He is a great player and all but today i relised how much blocking his teamates give him.Example when Milburn nearly closelined Hyde to put a block on him.
Thoughts?

I have never seen a team work so hard to protect and keep a teammate in the game as those Cats do for Gary. He would only have 20 touches a game if it wasnt for those blocks they were doing so he could handball recieve just amazing.
Why did we kick to one on ones between him and Hyde i have no idea.

I too have noticed it, but it's the best way to break the tag. Taggers get away with a lot so the teammates have to back their stars. I think it's great that the team does that for him.
I bet Foley would have loved that level of protection from Ling today...
And people criticise Lids for not breaking tags. You dont see Johnson or Tuck blocking at clearances

This is all a bit silly...just like the continious threads the bag Franklin for being a bad contested mark, poor kick at goal etc etc...
Ablett is a brilliant player, he has been hard tagged in pretty much every game he has played since his 2nd season. If you used the ball as well as he did, then of course your team mates would want you to get it. I would suggest before you over analyse the number of blocks he receives that you look at the constant rotation of taggers that try to impede his run at the ball. Many teams have a player 5m in front of him, plus play a man scragging from behind...in most cases Ablett wins out.
Foley is a good player, he played a great State of Origin, and yes he would have a better level of protection in a better team, however if he was surrounded by the level of stars in Geelongs midfield he might even get less possies as he would no longer be the go to man.

Theres the answer. He has great skills so the more they are used the greater chance the team has in scoring. Its a team game and if that means some players have to give up getting possie's themselves for the good of the team then so be it. The coasters did it with judd for 4 years and it worked a treat.

Have you noticed how hard he gets tagged?
Hell there were periods in that game where you blokes had 2-3 players all over him when he went near the ball, no wonder he needs protection.
He also averages 13 hardball gets a game & 5 Clearances, which is usually in heavy traffic & when he isn't getting protection.

I went to the game yesterday and sure did notice the blocks Ablett gets. Hyde never stood a chance as he kept running into big Cat blocks.
That's why Geelong are the best team. They do all the right things.
And Ablett is a superstar - the best midfielder in the league, and maybe best player....genuine superstar and practically unstoppable even with a heavy tag.
After Hyde failed, I would have liked to see Delidio given the job. Or Matty White. Even Jackson if he had been playing.
We aren't bagging the Cats for those Geelong supporters reading this. Its why you are so good, you do the team things.
Hyde was never going to stop Ablett as any other player in the AFL. This is why I don't understand Richmond supporters asking for Hyde to be dropped, he couldn't do much more.

Exactly right. Richmond supporters shouldn't be hard on Hyde, as only once in his last 15-20 games Ablett has been succesfully shut down, and that was a few weeks ago against Crowley.

I don't know why but the combination of the terms 'Richmond' and 'Gary Ablett' have always brought a smile to my face.
I think the key to beating gary ablett lies in an anagram of 'Richmond' and 'Gary Ablett' - 'rid thy bloc great man'

You've got a few premierships to go before you can come on here and poke fun.
So put your teeth back in and go back to churning a crank on the ford assembly line

Its not a comment about players blocking for Ablett.
Its a comment about how our players dont

We'll see how he goes against the Hawks.
Our lads are still learning the caper this year.
