and ablett junior looks like he is about to go to the next level

Taylor is playing instead of Egan.

No way Moons should ever play anywhere but CHF/FF. His move to the forward line was probably one of the few positive things to come out of the disaster that was '06.

And as the above poster wrote, we have Harry Taylor (and Lonergan).

But, I for one would love to have Nath back, he has natural talent like few others.

It seems everyone is worries re the egan situation. We seem short of one backman if something goes amiss. However i have told anyone who cares to listen that nathan is missing the game, and will be back and playing seniors before years end. That would mean than moons could play down back if required, with the rucks resting in the forward line.

Mummy looks like he is capable, and so too is Ottens. The situation is such that we have a number more options than we think. And Egan was not rated as highly until last year, so sometimes things just pop up out of left field.

Further i have said for the last year west is too little to ruck, and needs to hold a key posi. So there are a number of avenues that the club can go along. Maybe if everyone stopped focusing on prismall and blake they could see the lateral moves that are possible.

This is forrrest, and this is my say.

So you're putting silly useless topics on this board?

Bomber stated that Nathan would not be back playing seniors this year nor should he. If he wanted to return year it would be playing in the VFL side only. Would think this highly unlikely anyway.

Cam Mooney wasnt much in '06 in the forward line. He was just angry. Does anyone remember when his career was on the line back in 05 or so, and he was the loose man in defence for a fair bit of the year? He played well as far as I can remember. He even rucked a bit, just to get into the game.

If Cams form does not improve, I would want to Thompson to get him into the game.. throw him on the wing... Im not saying a career change.. Just for a half of footy.

Agreed. He may need something to freshen him up and find some form.

I think people are over reacting to Moons form... He has had the yips in front of goal and looking to give off more than he should but he hasn't been terrible... We've got a stack of players not yet at 2007 heights, but throwing the side around can cost us the opportunity to develop players for where we need them or potentially need them at the important end of the season... Personally I think Mooney is the key to our structure up forward and when the delivery improves (because it's been shocking!!) we'll see more marks and more shots on goal within the corridor...

Now is the time to get miles and experience into Taylor, Mummy, Gamble etc and see who is a genuine option at the pointy end of the season...

I tend to think of the Eagles game in 2006 as a prime example of how important Mooney is to our forward line. He started at CHF, was on fire early, and we were leading by 9 goals just after half time when Harley went down with a shoulder injury. Bomber moved Moons from CHF to CHB, and we lost our focal point in the forward line, and lost all semblance of purpose when moving forward. The resultant hesitation led to us making turnover after turnover which allowed the Eagles to get back into the game, and ultimately win.

Although Mooney isn't exactly setting the world on fire at the moment, most of the time at the very least he creates an opportunity for the likes of SJ and Stokes to crumb a few goals. Would be ludicrous to suggest moving Moons away from the forward line.

Ah yes, I remember that day vividly. One of the most obvious game turners I have ever seen. As soon as Mooney had to go down back, the game shifted completely.

they were not as capable as yourself sir, they lacked the intellect that mods like you do possess

but those mods were happy for me to post over 1000 posts a month, and have this site have record high hits

and the hawk trolls are exceptionally harsh on reality

but i appreciate your understanding, and skill set

AS has been said, Mooney is crucial for us up forward, even if he's not in form.
Not only does he provide a contest for the crumbers, his experience and knowledge of forward set-ups is essential for us.
That's why things were working so well with Nathan last year, because they had played together for a couple of years, and Nathan had teachablility as well as natural talent.
Now that Tomahawk has come in, they're less in synch. However this will improve over time.
If we send Moons back to the backline, and leave Nathan and Tomahawk up there, the structure of the forward line (in terms of where to be, where to lead and when etc), would go out of whack entirely.
Moons is the director of our forward line... we can't take him out of that role (until Hawkins or Ablett are ready to step into that role).

Early on in '06 he'd only play up forward in bursts, although when there he did well - eg. the final quarter of the pre-season GF where he kicked three goals, versus Sydney in Sydney where he took a few marks and set up Charlie Gardiner for a couple of goals.. then from the disastrous West Coast game onwards he played at CHF and apart from his suspensions he was very good.

In fairness to FG the moderation on Bay 13 is inconsistent and rubbish (not too much unlike the main forum though I guess). Is why I no longer bother with the place.
