We may have lost but these two were great, both chances for this weeks Rising Star nomination especially McKinley. Very exciting stuff.

No chance for the Rising Star with our form. But yeah, the two of them look great.

Masten just seems to know when and how to move

both good.

something to build on at least.

pretty shocking by most of the boys though.

Two shining lights for the future, at the match it seemed like Masten got a lot more than 18 disposals.

Masten shown as the game wore on.

McKinley looks fantastic.

It's like we are two different teams at times. The one that played the last 15 minutes of Q4 is good enough to make the 8, the one that played in the first part of that quarter would struggle to move out of the bottom 4.

Unfortunately for us, we are too hot and cold, and often the times we do play well, we don't kick enough goals, and when we play bad we just stop and the opposition pile on the goals. Not relevent to the thread but I don't care.

McKinley is looking really promising, took a couple of great marks diving low, under pressure, and more importantly can kick straight. Could be a chance for a RS nom this week if he's eligible (anyone know?). Masten's tackling has been quality, he's a little undersized still but goes hard and looks like he could be a star.

Spangher as well is not mentioned here but looks the goods. Promising signs if we can play more consistently.

Bring Scott Selwood and Brad Ebert back into the side
Start biulding for the future.
Get the number one draft pick, get that freak kid.
Trade Seaby and some of the others who have value and start building for the next premiership tilt

Well - when you put it that way - drool. As a Subi supporter I would just love to see Rich in the team.:)

Seaby maybe 200cm of marshmallow but I cant see him being traded.

Who else rucks after Cox?

We may just end up with Rich. If we finish second last, I suspect Melbourne will take Hurley/NickNat, thus freeing up Rich to us.

I agree with that completely... I would probably take Rich as the freak and not Nick.. But it might depend on what other picks we have (trading Seaby)..

I'd like Lynch in the team but hes running out of positions to play... I think he could play 2nd ruck for 10 or so minutes a quarter and hold his own around the ground.. not sure in the centre square...

Generally liked Masten kicking tonight, very good

McKinley's hands and accuracy were fantastic... I don't understand why hes not missing...

I recorded the last quarter ust to see brilliance from these two. Masten has 3 goal assists and McKinley's accuracy and hands were amazing.

Spent the entire 2nd half going on about when Masten got the ball he could actually kick to the advantage of one of our boys.

His work with McKinley in the last quarter was brilliant

yea lets trade seaby so cox can ruck by himself or we put one our forwards in there. o and when cox is injured who will be the number 1 ruckman????? we will not trade seaby

If Mckinley keeps on improving he may be the only chance we have of getting Rich....... a draft upgrade perhaps. Being a Vic boy is also a plus.

I don't think we're bad enough to be bottom 2

Having said that I'd rather keep Mckinley than gambling with the draft. We should be able to get a decent pick anyways.

just out of curiosity is mckinley the guy who was visibly upset on the tv when his name was read out to go to west coast in the draft?
im not asking to have a dig or anything like that, but am just curious as i always wondered how that guy would go, whether homesickness would get him or whether he'd be able to make good, and if it is him then well done, he's a gun. :thumbsu:

LeCras is a smaller forward and can be used as either a midfielder or crumber when he comes back from injury.

Also I don't think there's much problem with having 2 mid sized marking options up forwards, as long as they aren't you're tallest forwards and as long as they chase etc.

I'm pretty sure that Melbourne will have picks 1 and 2 and I think they'll take Rich and Hurley. That would leave Natanui for the second last side, which could be us.

I know a lot of people think that we're a chance to get Rich but we're nowhere near it. He'll go number 1 to Melbourne.

Also, we won't be trading Seaby. Just because several fans want it to happen doesn't mean it will.

IMO Jeff White is on the outs as he gets older and they'll need a ruckman for the future so they make not take Rich.

Lynch takes a mark

As a consequence, several changes were made to the rules in 2006:

* The Priority Round was shifted, so that it was held between the First and Second rounds of the draft.
* Teams would receive a Priority Selection only if they finished the season with fewer than 16.5 premiership points.
* If a team finished with fewer than 16.5 premiership points in two consecutive seasons, then their Priority Selection is taken before the First Round.

They will only get 1 pick at the bottom end of the draft since they won 5 games last year

As much as i would love to have pick 1 and 2 im pretty sure it isnt done like this anymore with the priority. You have to win less then 5 games over a two yr period to get picks 1 and 2.. This yr because it is only the first yr im pretty sure we will get pick 1 and then get a priorty pick in the 2nd round of drafting?? Feel free to correct me if im wrong but pretty sure this is correct!

Hopefully Carlton and Richmond win over 4 games so they dont get the priortiy pick!!

I feel for you guys with all the sh!t that has gone on, your a much better side than ur record suggest.. Think about it this way, it could be worse, you could be a melbourne supporter!!

Nothing said on here means its going to happen... Its a forum... I rate Seaby but i think the club could be better off with a draft pick or upgraded draft pick...

I agree with Mitchzz, Jeff White is getting on a bit and Melbourne probably would take Natanui... I don't really want Nat and Seaby...

Most interesting thing yesterday was watching Ports defence try to handle McKinley. Pettigrew went over to him. Kind of looked around and realised he wasnt anywhere near strong enough to take him. Thurstans then moved over and realised he is just wayy too slow to take him. Think they ended up putting Pettigrew back there but it shows that McKinley is a very hard forward to matchup on.

Would love to know Mastens time on ground in the first half. Single handidly changed the game for us in the last. A ton of clearances and his disposal was soooo good.

masten had 65% game time over the whole game, so i would imagine he played about 50% of the first half considering he was basically on the ground for the whole last qtr.

also fletcher had 59% game time and had 20 touches, he was far from our worst yesterday. he really only made 2-3 notable clangers.

Pretty much sums up why we lost the game that stat. The wrong players spent too much time on the ground. Braun, Stenglein, Hurn, Nicoski. All 4 should of had 60% gametime.

Trading Seaby would be a mistake. Even if we did pick up a very young ruckman in Natanui. All it would take is another freaky illness/injury involving Cox and we would be stuffed. Shadows of Gardiner anyone? People called for us to trade Cox  saying the exact same things that they are now saying about Seabs, Gardiner did a knee and suddenly we needed Coxy. Seaby is a solid second ruck for us, and he usually has a steady pair of hands. You would not want to bring Natanui in full time as a ruckman from day dot unless you seriously want to limit his AFL career. Seaby is a required part of our line up.

All that being said and the fact that key ruck man prospects are looking rarer than rocking horse Sh#t if he turns out to be a natural gun like Judd we'd be pretty pissed off wouldn't we.:)

Imagine the influence Masten would have if he was left on the bulk of the game instead of 65 %. He'd get 30+ touches.

It really pi$$ed me off when Gerald Healy said Masten had to work on his kicking after he shanked one straight to McKinley, his kicking to the leading player was terrific and he hit the target almost ever time.

Ah, righto, it's under 5 wins to qualify for a PP before the 1st round and Melbourne won 5 last year so they don't qualify.

For some reason I thought 5 wins meant you do qualify for a PP but I'm glad to be proven wrong.

Anyhow, it'll be interesting to see who they take with pick 1. I still think they'll take Rich over Natanui.

"The West Coast spirit that we have come to respect was just not present in the second and third quarters when it really mattered.

That’s not to say that the Eagles are bereft of hope; far from it. Midfielder Chris Masten is an absolute gun in the making, while Ben McKinley is the future of the forward line. Promising onballer Brad Ebert, who didn’t play on Sunday, could well play 200 games for the club."
