brodie Atkinson played his 3rd game (and first in 5 years) in Round 1 also. Darryl Wintle and Bryan Beinke debuted in Round 2, and Matthew Golding was off the rookie list and in by Round 5.

Other than Burton, that tells us why 1999 was such a shocking year. Some grade A duds in that list:(

Yeah Blighty wasnt scared to try something whether it was new tactics or new players. Blight was one of those coaches that would never die not knowing. The funniest thing I ever witnessed from Blight was against St Kilda when when our ruckstocks were depleated and he had Ormond-Allen in the ruck basically cannoning into Spider to tire him and had our players deliberately roving to Spider's ruck work.

Blight is someone that comes across as slightly eccentric and someone that really thinks outside the square which I think is why he made such a great coach.
