What a fantastic effort

I heard Craigy say earlier in the week that Patrick has one of those personalities where he just fits in straight away, even when he is away from the club for a couple of weeks when he comes back it's like he has never left, he adjusts to training and the environment immediately

He is very popular amongst the player group and with the officials

I would love to see him get an opportunity this week at the G :thumbsu:

2. Jacky isn't ready for the AFL just yet.

4. Norwood play on Friday night, I desperately want to head over to Melbourne for the game. Are there any flights available? :o

He is playing in the TAC against boys with an AFL preseason under his belt. So he should dominate each week he plays.

Lets not get to ahead of ourselves. NC knows what to do. I would rather a Van Berlo or Knights over a Danyle Pearce, who was thrown in and is suffering now. Lets not damage Dangerfield

surely the form demands a push at selection.
i don't think Knights would be ready this week. haven't heard much about Massie, but only that Campbell would be ready to play this week. would they slide Jacky out just for Campbell? i think Danger should be right in the mix of selection and demand a spot, possibly ahead of Campbell.

Craigy has already stated if form is good at any level from a player they will be strongly looked at for selection. His form warrants selection. It is now also a easier option as the game this week is on sat in Melbourne. He would only miss the friday from school to train with the squad in Melbourne. His timing looks right

Surely he should not miss any more school. Teh point of him staying at home was to do well at school which is hampering his footy. Lets not do it half and half and bugger up both things whilst we are at it.

I for one would be happy to see the kid play the whole year in th TAC and let him really concentrate on school and next year he will be jumping out of his skin. Patience is a virtue.

Patience is a virtue.the amount of time put into school depends on the type of course/career he'd like to pursue after footy. ie, if he's like a Liptak (doc), or Hudson (physio) or Holland (pod) or Tippett (pharmer), then he should focus 100% on schooling. if he just wants to complete year 12 satisfactorily, i don't think a few days off during the year would hurt.

The fact he has stayed at home in a comfortable environment opposed to opting for a year 12 over 2 yrs at a school in adelaide (ala Salopek) must mean he is pretty focused regarding his final results. From what we have learnt from this kid so far, he seem to have a degree of maturity beyond his years.

If it gets to the point where he needs the time, i imagine he would be mature and responsible enough to tell NC no. I also anticipate craigy would be equally as proffesional regarding the situation. Remember we are grooming responsible leaders of society, not just footballers.

IMO I think he'll get a gig, being in Melbourne and all.yep, i can't even remember the last time we had this problem of too many youngsters pushing for spots. frankly, i don't think the Maric thing is much of an issue. he hasn't looked even close to playing for the side. he's been named as emergency before, but doesn't look like coming into the team unless it is for another ruckman.

personally, i think Danger debuting this week is extremely hopeful. Knights would probably still be a week away, but Campbell? should he be put straight back into the side for Jacky? which IMO sounds like what would happen; disappointing, because i'd like to see more of Jacky.

I am pretty sure Trent Hentschel kicked 8 goals against Essendon in 2006 at Football Park and the media was misinformed by suggesting that Goodwin's 7 goals against the Eagles was the highest by a Crow since Modra! ;)

But the point still stands, 8 goals after traving to and from Adelaide and then playing for Geelong....its a pretty special effort.

I am not sure how the club would handle Dangerfield's inclusion should his form continue to demand AFL game time. Purely from a football perspective he should play every game for which his form warrants a call up. But of course Neil Craig has already said he must be very careful not to disrupt his academic year. I put this scenario to you:

Dangerfield plays against Carlton this week and has a great debut, playing well enough to easily keep his spot for the following week. He would then most likely have to fly over and train again, missing more school and so on...you can see where I'm going with this and it could be a problem. The club wouldn't want to upset the apple cart here but on the same token he is listed with an AFL club so he has obligations. They will have to find a balance and it is entirely possible that it becomes a case of him being omitted simply because the club doesn't want to disrupt his schooling too much. Awkward situation.

Dangerfield's game vs. Calder Cannons - Round 4 TAC Cup

First of all, you guys saying Hunter must have had a great game based on the bests - well, let's just say it doesn't really tell the whole story. I don't think the Falcons plan on naming in the best players at all when they can help it. It was unavoidable to name him this week, but giving the best to Hunter was token. Tough little player at only 166cm. He had five kicks and 11 handballs, laid four tackles and had four clearances. Not draftable and not the best player on the day.

As for Danger, well, he was impressive. Still needs to work on his kicking, but he was damn impressive. But so he should be. He's had an AFL pre-season and he's playing against a bunch of kids, most of which will only end up being serviceable local league players.

The main feature of his game was, you guessed it, running. He was running so hard and this is illustrated by his high number of handball receives. Most of those HBR's were at full pace and I'd say there was close to ten of them.

When he got the ball he would often just put the foot down and go for it. He was breaking tackles, bouncing and backing himself in. All the exciting sort of stuff. He had two frees against and they were both for holding the ball. One of them was more for incorrect disposal, which was a fair enough free kick. The other one was a rubbish call where he'd broken two tackles, had his hands free and got the handball off but still got called. The biggest thing I noticed when he was getting tackled on the weekend was that he had the ability to get his hands free to handball out of trouble. He was either breaking tackles completely, or able to get rid of it legally, which was very pleasing to see.

