View Full Version : Anyone Else Find It Weird?
That Neil Craig and the club this week are finding inspiration from a player (Cyril Rioli Jnr) we could have drafted only 6 months ago?
Does that say something about our recruiting?

It's not all about playing ability. They want to know that a player will be positive about being with and willing to stay with the club. I don't find it stange at all. Cyril was hyped up a lot and everyone knew he would be a gem.

Bit harsh on the club
My understanding Dangerfield was always going to be select before Cyril, however Cyril was the clubs initial #1 target for a small forward until he was interviewed, it was clear Adelaide was not a prefered option for the lad, so why recruit someone that does not want to be here, performance is all about attitude
We also need to be midful that we do not rate peoples careers on a handful of games, especially small forwards
Davey from Melb has dropprd off the face of the earth, Wells and Tambling are up and down, I remember Adrian McAdam was a superstar early in his career than went missing and the list goes on Sampri
the palyer I believe we missed was Davey that is playing for the Bombers, he was right under our noses in the sanfl, his speed, goal sense and pressure is outstanding

On the interview issue, I am pretty sure that club was ridiculed for overlooking Nick Stevens in favour of Lance Picione (sp??) just because Stevens wasn't interested in leaving Melbourne and even said I will serve my first two years I will be back in Melbourne to our interview committee. Since then, we have made a promise that we picks up the player regardless. Sometimes whats said in interview and what happens afterwards are two different things. I remember Reilly literally in tears on the draft day when we picked him up and he is still here and has no plans of leaving. I also remember Fergus Watts glowing with happiness and proclaiming that he is a one club player and he is here for the long haul but left the club after serving his rookie contract! You can't read too much into these interviews because no one knows how the kids will react once they are actually in the city and at the club regularly.
As for Dawey, I am pretty sure we had him pencilled in for our 2nd round draft pick (32) but the Bombers picked him up just before us and we ended up with Kurt Tippett who we were going to take with our first pick (14) but since Sellar slipped all the way down, we had to take him. Luckily Kurt was still there at 32.
