Scarlo did us proud in the big V jumper tonight. If there was anyone out there that didnt think he was the best backman in the comp before , sure must know it now . Cam couldnt put a foot right against the great one & thats not putting Moons down , Because Matty is a freak as he shows every week.
Well done to Johnno as well for putting on a show also.

Scarlett was brilliant tonight. Played the same as he would week in week out for Geelong and hardly ever has a bad game which makes him stand out from all other backman.
Also think Stokes went really well too.:thumbsu:
I was proud of the lot of them.
But Scarlo was the best, and Stokes worked his arse off all game. Johnno just did what he does best, and was unlucky to not get/give away some frees.
Overall a fairly lackluster game imo.

Loved Scarlett's cheekiness and arrogance when interviewed the other day (http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2008/05/09/13752_gfc.html):
Scarlett's other possible match-up on the MCG tomorrow night is his Geelong teammate Mooney.
And there's no holding back in his confidence of giving Mooney a touch-up if they are pitted against each other.
"It'll be a little bit strange at the start but once you're out on the ground, I'm playing for Victoria, so if he gets in my way I guess I'll have to take him out. He's not my teammate tomorrow," Scarlett said.
Who's stronger, Scarlett was asked. "Me, for sure."
Who's faster? "Me. I play on him at training all the time and I always towel him up. I tell him, I let him know, he knows."[/B]

Scarlett and Stokes were very good. Kelly tried hard and was very important in that final quarter. Bartel, Johnson and Corey also good in patches. Enright, Chapman and Milburn did their job, but nothing amazing. Mooney continued his rather lackluster form :P
Would have liked to see Jnr running around out there. The sort of game he would turn it up in.

Agreed. Lacked any intensity really.
Thought Kel was pretty good too.
Really happy for Stokes. Some murmuring that he shouldn't be in such exalted company but went about it in a terrific way and worked really hard.

Yep! Thought Scarlo was great last night. How he didn't get a mention in the top 6 best players in "The Age" match report beats me.
Personally, I'm glad it's over and our only injury concern is Dasher having a sore back. Let's get back to the real stuff.

The Vics trailing 22-1, it was Scarlett who got them rolling.
His first 2 possessions from the back half started drives that resulted in shots on goal at the other end.
Scarlett's mark on Motlop in the 1st as well :D I know it was only Motlop but the actual 'manouvre' he used is one that has become synonomous in his game, he's been doing that for years. Great stuff.
Spent time on Pav and Franklin and Motlop, but found himself opposed to Mooney for most of the night, and the Moon dog couldn't get near it. No blight on him though. :thumbsu:

What about Selwood? Another great game from the young gun.
Selwood stepped up in the last 1/4 just like he has been for us.
I'm suprised that the trolls and morons on the main board haven't complained about Scarlett being rested for the last 5 minutes of the game.Onya Geelong coach ....oops,Vic coach ;)

I actually thought he was one of the best defenders on the ground

dash dominated early, one of the leading possesion getters in the first half for the vics...
loved scarlo, and loved stokesy...supporters who dont get to see stokes every week do not realise the impact he has on games...he is all class and a genuine nugget!
and the game wouldnt of been complete without stevie j's easy as u like goal from the boundary in the dying minutes:thumbsu:

Agreed, up till he went off 10 mins into the3rd he and Scarlett were the best 2 defenders on the ground.
Apart for Mooney all the Geelong players did well whilst on the ground.
P.S Apart from a couple of fluffed kicks I thought Kelly was terrific, as was Stokes. :thumbsu:

Agreed. But I think the comments on this thread about Moons are a bit gentle. I was surprised he was selected - had to be on last year than current form. He never looked like having an impact last night. I'm sure he'll turn it around, but definately out of sorts at the moment.
A game against Richmond might be what he needs!

Selection was based mainly on last years form.If they were picking players on 2008 form then Jonathon Brown would never have made the Vic squad of 40.
Great game by all the Geelong boys, and a bit of the Geelong coaching coming in with the 'play on at all costs' style of game.

Just interested to hear you guys thoughts on Foley before the game on the weekend?

Well, I have him in my Super Coach side - if that means anything? :D
I'm a fan of his work. Stood out like dog's bollocks last year for the tigers and seems to be getting more attention this year.
Wouldn't say no to him down at the Cattery. Considering he came off the rookie list (IIRC) he has turned into a top drawer player.

I must say, I thought I saw another string added to Kelly's bow on Sat. night.
I thought he was pretty good off half back.
Obviously it was a different sort of game but I wouldn't mind seeing Kelly go back in a Geelong game to see how he goes (how he'd fit in down back Gary Ablett Snr only knows!!)
As for the topic - to the AA Selectors, just pen Scarlett in at Full Back. The guy is a dead set champ!!

Who knows, media lovechild Glass might play 1-2 rippers and fluke his way into the position undeservingly again. ;)
