We lost Sampi and Wirra is will retire after this year

Kerr plays like a white guy!!....

The Kangaroos and Port's Indigenous players really hurt us with speed and fleet of foot

they do the mecurial....we are the most predictable footy side in the comp

Our players dont do the unpredictable

Kerr isn't even aboriginal for a start.

Secondly, we draft according to our needs and best available talent. The day you start targetting indigenous players specifically is the day you end up being like Essendon.

Oh FFS

Players don't have to be indigenous to be creative.

Lewis and Ugle before him are about the only aboriginal players I recall us having that have done well. And during our success we've been in bad positions to draft these type of players. Also we did have two freaks in our midfield that meant that crumbing in and under forward wasn't needed as much.

I look at a Wonamiri from Melbourne...they just are creative...I actually belive you need a few like that in your side

you cant argue that we are the most predictable side ever...even when we won we were very predictable

Anyway I wouldn't mind an Andrew Lovett in our forward line..

lovett wouldn't be bad, but is probably too old for what we are looking at. Gartlett should be avialable in the 3rd round and would be very nice. Typically, Indigenous crumbing specialists tend to be far more ready to play in the big league than KP players, so Gartlett should be ready round 1 (ala c.rioli). Would love to be able to get yarran also and put him in the akermanis/cousins role of midfield/forward flank. It's not about us not having indegenous players, its about us lacking pace and a crumber (which indigenous players tend to be).

With quotes like these, you really have to ask yourself "is it really worth giving a considered answer?".

Last night I thought our forward line looked the best it has for a very long time. Kennedy was terrific with his marking and distribution and Lynch and McKinley were presenting up nicely. The one weakness that stood out to me, was watching the big fellas chase their opponents when Kanga defenders got hold of it. Our blokes held their own and tried reasonably hard, but the Kanga defenders were never in any real danger of being run down, like Sampi and Phil Matera used to do a few times a game. Running down the defenders from behind really seemed to lift our team and make our opponents second guess themselves when they had the ball.

I'd love to see us pick up a small forward who reads the play well and has lots of pace. Aboriginal or not.

Ok what I mean!! for those whio cant analyse something simple

Kerr plays conested footy..hes an "inside" player...we need a creative half fwd type...yes we have lecca but Lecca is really a leading fwd who just happens to be small

we also need some players who dont do the conventional thing everytime they get it

We have a heap of inside players...we have very few outiside players..aboriginal players are great "outside" players

Just like Caucasians, aboriginals have just as many duds as stars. I certainly wouldn't want an Andy Krakour, Shannon Motlop, Marty McGrath, Ashley Sampi, Keren Ugle etc etc

You don't have to be indigenous to have a licence to be mecurial, exciting and possess an uncanny goalsense. Alan Didak, Peter Daicos, I go on.

Small men in general have hurt us more than the big boofheads. It is an endurance game. Produce a good 4 quarter effort and you are a chance, against any opposition.

We drafted Thomas who played a year in the SANFL seniors and Campbell from the QAFL who also played his last year in the seniors. We were sadly lacking in the small crumbing type forwards who could also rotate in the midfield.

One was a rookie and the other a late round pick so you can experiment a bit with getting a bit more flair in the side without investing heavily. We wanted to know that the ones we took wouldn't have any issues playing against big mature body size players and I think it has worked well for us. They give us a lot of spark up forward which has been missing prior to 2007.

I'm almost entirely sure that Kerr has -no- aboriginal blood in him at all. We need some quick, outside finishers. I don't care if they are white, indigenous, asian, african, anything, as long as they fit in with what we need.

I may be wrong Trumby, but I think people are referring to Jeff Garlett, wingman in Swans league team.

Not sure many, barring a few obsessed ones, know about Clinton, who I presume, is the AIS scholarship holder from Swannies you are referring to?

TOA.
18 May 2008, 23:50
We need a natural crumber. Dont care what colour his skin is. It just so happens that aboriginal blokes have a certain creative spark and feel for the game which is so critical to that role. Some white guys have it but harder to find in them.

Lecca and McKinley are not crumbers.

i gather that he is already planning his foray in to politics. Perhaps Australia's first indigenous prime minister? He has been great this year and if he was up for another year we could hardly say no. Would love to get him onboard as a youth or defence coach after retirement as his onfield and off-field characteristics are a shining example for young kids (especially Vics as he could show them how he got over his homesickness) and you would be hard pressed to find a nicer bloke.
