Forgetting the backs, how many taggers do we need in the side?

We've got Sewell, who needs tagging himself these days, A+++ midfielder.

Clarke is a run-with machine who can follow an opponent all day and keep them under constant pressure.

And Osborne can put the heat on the opposition play maker in our forward line.

You can't just have a side of silky outside talent - you need a fair bit of hard nosed grit in there, which is where Ozzie and Clarke fit in, IMO :thumbsu:

Are these the main guys that we've got for the jobs? Or maybe too many or the wrong guys for the job?

Interested in people's thoughts.

I think you need at least one in the 22, may not be the same guy each week. Unfortunately Sewell was our best at the start of last year but is now better in a more attacking role.(a good problem to have) I still think he's our best option if we are tagging someone in the middle(in and under type).

Clarke is good on a small running m/f or a small attacking half back but don't like the thought of him at the center bounce.

Ozzie is OK for the attacking half back but doesn't have the tank.

The ideal tagger has a huge motor, reads the play well, disciplined and a bit of size so won't get pushed or blocked off his opponent and plays tall. I don't think speed is all that important. If Kennedy could get really fit he'd be ideal, big body, strong reads the play well. Not near fit enough this year but you never know, next year maybe

Would much rather have Osborne than Clarke . He can do the same job if we need him and his disposal and reading of the play is much better than Clarkes

To be honest we will need a few when we play Geelong.

I dont care how good we percieve our midfield to be, we will need to tag Ablett and Bartell (and maybe Corey too).

You take two of those three out of the game and keep Steve Johnson and/or Chapman quiet and they dont kick goals (hence we win) :D

Against Geelong I would have Sewell with a hard tag on Ablett but we will struggle against Bartell as he is a very good mark and would exploit a Tim Clarke. Not sure if either have the tank but I would look to Ladson or Osbourne.

I think the three you have named are the ones to do the job. You would not want any more taggers or extremely defensive minded players playing in the midfield as we would sacrifice to much of our own game. I would back ourselves in most weeks to go head to head with teams in the centre bounce and let the likes of Mitch, Hodge and Sewell teach other teams a lesson or two.

With you HH. We should be tooling up to beat this side. Ossie tags their run off the backline and provides some hurt on the scoreboard. Sewell can shut down a mid and get the ball. Am not sure who Timmy would pick up. Hodge and Mitch tend to be tagged. I would like to see if Lewis could lock someone down. Crawf has also done some big jobs as a tagger.
