View Full Version : Hawkins should play in a Fevola role

Watching the game yesterday it is clearly evident that Hawkins needs to develop in the Fevola mould as opposed to the Franklin mould. Fevola with decent service is awesome, Franklin is shite given the opportunities and talent he has. Ignoring the off field issues, Hawkins could be awesome if he played like fev, given the gfc service

I like the Tom Hawkins role.
You know, the pack crashing, pack leaping, pack one handers....... it all sounds good.

Ps, Franklin shite....i hope the hawks supporters don't see this. Moderators, get your red cards ready!

generally if you looked at fev he was dominant, and i believe hawkins can play a similar role. given the opportunities he does real well

as for franklin, much like kouta, very over rated in my opinion, don't get me wrong vgoog players, but you always feel that they are not going at 100%, and given their talent should rip a game apart, kouta was until first bad injury

If you mean take a mark within 50m and kick a goal, yeah sure he should do that.

Observing the game vs Freo, one of the commentators stated something which I totally agreed with.

Last year Hawkins would take his time and kick for goal even if on the 50m arc. This year he panicks and doesn't go back far enough, therefore looks to pass off all the time.

He needs an older head to go over to him and tell the lad to settle and kick for goal, that is his role.

Looking back at all the games on DVD, when he has taken a mark on or thereabouts of the 50m arc he has looked to pass off, which he has then kicked to a difficult situation where we lost the ball and it rebounded quite fast.

Giving the ball up for a 'team' focus is great when it works, however when every time he has done this it has never come off.

Tom, just kick it big guy, don't square it up, just slot it through. Slow and measured, that is the best option.

If that is like Fev did the other night, then I agree.

thegerman has it absolutely spot on. Go back, relax and kick the goal just like Fev does. Hawkins is a good strong kick and should back himself more from around the 50 metre mark. Fev does it and does it beautifully so the Tomahawk can too.

You have got to be kidding me. Fev did well and has some great attributes but stay at home type forwards are not consistently effective and it is too easy for back lines to take them out of the play or deny them the ball. I have been thrilled with Hawkins willingness to work hard up the ground and present as a target.

In terms of his kicking he does need to show more confidence and relax but in a team like ours I would not want him marking on 50 just inside the boundary line and turning his back on the play like Fev does. He is young and just trying to fit in to the unselfish nature of our team that has served us so well. He will work out when to pass and when to settle. Should not be compared to a genuine FF like Fev who is 27 and rarely had anything worth passing to.

Hawkins should play like J Brown :thumbsu: Not quick but can run through a brick wall. He can easily kick 50m goals, he just needs to settle down and have confidence in himself.

Hawkins will be his own type of freak

Then people will say about other forwards: "that guy should play more like Hawkins"

Please cut out the comparisons (Hawkins like Fev, Franklin shite considering his talent), you're just embarrassing yourself.

The Tomahawk just needs to relax and kick goals. The word Stokesy had with him has made him way too sharing in the forwardline.

Kick the goals mate, that's what you're there for.

Hi gentlemen can you tell me who T Hawkins father is? Is it Robb who also played for South Adelaide in the SANFL? Sorry but I realise he was a father son selection but not sure of the history, cheers.

Tom Hawkins, son of Jack Hawkins.

I'm sure Bomber T has had a word to Tom about the way he plays, and is either happy with what Tom has shown so far...or has shown signs he's doing the right thing.

If that's not the case, then I think Tomahawk should play like Linga and win 20 out of the next 21 games.

No way do you want Tommahawk to develop into a lead from the goal square FF like Fevola. As good as Fevola can be, it makes the team too one dimentional. Hawkins is being groomed to replace Mooney in a couple of years as a roaming CH/FF power forward in the mould of a J.Brown, B.Hall or Tredrea at their peaks. We can use a Gamble, N.Ablett (if he comes back) or someone else to rotate as the FF.

The problem with Tom not kicking for goal more often is that he is playing exactly to team orders. The fact that his preference to find a teammate closer to goal than have a shot has increased since the start of the year suggests the coaching staff aren't as frustrated with his refusal to shoot for goal as us supporters are.

Three ruckmen in the same team? Are you saying that Blake would be so hard to replace, they would need two players to do it properly? :p Or by Mummy Simpson, do you mean Dawson's mum would be getting a game before he does?

no, given they could play around the ground, we could play 3 rucks

west could play in key posies, and could be moulded into a goodes role
