View Full Version : Articla on the IPL explans a few mystries of the financial structure
Tries to explain how the IPL is run, financially etc .. Also says that 2 more teams will be added to the IPL. Heard somewhere that a few Australian company's are interested in getting involved as well. Here is a link to the article ... http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2008/05/09/stories/2008050950570900.htm .... thoughts?

One thing I'm curious about - why doesn't Cricket Australia charge the IPL a 'license' fee to use their players?
If they're talking about no salary caps and $15M incomes; then Cricket Australia should be telling the IPL that Cricket Australia requires a 20% premium on top of that to be paid to them, for use of Australian contracted players.
And go further - have State Level contracts viewed as the same.

If they had of done that this year they might have been alright. The Aussies are a big drawcard and most of them have been a success for their teams.
The main problem is the fact that they couldnt get this premium from Warne, McGrath etc... They play a season or two, earn good cash, tell Punter and co "Hey, this shit is ****in easy man, dont play for Australia, play here instead" and we have a World Series like dilemma again.
If IPL and CA stand-off, and there is a choice between Australia or $$$$, there will be quite a lot of defectors, and nearly everyone would leave cricket earlier then they would have intended.

Should open up a window to prevent that from happening

the Australian board would be far too worried this would cause players to just piss off to the IPL and forget about playing for Australia, which a number would do...
Rather than paying the Australian board say 20%, they'd just offer than Australian player an extra 10% to sign on exclusively with the IPL. And they'd have the financialm muscle to do so.
