Please could someone explain to me why we currently tell lies about injuries

recent eg....

Mark Williams Round 4 07 hurts his knee.....Clubs line was "will miss 12 weeks and be back firing by round 16-17 and right by the finals. Willow misses the entire season

Rob Campbell 06 Clubs line...Robbie has hurt his knee but should only miss around 8-10. Robbie misses the entire season.

Stewie Dew..Hurts Hammy round 2...."Stewie has a minor tear and will be right in 2-3 weeks as it is not a major hammy". Next week will be 5 weeks since he did it.

Max Bailey twisted his knee doing a stationary handball drill  Clubs line...max has had a minor setback and will be out of action for 5-6 weeks meaning he should be right to go by round 4 or 5. Max is still listed as 5 weeks away on our website.

ok i am sure you get my point...Someone explain to me why we do it and what positive we gain from doing this. Other clubs are aware of the facts so why tell our own supporters porky pies....GIVE US THE TRUTH.

You can't handle the truth.

It also extends to match day selections. A recent example is Tim Boyle. He was named to play against Adelaide, was a late withdrawal and hasn't played since.

Gee I don't know.

Maybe they want to confuse other clubs?

Failing that, it appears that you are calling Hawthorn dishonest. Have you ever stopped to consider that medicine is not a perfect science, after all you slipped through the cracks, and that injury estimates are in fact estimates?

Fair point. It's a bit frustrating for fans and I can't imagine the players appreciate it either. Every club does it though. Brad Ottens was a late withdrawal from rd.1 and still isn't close to playing. Maybe the club doctor leaves the estimates up to his secretary

I agree, it is a sad state of affairs. Clubs telling porkies about players health and fitness and selections, it is the pits.

I am so outraged I will cancel my membership.

Believe that and you are gullible

Why tell the truth? If the opposition spends the week banking on Player X to play and he doesn't, that works in our favour.

I'd LIKE to know what's going on but I also understand that football clubs don't like to let any secrets out of the bag.

And as long as Clarkson knows what's going on, I'm happy with that.

Seriously though, why not do what Collingwood do?

Get people who sign up to, say, a Kennedy Club membership to receive generic emails from the club, with accurate summations as to who is genuinely injured.

If it means 15 other clubs will be buying our memberships just to access this, then so be it.

This isn't anything new lickmerocks.

Every club has been doing it for years. Recovery is not an exact science.

Willo was ok to play late last year but they decided that it wasn't worth the risk - they openly stated that.

Heres one for confusion and questioning. It was reported on BF that Zac Dawson (which I take with a grain of salt) had injured his ribs and hence that is why he is not playing for Box Hill. Why therefore is he not on the Hawthornfc website injury list? Also I have not heard anyone at Hawthorn speak about it. Why is that? How long will he be out for?

That's deliberate

Jeepers thats a great help.

If a player is out for a period of time other clubs know exactly whats going on and when they are likely to return. They watch us train.

Do you think other clubs are concerned when Max Bailey will be right to resume playing for Box Hill? I am just saying a little honesty every now and then so we can follow our playing list would be helpful.

Anyone with any sightings of the Cougar please post here.

As has been said, Medicine is an inexact science.

Case in point:

I hurt my Calf Muscle just before Cricket Season, Physio's said 2-3 weeks.

Turns out I'd almost completely torn it and it was 3 MONTHS before I was pain free..let alone starting jogging again and building up to playing sport.

Soft tissue injuries can be very difficult to get right. Who cares what date the Club puts on their website?
