To be honest PS I think it's quite a disappointing figure.
We're only marginally in front of last year and we finished with 30,950 members last year.
With the positive thoughts after the trading period, the recruitment of important off-field staff and a pre-season premiership I would have thought we'd be in an ideal position to break our record of 32,327 and even push on towards 35,000 but unfortunately it's not going to happen.
There are a number of teams who we should be competing with and they have left us behind. Even the Kangaroos have more members than us.
There's been a lot of expectations on our boys since 2004 and perhaps our supporters have had enough although that doesn't seem to have been reflected in our attendances thus far.
If there are any supporters on here who haven't bought a membership you're not alone but you're certainly letting the club down.

That Western Bulldogs game was a killer. We played disgraceful after qrt time. No St.kilda supporter would want to buy a membership after that performance.
To the Saints credit, we had a good win against Essendon. You never know, beating port in Adelaide for the first time since 1997 might spark a revival.

I'm pretty dissapointed.
I thought we were on for 35k.
31.5 is looking likely from here.

Schneider was interviewed at half time on friday night and said the club were aiming for 32,000 so that's about right unfortunately.
I suppose if we go on a winning run from here on in we might sign up a few more but at the same time we've already played 4 of our 11 home games so it's not likely to be too many.

I can't see us getting 32.

Yeah, I guess I'm looking at the glass half full - the first four weeks, we played absolutely terrible football that crushed all the momentum the membership-recruiting dept would have been building on after the NAB Cup win. Chris Footy's right - nobody was inspired to get a membership for any of those games. Given that, 30000+ is something, and we could be in a far worse situation. As for the Kangas, we all know that their membership ###s are worth stuff all, because a huge proportion of them are non-Kangas fans who have bought them this year out of pity. They won't next year, and the Kangas will be stuffed again (which is why I think it actually hurt them to do that, just btw...).

Simple.
Put it down to game style.
If the team play boring defensive football, its a fact less people are going to become members.
Absolute Fact.
Which is why the team must strive to play attacking direct football. It brings money to the club, brings members and brings passion and excitement - and the team just looks a whole lot better.
That is why we won't get a record membership this year, and the reason is Ross has identified himself strongly with a negative type of game plan.
Defensive pressure can be there without it being a negative game plan, but Ross sometimes takes it a bit too far - he's got to watch this a little bit. We need more defensive pressure, but we don't need an all round negative game plan.
I think if we were playing similarly to how we started 2004, and had played like that last year, we would definitely have 35,000+ members at the moment.

If you have not purchased your membership yet, i doubt anyone would really bother after our efforts tonight. Does not exactly fill you with excitement.

We used to be an Exciting team to watch a few years ago. I miss Thomo and those great games we were apart of.
If I saw Butters down the street I would *Edited* for the turmoil he has caused this club and where he has led us today.
Grant took us to 2 Pre-lims with all the injuries we had and was told he wasn't apart of the clubs future.
Lyon is a great coach but he doesn't suit our team. We have really made some mistakes over the last couple years.
We choke football games with this defensive short kicking around maintaining possession football style that only loses us games. All players were playing better under Grant.
Could Grant ever return to the saints, he is a great coach after all. He knows this team inside out.

Any chance that the tally will actually fall back below 30000?
Pretty sure there will be a few more letters than usual addressed to Linton st this week with sliced up membership inside. I hope someone does, to send a message to them that we don't want this bullshit anymore.

I'm glad you asked that question CHBench. The answer to that is quite simple. If Lyon is not removed and he is our coach again next year then our membership total will fall to 25,000 in 2009.
For the sake of our great club we must get GT back!!!!!!

This is your absolute last warning Nexus.
We've given you more than enough leeway and you've continually ignored us. Post about GT and "BUTTHEAD" and you're banned from our board.
No posts in this thread have been deleted by Kildonan or myself either.

There is no need to ban me, I'm going back to Saintsational. You can just stay here and watch your team go down the drain with Lyon employing the most ridiculous and most boring game plan in the AFL.

There are 156 very positive saints out there. Kudos to them for sticking with us. Even after saturday's "below standard" performance they still had the faith.:):thumbsu:

Great stuff!
Does anybody remember the day Blighty was sacked? Triple M were broadcasting live from the Moorabbin. It was as if the football world had decided that our time was up. And we had supporters who were turning up and buying memberships. The official date had closed but they were there to show their support for their football club that was under siege.
For all that's said about our club, we're not too bad. :thumbsu:

Still lack members sainter.
Without some big wins, can't see our numbers jumping too much.

Haven't been watching this thread but got bored so thought I'd have a read.
Two points:
1) See ya Nexus ya DH.
2) If 'supporters' only buy memberships when we're winning then go join Nexus at Bomberland. It is when we are losing that the club needs even more support to get it back up. I'm a full member and I only get to 3 games a year max due to my location. I'm not buying the memberships for cheap gate entry.

I think our record is 32,327.
We're 700 down on lasts year total of 30,950
And 75 down on the same time last year.
C'mon saints, lets just get past last years total.:thumbsu:
