looks like only IPL for our fringe players next year.

from their i'd imagine it'd be almost straight off to england for the ashes.

They could always skip the SA tour, play a bit of IPL and then be tuned for the real test which is the Ashes. We tend to beat the Saffas blindfolded.

Two month gap from the last one dayer (17 April to 24 June) until the first match in England.....and you'll have a few one day players not in the ashes Tests squad- so they'll surely have six weeks or so to relax at home if that is their desire.

Which side don't we beat blindfolded? India gave a bit of a run....but who else? england once in 20 years.....
Don't see playing IPL getting the players in shape for the Ashes- would be better to have some go over and guest for the counties for a month before the start of the tour and get used to England conditions and grounds.

We're all forgetting we're meant to be playing one half of that Pakistan tour in April next year. Come the Bangladesh Top End ODI Series in late August - Sep this year, they'll be playing solidly all the way through til the end of the Ashes if that Pakistan tour goes ahead.

Not good scheduling by CA at all, a very real possibility the players will be absolutely knackered by the time we arrive in England. Scheduled to arrive there at the end of May, the Twenty20 World Cup in June, then onto the Ashes.
All in all, a shitload of cricket to be played, with not much rest at all.

Well, CA has to work out things around playing all the test nations....

Isn't the Pakistan tour simply a one day gig, with the Tests to be done later? If so, this would be a great opportunity to blood some new ODI players- split the squads for south africa and Pakistan, making sure the main guys you'll want for the Ashes test get a break from months of constant cricket- not that Cricket Australia will do that, but we CAN hope...

Yes it's a one day tour with the test tour scheduled later. We cancelled the previous tour when other countries have been going to Pak. so I suppose we have to wear it.
