I saw on footy classified that there were uncanny similarities between our leaky defence in 1992 and now the current problem we have in 2008. In 1992 we started the season terribly but bounced back and finished the season with 12 wins. Honestly i don't expect the 08 version to win 8 games little own 12 but i believe we can bounce back. We were forced to blood youngsters much in the same we are now and gave a handful of games to players who would be instrumental to us winning the flag the following season in Hird, Calthorpe, Mercuri, Misiti and this was added with Oralenshaw and Fletcher in 93. Im not expecting us to win the premiership in 2009 but i believe with some of the young talent that we have who have only played a handful of games including Houli, Jetta, Dempsey, Hislop, Neagle, Myers, Daniher and Pears have shown enough to be optimistic that we could a 2nd coming of the baby bombers and perhaps make the final 8 next year. We will surely have to improve massively but it could be achievable.
Prob is... we had a quality coach back then

You cant compare eras. Different coach, different coaching style, different style of footy. Cant be done. Time will tell if all this pain will actually lead us anywhere.

Are you sure they were comparing our defence this year to Essendon's defence in 1992? Are you sure it wasn't another team?
Pretty much allowing Hawthorn to score 32 goals in one of our games in 1992 allowed the average that year to blow out of proportion.

I actually thought this season reminded me a lot of 1933...

I think it is more comparable to Fitzroy. Pretty damn close in fact.

Maybe you should throw a dvd/vhs in sit back and try and relive the good times. Or maybe you can just give the current coach and bit of time to get the list and the side right. Stop livin in the past.....

What I'd do for a young Mercuri...

This side needs to create its own name and history for themselves rather than having the pressure of putting the 1992-3 feats on there shoulders.
They probably won't make the 8 next year, we will be more competative hopefully but any thoughts of a premiership is way off track.
Not suprised Footy Classified came up with it.

That's unfair to Knights. All and sundry knew what Knights was working with pre-season and where we are on the ladder is where all and sundry expected us to be, if not higher!

Surely that would be the third coming after 84-85 were the original 'baby bombers'

Then those baby bombers would have started in 83 because we also played in the grand final.
The problem we had in 1992 was we still had the core of the 85 side, but, 2 of those were in their mid-30s, and a bunch of players who wew recruited post-85 who for one reason or another, weren't doing the job (Plain, Werner, Considine and a few others).
Thbis current side is nothing like of 1992. It's probably more a 1980 type team.
