Me and my old man disagree on Ben McGlyn. With the pies sheer lack of inside ball winner my old man thinks that he is the sort of player we need. I think McGlyn's strengths are his endurance and running and that he is too small to be effective in and under the packs at AFL level. Honest thoughts?

His both , he goes in hard and has speed.

Can butcher the ball on occasions , but that can happen when you have played under 50 games.

Hard at it, will never play in the centre square, still makes mistakes, has average disposal. But on the other hand he is lightning quick, finds the football, draws alot of free kicks, hard at it, and gives it his all week in and out. I wouldnt want him if he was the future of my midfield but he is handy.

He will always give you 100%
He is the sort of player that will try harder when things are tough.

So far he is a impact player , but can be potentially a foley type with more games under his belt

he may not be the most talented footballer but he is the most gutsiest and most courages for a small type player, he puts his body on the line and doesnt take any crap...

id have him watch my back any day.....

Clarko sees a lot of himself in Benny. Small and without a huge amount of natural skill but completely makes up for it with his hardness around the ball.

Key for me when looking and making judgements on players besides silky skills are...

1.Does he perform at the same level when the team is having a crap day and getting rolled?

2.Would he die for the jumper?

A big yes to both of them.

I would have Benny picked in our first 22 every week.

Was in all our top 10's last year that he could compete in, obviously not tap outs but disposals, marks, handballs etc. Sewell, Mitchell, Lewis, Hodge all had big numbers but Benny Mac was close behind all those guys and thats not a bad group to be behind.

Him and Jake King are brothers from another mother.

Tough as nails and gutsy as they get.

Definatly agree, but McGlynn is better then King. Buts thats Terry Wallaces fault once again because he had the smart idea to put King on good forwards every week so King can have a bag kicked on him.

McGlynn is more a running, outside player, who pumps the ball inside 50.

Not to say he isn't hard at it, as he attacks each contest ferociously. He just isn't an inside (in and under) type midfielder like Sewell and Mitchell who get the ball and distribute it to other players. He is the player these guys give it to. More along the Bateman lines.

Hope that makes sense.

No way is he better than King. King is a better mark, kick, plays smarter and tries just as hard.

Secondly he most certainly could play in the midfield as an inside midfielder which could help alleviate the drama of his kicking efficiency for mine.

Your kidding? Have you seen how many times he has been dominated this season? Has more brain fades then McGlynn, and their disposal is about even. King has been beaten in defence when he has to play accountable, he is a loose backpocket at best.

I think he is quite similar to medhurst in a way.

Medhurst has more skill, but Bmac tries harder EVERY week.

I would rather Bmac. Collingwood needs players who try every week, not ones that play a blinder once every 4 weeks.

^^^ Nothing at all like Medhurst, who is a Farmer/Milne type player.

The Benny/Jake King comparison is far more appropriate and as Roughie pointed out, Benny is a lot better.

TO be fair King is not a defender, hes been playing the small defender role since raines(who again is NOT a defender) is out injured, i dont think Mcglynn would go well playing on Didak ect. like king is more of a midfielder then defender.

Wallace is just playing king in a very average position.

Ild still take Mcglynn

I said in another thread that Wallace shouldnt be playing King there because they are torching him. But he is a frustrating footballer with the ball in his hands. I still rather McGlynn these two are similar players, but I just preffer Benny Mack over King.

That's the most pathetic troll I have read in months. Seriously, Spagger, if you're getting laughs with that stuff on your own board, you should stay there.
