View Full Version : The Jarrhan Jacky Gametime Sweep

Vader
18 Apr 2008, 09:39
As you all know, Jacky is making his debut this week against the Dockers. We also know that Neil Craig has a penchant for easing the kids into the side as slowly as possible.

So, how about we run a sweep - the object being to guess how many minutes of gametime Jacky actually spends on the field? No prizes, just the honour of knowing that you read Craig's mind better than any of the other BF affictionados.

I'll kick it off, taking 18 minutes.

Zero minutes - the Bryce Campbell special.

Be fair, Campbell did get 8 minutes on the ground! Lowest figure I can recall under Neil Craig (not affected by injury) is 7 minutes for Chris Knights on debut.

Haha, yeah, that was pretty pointless, he actually roved a pack up forward, giving off a handball for a goal in that time, don't know how much more you could expect of the kid. Also loved in '05 when Doughty and Reilly would only get 5-6 possesions each game because of seriously limited game time, then in '06, given more time they both started pulling in 20+ possession games.

Started in minutes, now seems to have morphed into a bit of both given that % is what's reported in the ragvertiser. Guess we'll have to do the conversion once we know how long the game runs for.

For those of us who would rather stab ourselves in the eye with a pen than watch the Footy Show what happened?

Did the usual announcement of the crows team (just before midnight ), said Jacky has come into the squad for his 1st game. Sam (who else) was trying to make fun of his name Jacky, kept on asking where is he from? As in what nationality/race is Jacky? I thought he was heading down the racist route but then realised he was implying it was a girl's name. Cause they kept telling him WA, Broome, Subiaco FC etc. and it went on and on, until they read his BIO.

After all that, another failed joke basically.

Baptism of fire. Throw kids in the deep end and let them learn. If they make mistakes and struggle a little, good. More learning material.

If i was coaching ;):p Bring him as soon as the first goal is kicked/inital tempo eases. Give him pretty much all the first half followed by a bit of a break in the third. Throw him on the wing mid-late third and let him try to find the ball in space. When he gets it, run and use his pace. Last 1/4 back forward.

Know that we can win this game from very little contribution from him but still keep him on the park. Tell the group to carry him through his first hit out.

Let him go in with zero expecation on his shoulders and tell him 'do what he does best'. Tell him to really focus on tackles, forward line pressure, chasing and making lots of movment even it seems nonsensical (spell check??) at times. Keep presenting with hard leads and circle back under burton and tippet. Be a terrier. A goal or two is a bonus.

He can play alright, I think most of the discussion here is whether it might be a bit too early for him to step up. IMO he probbly isnt ready, but in saying that I still think he can do a reasonable job tomorrow if given time.

The Eagles. Been playing off a HFF and not doing anything really spectacular as yet but he is the player we have been crying out for years. Someone with pace and very good crumbing ability.

I cried myself to sleep about the way he handled Reilly. The great man was in my DT and yet he came on, got 7 possessions in 10 minutes, and would sit down for the next 45 minutes. :thumbsu:

Anyway, I'll say Jacky gets 34 minutes.

It depends heavily on whether he has an immediate impact. If he starts with a quick goal or two I'm sure he will be persisted with, perhaps for as much as 65-70% of the game. If I were a betting man though, I'd go for something like 35-40% gametime.

Here's the list... Divided into those who tipped by minutes and those who tipped by percentages. Games generally go for around 120 minutes (+/- 5), so to convert from percentages to minutes just multiply by 1.2. We'll do it a little more accurately when we know exactly how long the match does last.
