With some of our bigger names getting older and sadly they wont be around forever :( how do we think our younger boys are going to do? Will they develop into a solid team like the one that won us the 05 granny? Will we have a leadership ground of players like our Kirks and Barrys?
after watching the 1st 8 rounds of the 08 season i am LOVING the fine form of our younger boys i finding myself loving every moment someone like Moore, Jack, Bird, White etc get the ball and watching them have a strong go at it. And im sure we will see some more ressie boys make their way up aswell!
But im interested in hearing what other people think...will they live up to a top team* we have now?
*top team being over the last few years

To be true, I know we will struggle in the post-Kirk/Barry/Hally/MickyO era, but in saying that, we will also have seasoned seniors in Goodes, O'Keefe, Bolts, Teddy, His Hackness, Jolly to guide whichever team we field.
I always thought our talent was running/already was thin, but whoever thought an O'Keefe to come out of nowhere. Nobody saw a dual-Brownlow medallist in Goodsey, or thought Kirk worthy of a Main Draft Selection.
Talent will come and go at the club, but the cream will always rise to the top, no matter how or what comp. we play in.

I'm much more confident about our current situation than the depths of horrors Eade left us in 2002 our list was 10x worse and to be honest i thought we were gonna be like the early/mid 90's :( I mean who would of thought we could cover the retirements of Lockett, Kelly, Dunkley, Schwass, Creswell, Maxwell and im sure i have forgotten others as well.
I love our always win mentality we are never a side that bottoms out and needs draft picks, we rarely get flogged i couldn't be happier with the way our team is going atm.

We're doing great in terms of youngsters, I think!
We aren't struggling anywhere near as much as most people tipped us to!
The mix of the older, more experienced players and our youngsters who have proven themselves very reliable should see us secure a Top 8 position!
+ We still have Schmidt and Barlow to play some more games! I wanna see more Schmidt!
A lot of it's driven by Paul Roos' style as a coach and the (hatetousetheterm) culture at the club.
Cheer cheer!
Im reasonably happy with how our list is progressing BUT if Paul Roos doesnt draft a tall forward or 2 in the next draft then the Swans will be in trouble. Finding replacements for Hall and O'Loughlin should be Paul Roos's top priority as i think our defence and midfield in afew years time will still be reasonably strong but our Forward line in afew years will be piss weak without replacements for Hall and O'Loughlin.
Every young player in the system has been instilled with the notion of how to play hard, team based football. And noting the ease with which players like Bird and Jack have slotted into the senior list, clearly our program is working a treat.
Will we win a Premiership the year Kirk, Leo, MOL, Hall, Tiger, Fosdike retire? No. But will we have a competitve unit that is prepared to work as we rebuild? Damn right we will. :thumbsu:

Just thinking we are reknowed for drafting Forwards from other clubs and turning them into champions as was the case with Hall, i reckon we should try to lure Fevola or even Brown if he wants to come to Sydney that's about the only 2 star forwards out of contract at year's end i can think of.

IMO Have a go at Kozi
IMO Have a go at Kozi
We are trying to improve our forward line with young and telented forwards. Koschitzke doesnt really fall into either category.
What the Swans need in afew years time is a Big Forward who can average over 3 (preferably 4) goals a game. If we dont get that kind of Forward then we will be in serious trouble.

Kozi has at time shown that he would be more than handy. Injury has plagued him though, that would be the main concern. Raiding the saint for another player to turn into gun forward, I would be more than happy with that.....:D
R.Lyon does owe us something back now......:thumbsu:

The best thing about Bird and Jack is that they are both players from NSW. Wouldn't be great to find a tall from NSW, a kid that could actually play with a football background not a basketballer or volleyballer.

Personally, I'd love to see Kozi in the red and white. Reckon he'd fit in just fine........

won't happen
and neither will any pursuit of fev or j brown
i think we've exhausted our strategy of recruiting top forwards from other clubs, but right now i really don't think we need to
playfair is 25, and showed enough yesterday to suggest he's got lots of time, and he'll improve even further
we've got jesse white, who i still believe is the man we should build our future (post-hall) forward line around
target some taller forwards in the next couple of drafts
and we can even look at using goodes as a key marking forward as he gets a bit older
bring on dan currie as back-up to jolly, or maybe jake the caravan will develop
i just don't think it's time to get too worried yet

When Mickey o retires,id like the club to employ him as a scout for indiginous
talent,it could really pay off.
