View Full Version : Should Woosha spend time coaching at ground level?

We've all seen Sheedy do it, Leigh Matthews does it and Paul Roos is doing it most games this year.

Should Woosha come down and coach face to face with his players coming on and off the bench? I think why not. Its been openly said our confidence is down, we have a swag of players with less than 10 games playing and Woosha's strength as a coach is his personality not the mind blowing tactical moves.

Woosha is a players coach who inspires his charges and lifts their confidence, instead of doing this for 5 minutes between quarters and 20 min over half time lets see him in the trenches with the boys.

Oh, and another thing, the only possibly problem with this is if say Barry Hall came off last week and Woosha was waiting for him:D. I'm guessing the stare alone would have done the trick!

Why not hey.

Then have the other coaches up in the box for any tactical stuff (that Woosh has been critised for anyway) and they can radio it down to him.

I agree - It would give the guys an extra gear if they were being spoken one on one with Woosh as they were about to head out on the ground.

Good Idea :thumbsu:

WE might think its a great idea. If only Woosha used BF so he could see this stuff lol.

It's a fad that will pass

Roos only does it to help transition Longmire in. Sheedy did it as a gimmick and I don't recall Matthews doing it.

If you've ever sat right behind the bench (I did in the SF v Coll last year) you can't see well at all

Well i mentioned this a couple of weeks ago. He seems to get the guys firing every other time they talk to him during the breaks, it would be good.

Dunno who I would leave in charge in the box though. I would have thought Suma was much of a tactician.

It's worth a shot, I don't see how it could do any harm and he can always go back up to the box.

I'm listening to 3AW's prematch, they reckon get your senior assistant at ground level and keep your coach in the box. I think this would be good because Suma is our next man down from Woosh, and why not give it a go!

Maybe its a coaching tactic that evolves a tad.

Williams at 3qrt time often takes his players across to the member wing to fire them up.

Woosha is not that style of coach but I'd suggest him coaching at ground level at the start of the second and third quarters would be very benefical.

First quarter, sit up top, get a feel for the game, see first hand the matchups. We already have tactical plans in place. Don't we? :o

Forward set up A, B, C

Key matchups A, B, C

Rotations etc.

Come the final quarter he makes a call, stay down or coach back in the box.

I just think Woosha giving the young and old players a slap on the arse and a word in their ear coming on and off the bench could get another 5 - 10% out of our team...........and right now we need something to spark the side up, get their confidence up.
