Then there's the ruck pair of David Hille and Jason Laycock. It amazes me that Hawthorn's Robert Campbell and Simon Taylor are a far more competitive and consistent combination than the Essendon pair, yet it's fact.

For someone who supposedly knows his stuff about footy, that comment just reeks of stupidity and ignorance. :thumbsd:

Our ruckmen are doing just fine. The coach knows it and thats all that matters.
They aren't the most talked about names but they get the job done week in week out.

why? I think he is just trying to say that the Bombers pair had bigger wraps on them and have more experience therefore he would expect them to perform better.

I dont think it is that outlandish a statement. At the start of the year many may have agreed, now, not so much.

Dont take everything so personally!

Agree, Hille and Laycock have been talked up for years that they will be an outstanding ruck duo, Bob and Tails were a rookie elevation and pick 53 and no one expected them to be anything.

Sheahan is right our guys are out performing the Essendon pair who are much more hyped than our boys. I think it is a real pat on the back for both Bob and Tails.

David Hille Pick #40 - 1999 Draft
Jason Laycock #10 - 2002 Draft

Robbie Campbell #27 - 2000 Rookie Draft
Simon Taylor #53 - 2004 Draft

Our boys are lower picks and younger than the Essendon pair.

A few years ago, I would have expected the Essendon duo to outperform our pair as well. They may well do so in the future, but for the moment our boys are ahead. Don't forget that often ruckmen are judged by the quality of the midfielders around them.

I don't think it is so controversial or one-sided a statement for Sheahan. In fact, I think he is an interesting read most of the time and gets criticised by footy fans unfairly and excessively. He is a football writer who is overrated by his regular readers and underrated by his regular critics.

Sheehan is a moronic hype follower! He thinks that just because Bob and Tails were low picks no one respects them other than those who know them. This is more proof that Sheehan doesn't really watch players he just writes about them.

The man is a spud, and has the mental capacity of a cow, I expect no less from his 3rd rate journalism.

Geez - it's a complement! The Essendon pair were written up as the second coming a couple of years ago, they've come to nothing and Sheahan is impressed by how the Hawk duo have quietly achieved.

Hawks fans have become so used to the team being bagged by the press, they don't recognise praise when they see it.

Our boys are getting the job done , Campbell had a blinder on the weekend and has looked great when playing across half back .
And with big wraps on Bailey our rucks can only get better

Stupid reaction from some fans here, Sheahan is actually saying they play well. Sure it may suggest he expects them to be crap but i guess now you know what it is like reading article about North if you barrack for them, good ole shinboner spirit

HE onyl ever writes what other guys on the couch say... 2 weeks ago on the couch HEaly said that the Hawks pair are highly underrated, Shehan says "never tought about that, good point"

I cant believe Laycock still plays? A good mark but after that your struggeling to think of a plus in his game. I rather let a legless midget join our ruck combo then Laycock. Replace "Lay" with "Soft" and you would have a well named player.

I hate to go against the Hawks supporters here but i agree totally with what 'eros' is saying!
Sheahan is not insulting the Hawks ruckman, he's saying he's impressed that such a no-name pairing like Robbie and Tails are outperforming a well-known combination like Hille and Laycock.

The less acknowledgment our rucks get from the wider AFL community the better it is for, let them underestiamte those 2, they'll get whats coming to them :D

If you took the comment in context... its a complement.

People seem desperate to get angry about things these days.

I think most people read it as such.

So correct. Come over to the cats board, I cant believe how angry (and whiny) people can be with a premiership under our belt and having a 26-27 record across the last year.

Ahhh... No! I do realise he is saying they are playing well. But the fact that he only rates them now that we are playing well is insulting to them. Last year both were very serviceable and better ruckman than both Laycock and Hille.

Sheehan is 12 months behind what is actually happening in football, just look at his top 50's when they come out!

No, Hille was better than both.

Watch the replay of the Hawks Vs Port game, and watch Campbell and then come back

Watch the replay of the Hawks Vs Port game, and watch Campbell and then come back - thats only one game chief, with that rational watch Abletts game v Sydney this year, could make him the best player EVER!!!!

Seriously though. Most on your board would admit that coming into this year the Essendon rucks were ranked higher. But that is the beauty of sport, the start of the season is not often a reflection of the end!

Robbie Campbell deserves all the credit that comes his way, he is not the most skilled or a natural athlete but he always gives 110% and he is now earning the praise he deserves.

However what is all the hipe about Simon Taylor, the bloke is useless and the sooner Renouf or Bailey are in the team the better. When ever Simon is in the ruck we look a weaker team. He gives a ridiculous amount of free kicks away, not only in ruck contest when 7/10 times he jumps way to early, but the amount of times he is caught holding the ball is a joke. He is 4th overall in the competition for total free kicks againt this year with 17 and was 3rd overall last year with 43.

When he gets the ball which is rare, 20 kicks and 20 marks this year from all 8 games, he more often then not turns the ball over. I hate the ball in his hands i just close my eyes and hope for the best. Get him out now.

I hear what you are saying Scotty, but I wouldn't have rated the Essendon pair higher than our rucks.
