View Full Version : Awful last term

What happened? Shocking last term, we should have put the Dees to the sword and won by over 50. We need to start running games out, we haven't won a final term this year apparantly.

Piss poor. A game we had the chance to run on with and score a big win we look like we have just stopped. Undone a lot of the good early work.

It was a bit dissapointing to see, don't want them to get into bad habits for the future. Still, not worth worrying over when we should be enjoying our second win in a row!

Yes it was rubbish...We still have a ways to go..I was disappointed with how Simmo, Carrazzo, Bentick and Setanta played in the last. I mean they still represent the things that are wrong with the team, and those guys should be going the distance to build depth..

Also Scotland looked ordinary despite getting lots of the ball, he just never thinks and just kicks it like a lunatic.

Like is said before, crap thread...

You still need to win these games and i thought we did it well...Stop all the negativety or go support someone else..

Game was won at 3qtr time...outscored by two goals in the last...big deal.

We still won by 5 and a 1/2 goals FFS...

Would you rather we get flogged like the past five years...Enjoy it

Simmo and Carrazzo are also the players that gives up first when they knew we are not gonna win at a losing game.

It was pretty crappy but Fev's late pair cheered things up.

Really though, one of our rare wins of recent times and people are focussing on the junk time part of the match? Who gives a toss? We won the game when it mattered. What was the end 4 qtr margin anyway - 2 goals?

We should have won by 10 goals and made a statement to other teams!

Yet Carrazzo won the B&F in a team which was beaten ad nausem and Simpson showed more heart than just about anyone during the beltings in our last 4 or 5 Pagan-coached games.

Jesus guys, considering where we have cme from, any win is a good win for our footy club. Sure, it would have been nice to run away with the game in the final quarter, however, like I said, any win is a good one.

Could not agree more HBF. Whilst we would all love to win by 10 goals the reality check is we have been poor for 4 years plus and any step in the right direction should be applauded not criticised. We have just won our second game in a row by a comfortable margin and I for one think this is a terrific achievement. :thumbsu: :)

Picky, picky, picky. We should just be happy that we got ourselves the win boys and girls, the circumstances really don't matter at this point! I don't care how we do it, let's just win. I hated this 'short chipping sideways and backwards' strategy, btu it worked wonders, and we won!

When was the last time we kept a team to 68 points, and goalless in one quarter?

Controlled the game, kicked goals when we wanted to, but didn't always want to. Would be a shame to miss out on finals by percentage.

Good win young Blues, now for the Crows.

But most supporters would be interested in more than just the result. We beat a rabble today; played well for 3 quarters, and Judd, Fev and others played very well overall. But one of our biggest weaknesses over the last 4 years has been an inability to run out games, and that was again apparent. Plus, it was a wasted opportunity to build some percentage. If we're in that middle part of the ladder (and I think we should be), percentage could be very important later in the year.

Overall, pleasing to get a win, but the victory against a poor opponent shouldn't blind us to the few concerning issues that came out of the game.

It's great to get the win, but the last term was a bit disappointing. We really took the foot off the gas and instead of burying them we let it go a little. Ratts will let them know that we need to keep it going for the 4 quarters next time.

And Whitnall won it the year before and where is he now???

Carrazzoo won it in one of the worst sides of recent times, as opposed to say winning the B&F for Gellong, for instance.

Sure he won it, but he's been totally lazy this year and hasn't really impacted games the way he should. He needs a rocket up his bum.

This is my point, we are not a superstar team yet and therefore we should be happy to have won but at the same time cognisant of our areas for improvement. Also interested to see you say most supporters would be interested in more than just the result. Judging by some of the rubbish we see on this board the result is the only thing most supporters are interested in!

What the hell do you guys want. Yes we were 48 points up at 3/4 time, however, what would have happened had Melbourne kicked straight? Fact is, they missed some absolute sitters at the 'G today.

One thing that was mentioned to me today is that we often go down to the oppositions level when we have played teams that have been equal, or if it is possible, worse than us.

Fact is, we won, got the 4 points, and we have something to build on for next week against Adelaide.

We also ran pretty hard in the 1st 3 quarters. One, coming out of defence, and two, trying to break Melbournes flood. Jesus you guys are hard to please.

