I dont like to be too negative but i think he was way off the mark tonight. Needs more time to get bigger and develop..
He was too soft and if not beaten to the ball looked uncomfortable with it..
It costed us at times..

Thoughts??

Relax he's an 18 year old who's played 2 games. Has pace to burn but the bigger Geelong bodies obviously worried him out of a few contests.

He'll learn and be an integral part of our midfield in the years to come.

It's common for a young kid like Hinkley to start off bad in his first year, but still. He looked lost out there at times.

Bring Mayne back in. Or O'Brien.

Hinkley came up against the reigning premiers tonight....
He'll be better for the experience a match like tonight brings
A certain player for the future :thumbsu:

Just can't keep some people happy can we?

I thought he did ok tonight, but we have to accept that at times playing the kids is going to hurt. I was quite impressed with some of his disposal though, a number of people have questioned it and I thought he did ok.

He is not ready for AFL yet. Is not big enough yet and didnt seem to play with any confidence with those handballs when inside 50.

He still looks promising though but shouldnt be back to next year.

He was better than Macca. :(

It looked like he was playing out of full forward which seemed a strange move.

But give him time he'll be a gun.

His performance for you blokes was pretty poor and the speed of the match just looked a bit much for him. Didnt look sure of himself at all when he had it.

But isnt that why you play the youngsters? So they can realize what is required at this level. He will go back and play in the WAFL now but will be all the better after seeing what is required at AFL level.

TOA.

Played out of position.

Hinkley wasn't terrible but we had a lot of skinny bodies out there tonight. Ibbotson, Hinkley, Drum and Thornton all need to find 5-10 kilos.

Exactly the point

Played out of position.

Maybe not, was he dragging somebody down there? I wasn't at the game so it was hard to pick on the TV. He's can play fwd.

In any case, it definitely looked like a case of stage fright and a boy playing a mans game tonight. (BTW, which made Ibbos' game all the more impresive), but he's a talent and he'll be better for it.

It looked to me that he played as a lead up half forward, the same role that he was playing very well for Swan District's prior to his AFL call up.

Hinkley and Drum did look a little easy to push over, but Ibbo I felt held his own, he was good value, especially early in the game. Thornton is not as skinny as you think any more either.

Didn't do a lot, but neither did Ibbotson in his first couple...

i agree , i was saying to mates that i thought macca should come out tonight and brock should come in now he wasn't terrible but a few times in last half he made crucial errors of course as we saw with hincks youngens can make mistakes but think the positives of playing those young ones is well worth it .

True..

He still needs to go back to the wafl though and gain some more confidence..

His pace and ability to run is very exciting but needs to work on a few things to be at the elite level..

Which hopefully will become apparent in the future:thumbsu:

May not be the worst idea.

yep, we have to remember that this is ibbo's 3rd season

hinks has done well just to get a game

in hindsight i would have liked brock in place of hinks though

I'm certainly not saying drop all four, just that it is a lot of players with light frames to have in the one side.

Thornton is not as skinny as you think any more either.

He's got thinner? People are going to start mistaking him for Calista Flockhart if he grows his hair any longer!

I haven't seen any comments from Harvey yet, but he'd have to be pleased with the performance of all of the young guys out there today. Not one of them appeared to be overawed by Geelong or the occasion.

I probably would have left Hinkley out this week and brought him back for the Melbourne game, but I'm really pleased that Harvs has shown the faith in the young guys and they have given him every reason to keep doing so. Bring Mayne in for Hinkley this week if he's fit, otherwise let the kid have another go.

Agree with this :thumbsu: It would be a bit of a confidence sapper for a young kid to be the scapegoat after a game like that. It will be easier for him against Melbourne too and theres so much more upside playing a guy like Hinkley than playing Macca or Schammer.

I thought Schammer was crap again tonight, too many errors and if he doesn't directly turn it over he puts the player who receives the ball under pressure by putting it at his feet etc. Either that or Schammer gets knocked off the ball and sprawls on the ground like an old man getting bowled over by a wave...

Macca was ok but his errors were critical. He should have kicked a goal early and he should have at least scored with that left foot kick he had in the last couple of minutes of the game - which would have meant a draw. He had all the time in the world to kick the thing and it only went 8 metres of something and landed in a geelong players arms! Carp...carp...carp...

It would be way more beneficial to the team to have someone like Brock running around out there.

He tried to outbody Milburn too often in the 4th in the forward line and was playing behind him. Needed to get front position, because rookies rarely outbody experienced campaigners.

All part of the the learning that he'll do in his formative years though. Unfortunate that he'll get scrutinised for it given the circumstances, but he'll be a better player for it.

Billy Bob thornton will never put on weight due to cohn's disease. he's been at the club since 2001 has had heaps of pre season but still skinny

Yea, I agree with you BUT, I thought the same with Ibbotson.
And now look at his(Ibbos) performance tonight. Thats something to build on. Damn, we need that RUN.

Maybe there is something to this "playing them and Developing them" at the possible expense of costly errors.

I thought he was a little quiet and his stats seem to confirm that. He has talent and deserves perseverance with, the demons game could be one that could give him a chance to show his talents more.

I thought he perhaps had an attack of the Ibbos last night. If he improves like Ibbo has we'll be pleased.
