View Full Version : MCC Membership
I just read about MCC Membership and their ridiculous 20 year waiting period for new members. Considering that I'm 30 this year and in 20 years time, I'd be closer to retirement, more financially solvent and can actually afford their yearly membership fees of ~ A$550.
I'd like to get Membership there so I can watch Collingwood with the wife in some posh Balcony seats. The application fee of A$55 I can afford now but I need 2 FULL member nominators. Any of you in the house who can help??

Yep. Not sure of the logistics though, as I've never nominated anyone before.

It's worth becoming an MCC memeber just for the full strength beer.

Become a social club member and get it too. And I should imagine the club benefits more from having social club members.
The only downside is, probably with both memberships, is that your mates dont have the access you do.
Or can you get guests into the MCC area? I know you have to pay to get people into the social club bar. Pfft.

Or can you get guests into the MCC area? .
Guest passes are for sale every week (except finals and certainly not the GF). They sometimes sell out. Guests have access to about 80% of the MCC area - some areas are Members only, and only limited numbers of guests with a pavilion pass are allowed in.
Yep. Not sure of the logistics though, as I've never nominated anyone before.

I have a question about membership also.
My partner was on the waiting list for ages, and was offered a junior membership in 1998. The same week, his father was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and they subsequently forgot all about the MCC.
I just rang the membership department, and they said he would have to submit in writing to the MCC comitee the reason why he didn't take up the membership. They will then assess the case, and possibly offer him a membership, and decide how much he needs to pay in back-fees.
Has anyone been through this before? Do you think the excuse is "good" enough?
cheers

I'm only guessing but I'm sure the MCC will be able to show some compassion here, but ten years is a very long time.
I very much doubt they'd ask for much or any any backdated fees - you'd be paying $5000 for nothing - , but maybe considering the circumstances they might do something like put your partner back on the waiting list at or near the front of the queue.
Good luck.
The receptionist said they would ask for some fees backdated, but she had no idea how much. Hopefully that means not the full amount.
cheers :D

If my mates aren't sitting in the MCC, I get a pass-out to sit with friends in other areas. It's a bit lame, but not terrible. My brother is a member too, but he lives in Finland these days and so obviously doesn't get to too many games. :(

My Dad had me nominated when I was 2 months old. It's expensive to keep up each year, but I sure do appreciate having it.

Trust me it's not overrated, worth every penny if you go to the footy and the cricket regularly.
I got put on the list at 1 1/2, if you're older than 15 by the time you get the offer then you get royally screwed when it comes to being offered full membership, nearly 22 now and still not a full member when all my mates are, but that's life, the beer still tastes good!
Yep. Not sure of the logistics though, as I've never nominated anyone before.
Sent you a PM. Hopefully, you'll be willing to help... .:)
Still need one more nominator *sniff*
Anyone?
I know this is an old thread but I recently did the tour of the MCG which was brilliant. I'd love to apply for a membership for my 6 month old grandaughter but like the OP I don't know any members to propose & second my form.
If anyone can help please pm me.
Also if any of you are thinking of going on the MCG tour given by the volunteers then go for it, it was the best $20 I spent in a long time. :thumbsu:

ScottyD, you really are going to have to ease up the entry restrictions on the Marty Clarke Club. People are getting desperate!

I've sat in the MCC members once.
My friend's uncle is the head of something at the MCG + he can get us free tickets there ;)
I prefer the bogans of general admission
