View Full Version : Kick ins: Ours and theirs.
Can someone explain to me why we are persisting with this slow boring and ineffective clump strategy when it is clearly putting the person doing the kickout under pressure due to poor avaliable options and often resulting in a turnover to the other side? Do any other sides in the leauge still do this and do it well?
Can someone please explain to me why we are persisting with this man marking when the opposition gets a kick in and not using a zone like many other sides. We are constantly getting exposed in this method. Do any other sides do this also?
I'm baffled and I feel very sorry for the guys doing the kickouts.

Opposition set up the defensive zone and we don't know what to do and our players don't work hard enough to find space. We couldn't clear their half of the ground for about 5-10 minutes!

If we didn't wait 2mins trying to all gether in the middle the opp wouldn't have enough time to set up the zone.
WE DON'T PRESENT. It's been glaring at us for weeks now and its the same every time we have the ball in the backline. The players just stand there, not offering any kind of lead and it inevitably leads to a turnover 9 times out of 10...

This isn't correct. It's just that because we take so long to group by the time they do present all the areas to run in to are being covered by the opposition zone.
I've watched this last week and this week. You cannot blame the person taking the kick, but you can't blame those doing as they are told and grouping up before they present.
The system is just stupid.

3 or 4 times we had players open for the short kick and instead we'd try and kick long and turn it over.
You do want to kick it long, but only if there is a contest we can win or if somebody is free. Were never going to win a 5-1 contest.

I've been watching kick ins closely all year, and our marking options do NOT present themselves as a serious option to kick to. Hille and Ryder barely get out of a walk, and are therefore never used as options. The same applies every time we take a mark around half back, no one pushes in and out of space on a lead, let alone multiple times (with the exception of McPhee).
I know it makes a difference without Lucas who works harder on the lead than anyone, but it's time for our target players to step up and start pushing themselves.

They fill the corridor forcing us out wide. We sort of huddle then do individual leads instead of a pack lead. With Fletcher the area the opposition have to watch is a lot less as he can bang it to the wing if he plays on a little. We go short then short then short and we are still no where. Our best bet at the moment would be get the thing in a s quick as possible and run before the opposition can get into position.

Im not a fan of what they are trying to do with the kick ins either but i do question why players other than Fletcher seem to kick to the side where it is a one on three contest rather than going to the side where we have at least a three on three
It's pretty bloody hard for the guy kicking it find a target, when all the players are 50m out and standing in the one spot.
This is an area that needs to be addressed quickly and to me it's extremely basic!

i agree, if no one presents then the kick in becomes really challenging... that has been our issue.
