View Full Version : Will Minson - LAST QUARTER SPECIALIST!
Read the title, it seems as though big Will saves his best for the last quarters. His been kicking goals from the boundary, tight angles and even holding onto his marks lately.
Today kicked another from a tight angle and kicked the goal to tie the game!
You gotta love the big fella!
Also, IMO he is prob our number one ruck when on song. We look our best with Will in the ruck and cooney/griff/west at his feet.

Agreed Will almost won the game for us.

I was thinking exactly the same thing on the train coming home. Always seems to do his best work in the final term.

Minson had a good last quarter, he could have been a match winner though had he held onto a couple of easy dropped marks. Walked around with 3 goals but could've kicked 5 if he held those marks from 15-25m out.
Either way, encouraging signs, I like the way Big Will is going about it.
He's out-performed Hudson in the last two weeks.

There is no player in our team who get me more pumped up then Big Will. I love it when he kicks those big goals. Gets me out of my seat.

It is becoming obvious that he has trained to be in this FF role he now has, and the last 2/3 weeks he has begun to look comfortable there. Can't wait for the next few weeks - he looks liberated in the forward line.

To be honest he must be one of those cool heads that doesn't even know the game is in the balance. His opponent might panic etc but he knows what needs to be done and does it.
Impressed me in the past two weeks :thumbsu:
I love Will Minson! BIG Will. :thumbsu:

He's going along nicely. Needs to hold his marks.
Slowly but surely, the Wilbur biography.
Moves slow has developed slowly but is moving in the right direction and getting the job done:thumbsu:
Will has been excellent all year and getting better as a forward every week - hope he starts holding onto more marks then look out. But still think he is the most creative ruckman we have. I would guess he has more EFFECTIVE hitouts % wise than just about anyone in the league.
AND..... should have gone into the ruck for last play. He would have had more chance to clear it with one of his famous big thumps into the forward line. Coaching or player error on our part I reckon.

absolutely love Minson. Love his passion, his aggression, goal celebrations etc... And he's a little bit weird and strange.
Not since Danny Southern have we seen a cult figure like this!

And taking over from Bubba in the goal celebrations! I love watching him score goals, just for the way he tries to gee up the rest of the team. It certainly gets us pumped watching at home!

His improvement has been very rapid this year and he really could have kicked 5 today.
Seems to still drop marks after holding them for half a second.
I can actually see him developing into the forward we have been looking for now.
always right

Developing nicely. If he can just hang onto those grabs. Still, at least he's getting clear hands to them which is an improvement on previous years. I sense it's not too far away when we will start seeing him take half a dozen grabs up forward.

Dropped two he should have held in the first quarter. Certain goals that become pretty important in the context of a draw. Had he held onto one of those and Welsh kicked 2.1 instead of 0.3, I think Richmond would have capitulated at 6 goals down 10 minutes into the second quarter.
But he is progressing nicely. If he starts catching a few of those he will be a 40-50 goal forward.

The way Wallace, Brown and Richmond are crying about him, he could possibly be the greatest goal kicker ever.

Even on footy classified, Hutchy/Lyon were saying how Big Will is a great set shot!

I really hope Lake has a few set shots this week and nails them.
Wait a sec he should miss them completely just to pee off Richmond.
always right

This was rediculous. They mentioned what a deadeye Will was as he has kicked something like 14 goals 5 behinds. 14 goals!!! How can you form an opinion about someone's accuracy based on such a low number?
Check out what Nathan Brown had to say about Will's kicking in the age.

AFL admits umpire made mistake in drawn game
"I think the umpire may have thought that Lindsay (Gilbee) wasn't there in the first place and he looked around and he thought Will's probably not the greatest kick," Brown said.
"Unbeknownst to the umpire, Will Minson's goalkicking is phenomenal. It's been very good for a long time and he went back … and full credit to Will Minson, who slotted it through."
Brown also bought into the debate over whether Lake was really injured, a suggestion that Tigers coach Terry Wallace hinted at after the match when he said he expected Lake to play this week.
"I don't think Brian was injured. I just think Brian was very clever. He got the kick to someone else, they got the two points which was what he wanted," Brown said.
