View Full Version : We shouldn't be happy
At the end of the game i was disappointed that the bulldogs supporters were cheering our team off. we played so poorly and got lucky in the end. richmond is a team we should be beating if we are going to make the top 4.
even daniel cross agrees with me!

I was happy because my best mate is a Richmond supporter and started mini celebrations with 3 minutes to go.
However very disappointed we didn't finish the game off in the 1st quarter

It's a game that leads to conflicting emotions...
Was I happy we didn't beat Richmond..... No.
Was I happy with the way we played..... No.
Was I happy with our skills or endeavour..... No.
Am I happy we fought back in the last few minutes..... Yes.
Am I happy we didn't lose to Richmond..... Yes.
Am I happy that Nathan Brown thought they had it won, then reality set in.... Yes......
But would I like to see us play that way again.
No.

Question for all the coaches out there. Would you have played Johno. I am disappointed in the fact some players play who seriously should not be playing. West is available this week and expectations will be high but he had surgery surely he won't be 100%. Don't see the point really off playing guys who can't get up a gallop. Would have rather just given a game to a kid.
Me I am disappointed in the coaching and medical staff for not having the balls to make a call. Putting Individuals ahead off the team again.

I was relieved, at the siren that relief was expressed through a cheer. Good on the lads for not dropping the ball com pletely but Crossy is bang on, there wouldn't be too many people "happy" with the result, or at least with the performance.

u make a good argument, but u are doing in the wrong thread! this is about why we should not be happy after the richmond game.

I am esctatic, in fact more happy than the Melbourne game. Richmond learnt from Essendon and executed better than Essendon. We weathered their storm and still had the willpower to challenge up. A season is a journey not an outcome, enjoy the journey and let the outcomes look after themselves.
Apart from the Dees and Geelong at this moment no team can expect to lose or win every week. What will be thrown up this week, Ray's return, dust-ups and melees, Skipper taking speccys' the anticipation is killing me.

Are you serious? Ecstatic? The Bulldogs should of learnt from the Essendon game and expected the same from Richmond. You cant expect to win every week but you shouldnt have to struggle to beat bottom 8 teams two weeks in a row.

In all honesty I thought we had lost this game.
Mt head was telling me we should/could have won but.
My heart was saying im happy with a draw.
Also at about the 25 min mark of the 4 quarter I thought to my self. When we lose today I hope the dogs go back and have a hard long look at them selfs to see the fact that they have to beat teams like Essendon, Richmon, West Coast and co convincingly to show,be a top 4 team.
When we drew it was better because I still felt/ thought the same except we walk away with an extra 2 points.

I clapped them off. Not a good result by any stretch of the imagination, but a gutsy comeback nonetheless. We just don't know when we are beaten, which is a great trait for a team to have

I disagree because we are flying at the moment and I bet if I had told you we would be 4-1-0 after that game against the bombers in the NAB cup I bet you would have either laughed at me or abused me so for me I will asses how good we are in the next 4 weeks..

That's an excellent point. We played well below par, they had us on the rack twice, yet we somehow managed to get something out of the game. In all games this season, except Melbourne match, we have been in a grim position. Yet each time this situation arose, we have found a way to get going and get out of the mess we were in.
That can be attributable to a number of reasons:
1. Team attitude; we are never beaten.
2. Extra long pre-season = big fitness base at this stage of the season.
3. Growing maturity of side.
4. Redemption for last year.
Could be a combine of all or some or other reasons, don't know. We certainly dont want to keep getting in these positions because eventually the tide will turn against us.
So, I guess I am happy considering how we played.
I bet you if Daniel Cross posted what he said about the loss to Essendon he would have been hung out to dry.
Anyone who is happy with a draw to a crap team like Richmond is stupid. Im happy we got 2 points when we deserved none. 4-1-0 means nothing because it doesnt gurantee you play finals football.

If the question was asked with 3.5 minutes to go and 19 points down would you be happy if it was draw every bulldog supporter would have said yes.
If the question was asked prior to the game the answer is no.
So should I be happy after the game I am not sure but I know I was when the siren rang. Mine you not as happy as I was in the 70s when we drew with the blues to make the finals by the 2 points we gained.

You can only win so many games playing well below your best before you get flogged one day.
We've been convincing in two games so far this year. We shouldn't have beaten Adelaide, if not for a couple of unfortunate injuries Essendon would have run over the top of us, and it took three goals in the last few minutes against Richmond to avoid an embarrassing loss.
Am I happy we're 4-1-0? Yes.
Do I think we deserve to be 4-1-0? No.
We've been very lucky so far this year. Turn those three games around and we're 2-0-3.
People are going to be in for a big shock if they think that what we've served up so far will cut it against the top teams.
Call me a pessimist, but I'm over getting my hopes up early in the year.

Very interesting that crossy said that he wasn't happy with the team/clubs culture of being content with underperforming.
Is this not exactly what chapman of geelong said last year when he was sick of the same thing at geelong. Geelong then decided to have an honesty meeting with all players and from then on its history.
Maybe if enough bulldogs players feel the same as crossy, we can expect similar results?

Richmond are not as crappy as they were last year.
They probably rate around the same as Essendon currently.
There structure is working a lot better with Richo operating around the ground and without Bowden operating as a sweeper.
Daniel Cross was also found wanting a couple of times trying to chase some of the quicker Richmond players tail feathers on Sunday as well.
I was a happier camper at the end of the game than about 4 minutes and 19 points beforehand.
