A fantastic return to the winners circle today from the Pies.
When the game was in the balance we took full control and did not let go until the siren. The players obvious confidence sows a great recovery from our last two performances and will only reinforce the optimism I hope we can turn into results for the rest of the season.
Great signs that despite the lack of Rocca we could construct a forward setup which has yielded such a great result. The boys ability to go on late in the last and make sure of a record margin was entirely heartening.

Medhurst....go you good thing. Best game for Collingwood not only for his outstanding individual performance and well deserved medal but his fantastic team focus during the entire game.

It is difficult to pick out our best, apart from Medhurst who played his best and most important game for Collingwood today, as all played their part however I think this was Pendlebury's finest game so far. Had he slotted a couple of goals he would have had the medal.

And where is the cold comfort you may ask?

Well the game and the result is cold comfort for the small band of "knockers" who infect our boards.

O'Bree was excellent.
Johnson was excellent.
Wakelin was excellent.
Maxwell was excellent.
Fraser was excellent.
Rhyce Shaw was excellent.
Our debutant, Wellingham was excellent.
Cook was excellent.
Cloke was excellent.
The only player who is regularly canned by his own who can't tell them to eat cake is Rocca and he has to be excused because he did not play.

All in all it was a great return to form by the Pies....and a joy to watch.

Right now I am extremely proud that I am a Collingwood supporter who never doubted them and showed support for all the players.

Agreed. I actually thought our forward line looked shaky early, but they turned it around well. Assuming MM brings Rocca and Burns back, who are the unlucky players that make way?

Great win but let's not get too carried away just yet. Essendon were really awful today, and the number of times they allowed us to have an unmanned player on centre wing was unbelieveable.

The real test for us arrives as early as next week and continues for the following couple of games. Should we emerge intact from those then your unbridled optimism may be on the money.

Pleasing to see Wellingham and Cook put in reasonable games. Wellingham in particular showed real ability to read the fall of the ball from a marking contest. Wood did not do a great deal but when he does it is usually very effective eg his tap at the centre bounce to O'Bree and his two marks-one backing back into a pack at half back and the other up forward from which he goaled. Nathan Brown got a real pasting early but as the game wore on he began doing a few things that he has not been able to do so far i.e. win the ball himself. And as for Medhurst-well we all knew he had the talent. Is he, accounting for size, the best mark in AFL??????

I was a little disappointed though that we still kick the ball into the forward pockets due to the leading of players such as Cloke and Lockyer. Pendleberry also played a great game in the midfield but must improve his kicking for goals. Good sides won't let us off the hook like the Bombers did today.

Did anyone watch the game on TV and get frustated with whoever was directing for Channel 10? The number of times they would cut away from a vital ruck contest, kick out or free kick to show some meaningless shot or replay of a previous part of the game ,that was not even worth watching again, drove me absolutely mad!!!!!!!!

God knows....I am glad I am not a coach.
Totally apart from who played well and who played less well, the best thing was the endeavour. The pressure, tackling and most importantly the passion was great to watch...back to late last year.

Well im not a knocker of the boys but honest when pointing out the obvious. Yes today was a great win and im proud and more happy that we finished off well in the last quarter. But please go back and watch the first quarter again. We played crap footy, handballs everywere and indirect, some of the short passes went directly to the opposition, the ball was taken out of our forward pocket far too easy. We looked terrible. And when we play the teams like cats and hawks they will be up by 6 or 8 goals at quarter time. Yes a great win today against a very very ordinary and injury stricken bombers who seemed to give up in the last quarter.

Agreed. And I think Marty is coming good. But yes, Essendon did stink today.

don't think Rhyce or Maxwell deserved an excellent guernsey they only started to get the ball when it was all over. Don't forget there was not much of an opposition after half- time let's see how we go against the hawks see who stands up next week.

We aint Geelong yet - Great team effort, made my day and good to see a post that doesn't focus on negatives.

Rhyce was excellent all game in negating Lovett who is one of the sparks in the Dons lineup. Credit where its due.

Maxwell was excellent. He kept his man, or should I say men, down all day. He did not over play his role physically (as has been a bug in the arse of many previously), he ran off his man several times and even bobbed up in the forward line a few times and he did this quietly, purposefully and maturely.
I can't see you can ask too much more from a backman who many say is too flamboyant, too aggressive and too lacking in real talent.

Your opinion.

When we lose it is impossible the team which beat us was and any good.
When we win it because the team we beat were crap.

My post is pointing out that the "Whinger Brigade" should be out in force acknowledging that the bulk of their targets performed and well.
This will not happen but I am more than happy to point it out.

There are people on here who simply cannot admit it if we get a good solid contribution across the board. Some player is always in their sights regardless of how well the team plays.

Without knowing exact dates I believe it was our biggest win against the bombers since 1971. (some one will no doubt point out it was 72 not that it really makes any difference) Everyone contributed, even the debutant and when we could have coasted home we got on our bikes and grabbed some percentage.

I would not care if the win was against the worst side in the competition. as any side can win on their day. Look at Freo, damn near pinched one from the all conquering Pussies.

Already in the face of the fact that Johnson was named in the best by nearly all the sports reporting agencies the same old suspects are on knocking him.
"it is just one decent performance and won't last" is about the best they will concede. Some still maintain he did not play well.

Well I want to see that a good performance is acknowledged for what it is not see it dragged down by the "knockers".

If you can't at least acknowledge a good victory without tearing it to bits and over analyzing individuals maybe you should post something next loss instead of spoiling others enjoyment of it.
