I selected McKinley on the Player Sponsor draft before the season began
At that time I had expected to be able to post on Big Footy regularly but unfortunately that was not the case.
Due to unexpected work and study commitments and due to my sister hogging the computer on the claim of being a med student I have barely being on Big Footy at all this season. My few appearances have been sporadic and short of nature.
I will attempt to find ways to get on to Big Footy more in the future but that is not the point of this post.
Due to the above reasons I have decided that I am unable to fulfil the required duties of being the player sponsor of any AFL player let alone the next West Coast super star.
Therefore I would like to tender my resignation of the player sponsorship for Benjamin McKinley and allow another more consistent poster to give him the support he deserves and I was unable to give him.

I'd be honoured to have the priviledge, but I think maybe we should have a contest or a vote or something, to make it fair.
If not, I'll take it here and now:D

I'll also stick my hand up for sponsoring young Benny.
On another note...Did you know Ben McKinley is studying a law degree. Great to see these young guys doing proactive stuff outside of football and its also a tribute to the club.
Heres a video of Benny's effort on the weekend (against Port) where he kicked his first (of many hopefully) bag of goals.

McKinley so far this year has had
14 Goals
2 Behinds
24 Kicks
16 Marks
13 Handpasses
Not bad for a young forward who everyone thought would be too short to play AFL. Keep it up Benny. :thumbsu:

Was just listening to 6PR tonight and Hangdorn (I think it was him) said that McKinley's comments about his contract to the media weren't taken well by some of the Eagles higher-ups, and that's why he was dropped.
Someone should be able to find the link to the article but according to Haggers, McKinley said something like "If the Eagles don't offer me a new contract I'll have to look elsewhere". Apparently the Eagles would've been happier with something like "I just want to concentrate on my footy with the Eagles and trying to become the best player I can for this club".
Interesting times ahead, I think. I'd hate to lose young Ben.

Bit of a no-brainer though. Obviously if the Eagles don't offer him a new contract, he'll have no choice but to look elsewhere. Not exactly rocket science....

Right, I agree and that's what the other guy on the show said.
Hagdorn replied by saying that that's too much of an individualistic attitude.
Go figure.

Well, at least he was honest about it rather than spouting the usual crap players say. I've no problem with it, sounds like if he's offered a contract, he'll take it. I'm sure he'll be trying to cement his spot in the side.

I reckon we'd be pretty stupid to let him go at this point in time, we've spent a fair bit on developing him and he can fit into our forward line.

By saying that, it means he wants to stay with the eagles, unlike someone who said before that he'll talk about it at the end of the season because he would end it eventually.
I'd be pi@#$ed if WCE lets him go:mad:

i doubt he'll leave now.
last year was really the time that he would've left west coast. uncontracted, played 1 game and negotiations were still ongoing about whether he would stay at west coast with us involved in trade week.
now he's shown us what hes got and will be offered a contract. if he wanted to leave, he would've already done so when given the choice. he should be more hungry than ever to stay with the club.
i reckon he'll stay.

Did you think maybe nobody rated him last year given he had shown very little?

he had some interest shown in him by some victorian clubs and decided he wanted to stay.
