View Full Version : Bruce & Junior Co-Captains
Really wasn't anyone else they could name. I'm not a massive fan of co-captains, but until we're ready to name Neita's long-term successor, this is a good result.

Really? Why not give Brock a chance to step up to the plate?
What better test are you going to get? Why name 2 guys who are never going to be captain because of their ages as fill-in captains, when it presents you with the perfect opportunity to find some positives in Neita's absence.
I guess Bailey is looking at the empty half of the glass

Because he was kicked out of the leadership group earlier in the year...

Because if Brock was to be named Captain, basically all the punishment, and rules/agreements that the leadership group had agreed on would count for naught, and as a football club we would appear to be making exceptions to certain players because of their playing ability. Brock has other things to worry about without being Captain, like acting like a modern day professional footballer.
He'll get his chance to put his hand up for Captain, but I for one am glad it isn't now, for the sake of the culture we are attempting to introduce.

Haha sounds like another club doesn't it!

This would be another of those decisions you make when you don't want to make a decision. Would anyone have expected less?

You are kidding yourself if you think that the better players don't get special treatment.
I mean, all player are paid the same because they're all just as important as each other. Aren't they?
I'm fully aware the McLean was kicked out of the leadership group, my suggestion of making him captain was not as a reward but more as an acid test to see how he will handle the pressure as captain, some players play better with the extra pressure.
Maybe showing a little faith in him by doing that is exactly what he needs to straighten up and concentrate on his footy.
And if he doesn't handle it, maybe he's not a suitable choice for captain and next year the job of selecting a captain is made slightly easier.
I'm not saying that's deffinately what should happen, I was just throwing the idea out there.
But i don't think there is anything to gain by having joint captains both without a chance of being permanent captain.
Brock McLean does not deserve the chance to become the Captain of the Melbourne Footy Club right now.
Needs to prove he's not an absolute idiot first.

Spot on, although I'm pretty pleased with how he has handled himself out on the field so far this year. Can't fault the boy for having a crack!
I really like Bruce. I think he has a good presence on the field.
McLean has done all the right things on the field to redeem himself thus far. I think he can make it.

McLean simply needs to have a consistent year on the field, and keep out of trouble off the field, and I'm sure he'll be considered for the position in 2009.
Although, I reckon we might see co-captains next year.

Couldn't really care less. McDonald and Bruce will still be the same players out on the field and will still get the same support from the likes of McLean and Green who aren't even in the leadership group.

I think that Green has been one of the only players this year who has shown on-field leadership and if he was in the leadership group he would've and should've been named captain. Although he is the only real trade bait that we have come the end of the season and the club could be looking to trade him for a first rounder.