I noticed that when he was at full pace and was bouncing the ball he was bouncing remarkably close together. He was literally bouncing as soon as the ball came back into his hands. Another thing that I found interesting with that is that he would often use his first 15m without bouncing, but once he had his first bounce he would bounce as much as a basketball player! It means he's barely actually in posession of the ball when he's bouncing.

His kicking is something I will continue to be critical of, but I feel his disposal at pace is a little bit frantic whether he's bounced it or not. The reason I say this is that I believe when a player bounces the ball that often they're panicking somewhat. If he has that mindset when he's bouncing, maybe he has that mindset when he's kicking. That's also a theory that I realise some people won't subscribe to at all, but I do have to question why he bounces so close together and why his kicking can be so bad, particularly at pace. Just on his kicking I genuinely do think it's a cause for concern and you'll get a snap shot of that as I list all of the important plays he was involved in, which will include both good and bad.

First quarter
- HBR on edge of centre square - ran hard inboard (no bounce) - low, hard left foot delivery was good, but Calder defender spoiled. Falcons got a free kick a second later. The shot fell short but Danger had ran all the way down to the goal square and took a contested mark (two grab) for his first goal.

- HBR on HBF - ran about 5m and broke a tackle, shocking grubber kick.

- HBR on wing - ran about 15m, then took three bounces over the next 15m. He was absolutely flying! Poor kick into the forward 50. Not even really sure who it was meant for.

- HBR about 65m out. One bounce, shot at goal from 50 out but missed to the right.

- A loopy HB from Cannons player went straight to him. Literally boxed in by four Cannons players he crashed his way between two of them, kept his arms free and handballed out of danger (no pun intended).

- Brilliant tackle. Should've been rewarded with a HTB free, but no love from the ump.

- Playing forward now, sliding mark on lead. Really should've goaled from 35 out, minimal angle, but missed.

- Soft free for. Goal.

- Broke two separate tacklers and managed to get a handball off as the second guy was bringing him down.

Second quarter
- Back to the midfield. Free against - incorrect disposal. Running at speed, had his hands free but the ball sort of flung out of his hands as he went to dish it off.

- Gang tackled by about three Cannons, but got the hands off.

- Grabbed the ball straight out of a defensive bounce, baulked and handballed off.

- Playing forward now, good leading mark on 50 hugged up against the boundary, but his man went to ground. Took advantage of this by playing on, handballed off. Goal assist.

- Free kick. Goal.

I gotta take off now, but I'll finish the rest of this off either very late tonight, or more likely tomorrow morning. I'd say he had about 30 touches with about 20 kicks and 10 handballs, 10 marks, a bunch of hard ball gets (over five, but not quite ten), four inside 50's and 8.4.

Hey! Screw you guys! I hit the post reply button to find my good name had been sullied. :p

BTW, I'll still be doing those draftee profiles at some stage. It's not that I'm slow, it's more that I'm a combination of busy and lazy.

"Adelaide may have copped some criticism for drafting him ahead of Brad Ebert but I've absolutely no doubt that injury permitting Pat Dangerfield is a 200-game AFL player," Falcons regional manager Michael Turner said today.

"I've been doing this for 14 years and in terms of preparing AFL players the Falcons have probably been the most successful.

"The guys we've had through include Jonathan Brown, Luke Hodge, Gary Ablett, Jimmy Bartel and Cameron Ling, and Dangerfield is as good as any of the players I've seen coming out of the program."

Adelaide tyro Patrick Dangerfield is presenting a near irresistible case for an AFL debut, despite living across the border in Victoria while he completes Year 12.

Named as an emergency for the Crows last weekend before being released to play for elite level Under-18 team the Geelong Falcons, Dangerfield warmed up with 14 possessions as an onballer in the opening term against Calder.

The coaching staff then moved him forward, where he booted 8.4 in the remaining three quarters.

It was a performance that drew rave reviews from Falcons officials, and forced Adelaide to think seriously about promoting him for Saturday's clash with Carlton at the MCG.

Midfielders Chris Knights and Bryce Campbell and defender Kris Massie are other players pushing their case for inclusion this week.

"Adelaide may have copped some criticism for drafting him ahead of Brad Ebert but I've absolutely no doubt that injury permitting Pat Dangerfield is a 200-game AFL player," Falcons regional manager Michael Turner told AAP.

Turner, in constant contact with the Crows as they track Dangerfield's progress, said the 18-year-old's debut would have occurred weeks ago if he had moved straight to Adelaide after being drafted.

"If he'd opted to go to a private school in Adelaide he would've been playing already," he said.

"He's ready to play AFL footy this year, and the way he's coped with the distractions of travelling from home to Geelong and then flying a lot to Adelaide (to train when school commitments permit) and coming back here and performing shows how focused he is."

Crows football operations manager John Reid said the club had engaged in detailed discussions with Dangerfield's parents about possible scenarios if he were to make his AFL debut in 2008.

Dangerfield has been an emergency for each of the past two weeks.

"That's one predicament we've discussed with his mum and dad, it hasn't happened yet but if it does we'll work with them over what will work best," Reid said.

"The possible scenario is if he gets a game and plays well and warrants another game Neil would be happy to have him playing while staying in Melbourne and for us to have him whenever it suits best."
