Attention Essendon fans, Channel Seven in Melbourne has released its program schedule for next Sunday and the Round 8 clash against Sydney will be shown on a one hour delay in Melbourne, despite it being played at ANZ Stadium.

12:00 SUNDAY AFTERNOON MOVIE (R) 'CC' (2001) HOUNDED
2:00 FOOTY FLASHBACKS 1996 PRELIMINARY FINAL - SYDNEY V ESSENDON
3:00 2008 AFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON RND 8: SYDNEY VS ESSENDON

This is keeping in line with their usual practice of delaying the Sunday 2pm game (usually played at MCG or Telstra Dome) until 3pm so it can lead directly into their 6pm news.

In the past it would have been unthinkable to delay interstate games into Victoria, let's hope that Essendon and footy fans in general can make some noise about this before its too late to be changed.

Absolute shithouse. Screw Footy Flashbacks, we're gonna have 2 losses in a row on Sunday.

There is no excuse for not showing games from interstate live into Melbourne.

It is a disgraceful decision by Channel 7.:thumbsd:

Seven delay Sunday games every week. This news was merely expected. Id taken a look at the fixture and was resigned to the match being telecasted at 3 on Channel Seven. Doesnt make much of a difference really. Watch it an hour later. Turn off mobile. Basically a live game.

Channel 7 should be ashamed.:thumbsd:

Now the delayed version will have twice as many ads. Surely the EFC could do something about this. Don't we have some sort of sponsorship with channel 7?

i'll be contacting the club and seeing if they can get a direct feed.

I say scrap the midday movie, play 2 episodes of footy flashbacks then broadcast the game live from Homebush. It would be much better. Channel 7 would get better ratings. There would be more footy fans watching the footy flashbacks then they would see that the game was live and they would watch that along with Essendon and Sydney fans. Everyone wins except for Essendon...

Hardly a surprise..so much for the AFL's "great" new TV deal. Fox Footy was so much better FFS

But then we would be whingers:rolleyes:

You'd get North fans carrying on about free to air time etc.

It is pathetic but we just have to live with it.

The difference is people in Melbourne can normally rock up and see the 2.10pm Sunday game live in person so the delay isn't a huge issue normally.

In this case it's a bit difficult for Melbourne folk to rock up and see the game live in person when it's being played over 700 kilometres away... So the fact that it won't be live on either free-to-air or pay TV in Melbourne (or the rest of Victoria for that matter) is, in this case, a genuine disgrace :thumbsd:

And I won't see the game at all here in Perth because Fremantle are playing that day (despite their match beginning AFTER the Sydney v Essendon match has finished )

Oh and unless Seven decides to air Friday Night Football 30 minutes early that week the round 10 match between Adelaide and Essendon at Football Park will air on a 30 minute delay into Victoria :thumbsd:

Watching the "field-umpire-cam" during the Tribute match, that jolty, jerky, dizzying footage reminded me of Channel 7's general football camera-work. They really are sh!te. Why would their programming be any different??

12 May 2008, 16:41
This is bullshit, can't they move Footy Flashbacks to after the game?

thebigboy
12 May 2008, 18:10
They only went after the footy rights to try and boost the news on a sunday.

This decision confirms that i think.

OzBomber
12 May 2008, 19:51
Ridiculous. They gonna think that crowd numbers will drop if it's live into Melbourne. Do they expect us to fly up for the game?

My order.

12:00 SUNDAY AFTERNOON MOVIE (R) 'CC' (2001) HOUNDED
2:00 2008 AFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON RND 8: SYDNEY VS ESSENDON

I don't mind for me personally! I'm working till 4 o'clock so I will miss the start of the game. With the delay, at least I will catch the last quarter.

13 May 2008, 14:33
They are absolutely pathetic. The narrative of the game is slightly more predictable. They know when every goal is scored so they can slot in their breaks to suit the program. I myself am frustrated when they don't go to a break because you virtually know there will be another goal or two coming up within a short space of time. The geelong game was so painful you knew more goals were coming, and the way the game was going you knew we weren't going to be kicking them.

Worst football coverage going around.

Thank you i have vented.

I'm a Melbourne based Swans supporter, and just can't believe this. The Midday movie/'96 Prelim ahead of showing a game live? Amazing.

Channel 7 are a disgrace and I wish they'd never got the rights back.

13 May 2008, 17:54
haha.... This is good news for me cause I play footy at 1:00 on Sunday and pretty much finnish at 2:50.

And I only live about 3 minutes from the ground.:D:D

Its still absolute 'Bull' how they Delay interstate footy..

The worst thing about this is they are still going to get the same ratings if not higher then if they showed it live.

Does anyone remember www.savemysport.com.au? It's pretty much a website, or an alliance set up by free to air channels moaning about pay tv taking the rights to games/sport events and not showing them.

I'd rather watch every game on foxtel.

I take it back. Just looked in the guide and Essendon v Sydney is live at 1:30! Hooray! I didnt expect that. There will be some grumpy crows fans who dont have foxtel who will have to wait 4 hours after their game starts to see it at 4:30 after our game in Sydney.
Still, it does happen and I know for a fact that I won't be seeing the Richmond game next week at all. The crows are on at the same time from Perth and it is a Foxtel game so it will be on both free to air and fox. Some agreement they have over here where every Adelaide game must be on free to air. Instead of using common sense and Foxtel arranging to show the other game, we get it on both. Crazy tv rights!!!

Don't want it to be like in England. The cricket is shown on pay tv over there. None of it is on FTA.

Channel Seven pathetically don't have an email address, and their official complaints department only deals with fax or letters.

But anyhoo, if anyone (Bomber fans or not) is annoyed about not getting this game live as it should be, ring their switchboard on:

1.) 03 9697 7777

OR

2.) GO to this page ( http://au.todaytonight.yahoo.com/contact-complaints )

Click on the "complaint" form bit in the text. An Adobe reader complaint form will come up. Print it out on your computer, fill it out and fax it to 03 9697 7676

Number 1.) will annoy them, but it won't register as an official complaint. Number 2.) will only take, like 3-4 minutes, so do it. Might as well make it "official." If you don't have a fax, print it out and fill it in (seriously it will take a couple of minutes) and just fax it when you go to work tomorrow.

At the very least it will annoy them.

Go on, get to it. :thumbsu:

I would've said 3 weeks ago that I'd love every game to be on Foxtel live, but I don't have it anymore. :p

So the Poms get it live, but we don't!?!?!

Move to Tasmania. Southern Cross goes live. Still ridiculous that they delay it, it's not like people are going to go to the game just because they can't wait another hour to watch it on TV - especially when the scores are a mouse-click away.

My mobile didn't show the 'live' scores of the tribute match until it had been started on tv. Then when I checked again it was into the 2nd quarter.

the rising sun hotel in south melbourne would be the best chance. they exhaust all avenues to show sydney live for the old swans supporters. you'd be outnumbered by swans fans there but good chance they will get a live feed somehow.
