Is Joel Bowden Gone!!! At times today looked slow and a bit lost??
I do not like abusing our own players anymore, but yes I hope so.

thought he did well enough to keep his spot. Not breath-taking but well enough.

That is not good enough for a senior player. Even after hearing of his amazing efforts at Coburg, he is not good enough to win us a premiership.
I am disappointed with him, I was once a big big fan.

He is S. T. Ruggling!
Although, he had plenty of mates today. Definately wasn't our worst.

been a good player in years gone by, but the tigers have taken it to the next levell & that levell doesnt include joel any longer.
hopefully we can get some trade value for him, woul have to be a club that is prepared to top up their list...... hopefully its freo in exchange for warnock.

idiot, bowden wasnt too bad, definately he was one of the better forwards/only play reasonably well. the others were aweful.

I think you should watch the replay again. He was OK, but he is not going to win us a premiership.
I respect the man, But I have to say he worked much better when his brother was in the squad :o
I can think of a dozen blokes I'd drop before him. One Chris Hyde for starters. His tagging job on Ablett was non-existent.

Get off his case. Bowden was fine. FFS, any player that gets old we wanna shoot them off into retirement unless they're Richo. Anyone heard of experience? Leadership? Premierships are never won without them. Joel has them.

The fact is the tigers played much better football without him. I hope he can become as much of a massive aspect of the tigers team as he used to be, I really do, but he has let me down.

stop trying to attribute the loss to bowden. they never had the midfield dominance today so forwards were starved. he had a few good touches that resulted in goals as well as a few that should have been kicked, and kicking a few himself, what more do you want?

You misread my comment. He has leadership and experience, which helps win premierships. And yeah he does have leadership. Noticed how whenever all the young folk are panicing and making poor options in a tight game, he'll take the ball, hold it up and take control of the play. The other fellas recognise this and calm down. He has their respect.

I am not trying to. It was not completely his fault. But a senior member of a side should step up in these conditions, especially when we are up at half time. He did not really do much after half time, and as this post is titled "Is Joel Bowden GOOOOONE!!!" I am giving my opinion on Joel Bowden. There were a number of players that went missing today, he was one of them.

i thought he added some composure and showed he has got footy smarts on his side. i think he will / should get a game next week also - but i think its either forward or nothing now for him. our backline is "settled" and now needs to develop some much needed chemistry, and i think his lack of pace makes him easy to exploit back there
up forward though i think he can be handy in helping to create space by using his ability to read the play, and is also good at getting his opponent out of position. he is also more than useful pushing up the ground when help is needed in the middle of the ground - and does has the maturity to pick those moments when appropriate.
dont think he will get a lot of possessions, but he is capable of a goal a two a game, perhaps 2 direct "assists" a game and a few indirect assits a game WHEN HE IS ON HIS GAME.
his challenge is now to be on his game week in, week out - and not get bored - which i think he does way to easily and often - time will tell

Im just not sure what he has to do to keep the doubters down. He played in the forward line, he worked hard to keep the ball in. Alot of the time the ball was not delivered to him well at all. He could have had 4 today.
People criticised him for not doing the team thing ...For racking up his own possessions and be up himself
He kicked two himself today... but importantly he should have been responsible for three more
First qtr deep against the boundary outnumbered by 3 guys he smacked it back into the corridor between three guys legs for a delido goal.
He gave cotchin a gimme that he missed.
He took a mark within kicking distance inside 50 and gave it to tambling as he ran past.
All these things people have criticised him for not doing. So he goes out there and does the team things people laud other players for an now he's gone because he wasnt individually brilliant
Which is it you bunch of "supporters " want ? Team man or individual brilliance. Seems to me no matter what the guy does theres a whole bunch of guys here willing to highlight nothing but his negatives.

What about the last 10 years to slow plays around with the ball thinks he is above everyone on the ground I am talking about not up to it.

I want the Joel Bowden back that did not turn the ball over twice before he had his one moment of glory. He was a star, I looked to him in the back line when the ball was there, He was fantastic. These days if it is not wayward kicking out it is woeful kicking, and people running him down.
He does do some good things, and he is a good influence on the kids, but he needs to get his basic football skills up again, because I see his career getting ugly.

I would not judge JB on his performance today (although I didn't think he was that bad), I have never seen him play a good game in the wet, he has always found it hard going on wet days so to put it inot context I think today he played one of his better wet weather games and it was in a position that he has not played in for a long time.

This thread is a joke
Bowden kicked two goals playing on Mathew Scarlett as a decoy foward most of the game. He also set up a goal with a handy tap on and gave Cotchin and Tambling shots from inside 20m on a silver plater, which they both ____ed up.
Was servicable if not handy today. Looked alot more likely then any of our fowards

Oh come on. Every time a Richmond player went near Ablett yesterday no less than 2-3 Cats players ran in for a block...
NOBODY gets near Ablett, Cats players are clearly told to always give off to him and block at every opportunity.
NO Tiger player was able to get a sniff near him yesterday because of that so cut Chris Hyde some slack in that area!

Would agree with that!
Will definately play next week. I think he'll play the rest of the year barring injury.
I still believe he should play defense. He was our general down there with all those young players we have there in Thursfield, King, McGuane and Moore.

The Bowden bashers refuse to acknowledge the positive. But for a few missed opportunities by the beneficiaries of his good work he basically would have had a hand in almost half our score. Wonder if we would have won the Bulldogs and Saints games had he played - we'll never know. Of course the naysayers will claim we were only competitive because Joel was dropped but.....

And there is the problem with our fans. They have their eyes shut when Bowden does something good.

Agree^^
bowden played a defensive forward 50 role kicked a couple of great goals and directly set up what could of been 4 or 5 goals had those players kicked straight.
Those bagging him and hyde probably didnt even watch the game and just compared their stats to gablett. get a clue.
I hope there are no changes to the team that will line up against the bummers.

WHAT THE F***...HOW CAN YOU SAY HYDE DESERVES TO BE DROPPED. Gary Ablett is just a champ and the only way to keep him quiet is to play dirty tactics with him which is what Crowley at Freo did which kept him out of it. Hyde is a genuine tagger who deserves his spot...in previous weeks he has done great jobs on Montagna and other top class players....the fact is that Gary Ablett is a superstar and one who is unstoppable without dirty tactics. As for JB he is in the side for help to the younger less experience kids and if he can kick 2-3 goals a game thats contributing enough for the team and that is all that is needed from him from now on.

In Bowden's defence he was getting better delivery at Coburg. This week we get the chance to play a side we're bigger than. Not saying we're full of Michael Voss types but in football - size helps! Put Tivers in (he was in best again in VFL), Give Pettifer the square, Tucky, Johnson, Richo in the guts! Whoever they put in the goal square - give them space!!!!! Could be Brown, could be Cotchin, could be Polak, whoever, give them room!!!!!
