17-7 to the Lions. I'm not whinging about that, merely asking if you blokes and blokesses thought it was warranted.

What I would like to protest is that free given against Lewis in the last quarter where he tried to tap it along the boundary line with a Lion rushing at him, only to see it trickle out. Lewis hauls himself back to his feet ruefully, obviously disappointed that his effort went to waste. Then the ump rushes in and gives deliberate OOB, whereby the jaws of both Lewis and the nearby Bateman drop, along with thousands of watching Hawk supporters.

Umpires really don't like Lewis. How bout that one where he was pinged after being tackled high by Bradshaw?

Even though Brisbane had 10 more free kicks, i'm still glad that there was only 24 paid for the night. Thats what made the game so great, the umpires were not blowing the whistle every 5 seconds.

I thought it was well umpired despite those Lewis calls.

Great game.

Yep. There were two howlers, both against Lewis. But other than that it was a well umpired match.

Any game you don't notice the umpires (too much) is a good game.

Every team has a few players that are on the wrong side of the umps.

Nawt cool.

I took issue with a few from #18 early in our forwardline, and then the two Lewis ones mentioned above.

Without looking, I'm guessing that 18 is Chamberlain? I heard his name on the broadcast, so presume it was him.

However it was probably the best (and fairest) umpiring I've seen all year.

Only saw the last quarter, and then not all of it, but there certainly weren't any of the howlers that I've become accustomed to seeing.

The one against Campbell in the centre square was a bit harsh, but was by no means a terrible decision.

Did the ump say he pinged him because he got too high ? [pardon the pun]
and it wasn't Ray who paid that one

I didn't even realise it was 17-7. Didn't seem like we got a raw deal. Unlike last weeks umpiring which blatantly favoured the crows.

The umpire said "Unrealistic jump"

How can a jump by unrealistic? Unless he means he used someone?

Unrealistic ambition maybe.

Yeah they'll pay that sometimes if they jump miles early to get on top of the other ruckman but don't get anywhere near the ball.

Happy to see a low free kick count, I was a bit worried the game was going to be over-whistled when I saw who the umpires were.

As a Lions fan I can say that the "Unrealistic Jump" decision and that Deliberate OOB decision, we're extraordinarily baffling - obviously made by people who have no idea the way the game should be played and where it should be heading.

There were a few strange decisions, including those mentioned, but Lions didn't get it all their own way.

I actually thought the umpiring was terrific because the bad ones stood out. They really put away the whistle and for the most part only paid the obvious ones, with not many of the contentious HTB or in the back decisions where players buckle at the knees.

I'd be pretty happy if all our games were officiated to the same standard.

What gets me in the ruck contests (and didn't see it except for the above 'unrealistic') is when one bloke jumps, the other doesn't, and instead runs under him.

Sometimes paid to the man in the air (tunneling I guess), sometimes paid to the man on the ground (high contact/unrealistic leap) - yet neither would occur if both rucks went for the ball. When the whistle blows in a ruck contest, it's often a suprise to all when the umpire decides who gets the kick.

agreed simon!

there's times in matches when players from both sides are wondering which way the umpire will point. All in all, i thought last nights game was well officiated.

I thought it was ok. Some silly decisions were made like always but the Lewis decision was just pathetic, they really dislike him.
