Too many different styles to break it all down, I prefer lists of guitairists with the same type of musical style.

I know this gypsy down the road, who is squatting in a disused garage, who can play better than all of them! :p

Steve Vai at No.10, pretty happy with that.

Where the **** is Dimebag?

That list is a joke if people can list Hammet, Hetfield, Morello and bloody Cobain ahead of him. I'd like to see half that list play alot of the stuff he plays.

And name the last time you saw Hetfield play a solo......think back maybe 1990 for that.

Just goes to show people polls suck ass.

P.S - Santana in there???

Knopfler as far down as 15th is a joke and no George Harrison at all??? Shocker of a list.

Very disappointing! We had this discussion awhile back, but you would think that a guitar mag would have a bit more of a clue than the article in the last thread.

Hendrix & Cobain? pfft.

Kurt Cobain?? Jeez. Top 100 perhaps.

I would've had Steve Clark ahead of him.

Kurt Cobain? I didn't even realise he was a "guitarist". I can't believe he got in ahead of Ritchie Blackmore. Have none of those voters ever heard "Child In Time?"

Great to see Jeff Beck in the list though. He often gets forgotton. I gave "Blow by Blow" a whirl on the weekend, great album. How good is that solo in "Cause we ended as lovers"?

No offence to him, but Kurt Cobain gets voted for basically because he is dead. It's a simple as that and I mean no dis-respect to him.

Hey i'm no expert when it comes to shredders. In fact every since my cat got pregnent after the last time my band mates came over, i just havent really liked guitarists at all! :D

But no Ace Frehley? Thats an outrage! The solo in "Shock Me" is one of the only songs to get me to put my air sticks down and pick up my air guitar, put one foot up on the coffee table and SHRED!

Kurt Cobain in this list, dead or alive, a mockery by the way.

And Jerry Cantrell is a very under-rated guitarist IMO, as is Jeff Buckley. Happy with Slash and Tom Morello. 2 players who actually make me listen to their instrument on their recordings.

How many guitarists does it taketo change a light bulb?

11. 1 to do it, 10 to stand back and say "i could have done it better, faster, with better technique, i would have looked better, worn tighter pants...."

Have you heard the latest theory on Cobain's guitar playing? He was actually right handed, only he didn't know it. ;)

No Di(k Dale. Pretty sad poll. Hendix called him the greatest guitarist he'd seen.

It's quite a good list except for Hammett (he's fast but doesn't have much of a vibrato), Hetfield, and I don't know who Morello is....then again I'm an old fart.

I would have included Petrucci, Blackmore, and Malmsteen, but there are hundreds if not thousands of unknowns out there who'd blow your socks off anyway.

Good to see Brian May up there, thought David Gilmour deserved top five. George Harrison deserved a guernsey. Jimi Hendrix? I know it's considered heresy to say it, but his music bores me senseless.

it's an allright list, but there are some notable absences, and its obviousbly based on the popularity of various bands, without giving thought to the actual skill of the guitarist.

That is what happens when you let a poll open to the public, and not get a select group of musicians to do the job, who actually can past their own personal tastes, and see where skill is.

These days he looks like Neil Young, but still plays like the Rossco of old!

While the lads were mucking about with some well known riffs during the encores, I would have liked to hear a few MANOWAR riffs thrown into the mix, just some of the basic ones like Fighting The World, Hail And Kill, etc... cos I reckon with some of the fancier stuff Andy wouldn't be able to keep up on bass.

Thanks for not getting too "hot under the collar" about this. My point is that for guitarists/musicians generally, there is probably plenty to like about JMH: his use of the "tremelo bar", feedback, etc etc. For those of us (like me) who are not musicians, we cannot appreciate these things and are just left with a handful of rather dated, hippie-sounding songs hard to get excited about.

I think it is stupid to criticize Hendrix to be honest. Hendrix's sound was limited by the fact that he was shredding 35 years ago and did not have the benefits of the technological advances that todays guitarists have.

Hendrix was a revolutionary of his time and changed the way guitar was played for ever after. Yes, his songs sound a bit dated and his guitar could go out of tune, but without him I doubt many of today's guitarists would be doing what they are doing.

He is still a great player in my books.

Francis Vincent Zappa could perhaps consider himself a tad unlucky too ....