A win is a win! Even if it was against Melbourne FC as Fev said after the game it was a danger game. The start of the second and most of the 4th were below standard but there was plenty to be happy about.
LOved Fev and Setanta taking on the entire Demons (what EddieB was doing in there I am not sure).
Cannot see Thornton missing a week as we have all seen how toothless the tribunal is this year.
Great goals by Judd and Fev!
Nervous when Bower hand passes. Does not seem to really know how to do the task properly. Still on his bandwagon but!
Grigg was quieter. Loved Jamo's work against a good opponent. Cloke was great.Man he is a big fella. Simmo, Stevo.....hope Bryce is back ASAP but we have plenty of ball magnents!
Last qtr should be a great wake up call.
Onward and upward
Welcome to momentum!

It's these sort of "mind snap" quarters that causes us to lose or get thrashed by good teams. We were leading the match against Richmond, St Kilda, and Essendon and it's these sort of fade outs (not necessary in the last quarter) which makes us lose the whole game.

It's something we really need to address.

Fev's goal after the siren was brilliant! 7 straight too! GO FEV!

Today we played 20 good minutes of footy in the second quarter, where we kicked 7 goals. That equals 42 points. We won by 33 points. Simply put, if we take away that 20 minutes from the game, Melbourne outplayed us.

While it is good to get a win, lets be honest, if we are serious about going forward, we had to beat Melbourne today. If we only play 20 minutes of good footy against any other side (As proven by Richmond) we will get beaten.

If we hope to beat other teams, we need to play 4 quarters of good footy. So yes, the last term did worry me, not because we didnt thrash Melbourne, but because it meant we won because of 20 minutes of footy - This is something we need to desperately address.

Sometime, when you play against an ordinary side, your performance as a team drops a notch or two. Especially when a team floods down back. For example Sydney. Usually games that include Sydney is always a scrappy crap game to watch. I was at the game today, and i really think we didn't play all that bad. It was just Melbourne played a dirty type of Football. Especially Carrol...

This is a team that only got beaten by Geelong a few weeks ago by four goals.... and AT Geelongs home turf. We beat them by 5 and a half goals at a neutral turf....

Look at their tactics... they were as negative as a Jewish Mother whose son is getting married to a non jew.

They tried to bottle up and frustrate us... and seriously we had a down day after last weeks herculian effort we still came out and won.

Our boys know they didn't play their best but come next week I think against better opposition, we'll come to play a lot harder!

Yes we played an awful last term.We fell asleep.Ratten will adress this throughout the week.Melbourne however played an extremely boring game which seemed to drag us down with them.I see now how they didnt get smashed by Geelong. After being 50 points up I was hoping to win by 70.But lets look at the positives steps, were not losing by 100+ anymore. We are now competitive every week.We are now even winning games. Its not quite time to stress that we didnt smash the opposition

Was at the game today and I have to say it was a disgraceful last half by the Blues, yes we won but we had them at our mercy and we went back to our old ways again. We are still a bottom four team too many skill errors, to many people switching off when they think the game is won. If we play the way we did in the last half against the Crows we are going to get absolutely thumped. It was good to win but in a lot of ways to me it feels like a hollow victory.

I agree it was great to have a win, but:
1. We should have destroyed Melbourne as they are by far the worse team in the comp
2. We lack fluency. Much prefer to see more run in our game and our midfield taking on the opposition.
3. Why do we insist on winding the clock down in the last quarter when we are up by five goals?

l don't know who you think you are making these type of comments, if you hard a real hard look at today's game Fevola and Judd were the class players that made the difference and yes Waite and Jamison have continued to play well, and we all know Kruezer looks the goods, but seriously if you think beating Melbourne by five goals a team that will probably win 1-3 games is a game we should be satisfied with well l think you are wrong and at least have the capacity to respect other people's opinion instead making sub-standard comments.

the first three games we lacked doing your third point and thus we let in way too many goals in the last 5 min of each quarter.

It doesn't matter who we are playing, we have a game plan and we should implement it each game.

Playing a side such as melbourne is a great opportunity to practice such techniques.

I'm worried about our inability to really run the game out. Our last quarter was disappointing, and has been in every game this year, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we have won a last quarter this year so far? At one stage we were 49 pts up and they should have gone for the kill. My wife is a Melbourne supporter, and she thought it might have been a blowout when we got mthat far ahead, but unfortunately not to be. They will need to play better next week to beat Adelaide IMO.
