Thought he was great. Looked much more comfortable than last year. Didn't look out of place at all.

Looked quite polished with plenty of run and dare to take the opposition on.
Have high hopes for him and today was a step forward in his development.
I'm just worried about who's going to be dropped this week for Burns and Rocca. This week we dropped players purely based on last week's performance but that would mean dropping Thomas, and nobody wants to see that happen.
Gee I'd hate to be making this decision atm.

Great to see it looks like we have unearthed a couple more good mids, sorely needed. Sounded like not a whole lot of competition today (only heard on net-radio) so will be a bigger test next week obviously. I'm sure they'll both be persisted with vs Dawks.

If it comes down to it, Cook may well find himself in the 2's next week, which would be a disappointment after he played a very good game!
I dont know who you bring Rocca in for

wellingham will be most likely sent back, because he was only brought in as emergency when rocca didnt make it. the same happened to JA, no matter how well he played he was going to be sent back because he was an emergency to replace Reid
its a shame, i am so looking forward to wellingham playing a big role in our mf

I agree.
Both Cook and Wellingham were very good but to be honest there was little test out there yesterday. Next week will be a real indicator of how far they have come so both must play. Which brings in a very difficult question on who should be dropped? Rocca and Burns should hopefully be right to come in. Rocca should play as his size will worry Hawthorn. The only person that comes to mind in Johnson however he played a solid game yesterday too and doesn't deserve to be dropped.

I think Cooks a good player, if we could only see him more. He was "willing" his kicks to his team mates today but that's just confidence. (they got there but a little too much 'hang time").
He played in only his 4th game today, and can easily be excused for not playing more games since drafted as the likes of Buckley, Burns, O'Bree, Holland, Licuria etc have made the midfield their own in recent times.
I'll stick by him for now it's too early to write him off and we're not blessed with many mids atm.
Wellingham will go first as the Hawks are big and will play a lot closer than Ess.
The big question is how far away are Burns and Rocca ?? They may be a couple of weeks yet ,who knows ?

Cook, did good. I've been a fan for a while. However, it was an onslaught of crap from Essendumb. He looked like a poor mans' Pennders.
So Cook was ok, once again, I ask, who is he going to replace?

Agree, an onslaught. With no injuries (rocca, Burns), and Clarke and Johnson doing OK it seems he replaces no one. Yet...

I suppose they might be almost forced to replace one or both of em but they would be very reluctant to. Burns possibly has to come back in if recovered, but then again he might have lost a lot of fitness and need a magoos game. Rocca - not sure, given he wasn't doing much and forward line worked better this game they might leave him out to see how it goes, considering Medhurst/s form and Cloke hitting form - so ti's quite possible Cook and Wello will play.

I thought Cook looked good, but not great. He coughed up the ball on a couple of occasions, but generally speaking he did a good job on Stanton.
His skills concern me a bit, but his attributes of endurance and pace could see him get opportunities as a tagger in the short-to-medium term, and he will have time to work on his game to become a mid in his own right... much like Brodie Holland.

I thought Cook was pretty good, but not great. His kicking tends to leave his teammates a bit vulnerable, but his pace & endurance are good attributes. I can't see him holding his place if/when Burns is fit.

Been a vocal fan of Cook, but he looked a bit awed on Friday, and I'd honestly expect him to perform much better next week.
Burns to come in for Wellingham, nothing to do with Wellingham's performance, but team balance.

^i disagree, i thought he looked very comfortable, and at times his reaction in traffic was always cool
i dont recall any single incident where he seemed in awe or panicky

Cook had a big job to on Stanton. First game for the year (& big pressure game also). He's stats were very good. A lot of other players were well below him.
I believe we should encourage the kid, he's only just turned 20yrs old.

cook and wellingham, if they keep their heads screwed on right, have a good future set out for them in our midfield.
danny stanley may be just behind these two but i'm also hoping we give him a few more cracks to prove himself

Never been a fan, he looked lost in previous games at AFL level.
He was good on friday though, so hopefully I was wrong.

Cook might be a prime candidate for a midfield tagging role against Hawthorn - He's got the size and the endurance to go with someone like Lewis or even Hodge.
That's if he holds his spot, with Burns returning.

Cook reminds me of Swan before he made it, nobody liked him, nobody saw him coming, he just didn't seem to have anything special about him, then suddenly he started accumulating and now is just about our premier midfielder.

Same thing i said to my mate a while ago

Tagging is the role he should be groomed for from here on in.
Good endurance and works hard to do his job.

The crippled boy is correct. :D
Cook is the understudy to R Shaw as our designated tagger, IMHO.

It's all about the tank
Be it Carlton for draft picks
or the modern day midfielder

Considering Stanton is just about the only decent player on their list, doing well against him was a huge result.

Yep, and he's an ideal type for Cook to be matched up on. He's not yet at the "elite" level, and his main weapon is his own workrate. Also, as you say, Stanton is the standout in the Bombers midfield with McVeigh injured, so he sticks out as a tagging target.
It would be another step up again for Cook to run with a Luke Hodge, for instance.

Thought Cook was pretty serviceable, aside from a couple of early turnovers.
Don't think we can guage too much from his performance due to the opposition being a rabble for the last two thirds of the game.
If neither Rocca or Burns come up, then I'd be happy to see Cook go round against a high quality opponent, then we might be better able to judge where he's at.
Hoping he might be able to become a decent tagging/run with type in time.

Looked out of place and slow yesterday.
Still hold high hopes for the kid, but he just isn't ready.
Give him three or foru weeks to get some confidence and form in the 2's, then bring him back.

Cook is good when the opposition is weak. Not up to playing against good teams yet. He has played most of his games against weak opposition. Nothing to get excited about yet. But it will come.
Rate Wellingham and Stanners long before Cooky.

played good just ask yourself will he be in our 22 when we win a flag and be realistic his no midfielder and no backman and the forward line is to congested of players and up coming players i think he will eventually be a iacubucci
Dud.
