View Full Version : The thing about the Crows of old that I miss...

...is how we used to have the market cornered for goal sneaks. Jarman, Vardy, Bode at times etc, we used to have players who could just produce goals deadset out of their backsides, and when you went to a Crows game you knew there was going to be excitement and flair galore even if we lost.

These days the Crows play such a "conventional" brand of football. Even when it's attacking it is still clinical, systematic, like we just go through the motions. Maybe occasionally we'll see something flukey from Burton, some graceful dashes from McLeod, but it is nothing like what the club used to be known for. I have high hopes for a select couple of kids but for the here and now, the cupboard is slightly bare.

I look at Hawthorn, they've got Franklin who is a freak goal kicking machine; Collingwood has Thomas and Didak who can both do the unthinkable etc etc. Granted these are very special talents but still...I wish we could inject some of that old flair we used to have in truckloads. :(

Before I address the question at hand, Dale Thomas is the most overrated player in the game. Takes one good mark or kicks one good goal a game and all of a sudden he's played a ripper? I don't buy into the hype one bit.

Yes we are missing a crumber up forward, and apart from McLeod and Burton we don’t have many who alone bring people to the game (a cliché, but still somewhat relevant). I’m hoping Dangerfield is one who’ll add some sheer excitement to the team and from what I saw of Walker on Friday, he fits the ball. Two of his goals were awesome and brought the crowd alive. On debut he turned to the hill and gave a few fist pumps, I love his attitude.

I'll be honest, I personally don't like Dale Thomas one bit, but the most overrated player in the game? Drummond please. Watch the guy play a few times live and you'll realise that comment is ridiculous.

His is extremely overrated. The fact that he made the Victorian squad is testament to this. He’s been okay so far this season, but good enough to make the Vic squad, not even close. He got there because of his name. He's a good player, quick, nimble, very smart, but he’s nowhere near being a great player yet, yet most talk him up as if he is.

Thomas is a very good young kid, and has a lot of potential, but at the moment a lot of his hype is a result of him playing for Collingwood.

most of those players you mentioned weren't goal sneaks.

Tony Modra....

I remember walking to the ground each game and we would have bets on how many goals he would kick. Plus whenever the ball was pumped deep into the forward line everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting to see the man ride over the pack for a screamer.

Good times.

Drummond, you complain about Dale Thomas being overrated despite the fact the kid is quality even if he does have a soft nickname, yet you have overrated every Norwood player to appear on the Crow list as well as those who haven't even been drafted yet.

He's talked up because he plays for Eddie's rabble (and because he bears a striking resemblance to the Paddlepop Lion). But he's nearly a superstar - he's almost as good as Bernie Vince, for instance, but nowhere near Porp's league:

Oh, be careful. Crowmo has a man crush on John Klug, even bigger than his mantasy man, Chris Groom.

Klug is Ben Affleck to Crowmo's Jimmy Kimmel.

yes, but unlike you my man-crushes don't involve the exchange of bodily fluids. :D
