View Full Version : Three compulsory changes this week - who do you think will come in and why

RustyHawk
20 May 2008, 22:18
Hawthorn have to make 3 compulsory changes this week

Guerra - injured - small backman

Crawford - 1 week suspension - midfielder/ forward

McGlynn - 4 week suspension. - midfielder / forward

My possibles
Tim Clarke - almost 100% guarenteed Tim will get the call up

Plus

Gary Moss (if fit) - crawf's replacement

Jarryd Morton. - McGlynn.

or

Tom Murphy for Guerra and Clarke and Moss.

*assuming Tuck is still not right to go.

Slug Kennedy will be a big chance

Out: Guerra

In: Murphy

If my memory serves me right, he played on Robbo in Round 1 and did an excellent job (well at least for 3 quarters)

Out: Crawf

In: Kennedy

It's time for K3. With all due respect to Melbourne, it's the perfect opposition for a youngster to make his debut against. I wouldn't be suprised to see the coaching stuff make him spend a fair chunk of the game smack bang in the middle to hasten his development.

Out: McGlynn

In: Clarke

The monty, for mine. Would do a great job tagging a Bruce or McLean if given the chance.

I think that Clarke is in for sure.... now because stokes and kennedy were injured at box hill ..... I would like to see Murphy in the backline and the forgotten THORP get a run.... Just give him a go and let him get some confidence with the senior group. He will not let anyone down.

Kennedy - Yes (will be fit to play)
Clarke - Yes (BHH best player for the past few weeks)
Morton may get the nod ahead of Murphy who may need another week in the magoos

MightyFighting
20 May 2008, 22:35
It getting dangerous in the midfield. That midfield zone only works if the midfielders are good enough. If we have to replace too many players with youngsters, it could fall apart.

Gene Simmons
20 May 2008, 22:40
Clarke definately.
Kennedy (hopefully!!)
& Either Morton or Murphy.

Being a Sunday match, I expect all of the above 4 players + Gary Moss to be added to an extended bench!

Time Machine - on what grounds do you believe Joey Kennedy will play???

Hawk43
20 May 2008, 22:46
on the grounds that he has been one of box hills hardest and best each week. If clarke doesn't get a run this week with so many out i doubt he will again.
I'm hoping murphy for guerra
kennedy for crawf
moss for mcglynn

time to see what a couple of these young guys are made of.

20 May 2008, 22:52
I think..

In's:

1. Clarke - I think is certain. Replaces Crawford.
2. Murphy (if fit) - Replaces Guerra.
3. Kennedy (if fit) - Replaces McGlynn.

I'd like to see a few more of the younger players (Kennedy, Tuck, Murphy) being played to increase their experience in case our depth is tested later in the season or finals.

Injuries can sometimes be a blessing for a team, i.e Guerra offers Murphy to improve further, and increase competetiveness for positions.

Would prefer to not see Clarke brought in. We know what he can do, let's see what the young guys can do. You can say that it can backfire, but really, if we want to retain these guys on the list, let's see them play some senior footy and prove they belong. from all accounts, Kennedy, Moss and Morton will all give a good account of themselves.

In: Murphy- He matches up well on Robertson and did a great job on him last time.

Clarke- Hard runner, will add some experience with the loss of Crawf

Morton-Has had senior experience, can play the forward flank role like McGlynn is a good match up and works well as a spot up target.

Out of left field (dont you like these Americanisms)

Boyle in - always seems to play very very well against Melbourne

Move Osborne from forwards to mids/back

or

Boyle in and move Rioli - give him his time in the middle? Good time to try it out.

Josh Kennedy, should be included if he has overcome the injury from the weekend. Has shown consistent form in the VFL this season.
Tim Clarke, one of the best against Port Melb, consistent so far in the VFL... good replacement for Crawf.
Tom Murphy... defender to replace Goo. Not a bad comeback over the weekend against Port Melb.

Josh Kennedy + Tim Clarke and Thomas Murphy :)

So excited for Joey.

I've posted elsewhere that's I'd be happy to bring in a bunch of young blokes just to get some games in to them, however what I think will actually happen is:

Murph for Goo, Clarke for Crawf.

The only question is who is in for Benny? Kennedy has the form, but there must be question marks over replacing a hard runner like Ben with Kennedy who struggles for fitness at VFL level. Perhaps Morton a chance just on running ability. Tuck in if he comes up, but that doesn't sound likely?

Would love to see K3, Moss and Morton all come in and get some game time.

Having said that, you would imagine that Clarke comes in for Crawf, Murphy for Guerra and one of the above 3 for McGlynn.

Will probably get shot for this but perhaps we could give Cyril a weeks rest and freshen him up for the Doggies giving someone else the chance to step up for a game. Its a long season and given we are fairly likely to play finals the last thing we want is for Cyril to be burnt out at the important time.

I like the romance of it. K3 is AFL class. Will get the nod.

Mossy has done buggar all. Good tough come back from a shoulder injury but is nowhere near AFL standard. Clarke is better.

Morton - A good game to give him a taste.

Agreed. Clarke, Murphy, Thorp.

Murphy in for Guerra - Murphy hasnt done anything wrong, deserves the opportunity

Clarke - In for Crawford - You know he can Run all day (And with luck do something with the ball!)

The final In will depend on Injury I would think. But it'd be out of Tuck/Kennedy/Morton/Moss

Clarke has to come in this week, even if he isn't in our best 22.

Crawf, Hodge, McGlynn, Guerra, Tuck all out and all running type players, which our game plan is built around.

We need his hard running and discipline to make sure the machine doesn't miss a beat with all those other guys out.

Clarke a definite.
Kennedy a definite if fit.
Murph was playing well prior to his injury so should be given the chance again.

Some people are saying Thorp. Is this just wishful thinking?
Or might it be a good opportunity (with no disrespect to Melb!!!) to bring him in for another taste?

I think it's a good time to let him run around with the big boys. Throw him forward, back or wherever. Doesn't really matter. Pump games into this boy whenever we get the chance.

A little confused here guys. Have read and heard that thorp & dowler have been out of form and struggling in the 2's. Is it a lack of support cast or just not in the groove at present. Then i read many fellow BF posters calling for Thorp to get a start. Live in QLD and see no Box hill games. Is thorp ready for game???

21 May 2008, 10:32
i think murphy and clarke are definite ins.

the next in line would have been stokes, but he got hammied, then i would say k3 but is he injured? then going on form and consistency it would have to be morton......but i'd like to see whitecross get a game, i just luv the way this guy moves and he gives me the impression of being a quick learner and very capable of doing what he is told (ie. stick to structures/role).

having said that i'd also like to see thorp/dowler/moss/renouf get a game at some stage too, perfect opportunity to do it against melbourne.

based on form in the magoos? no. but that is not the sole criteria used when selecting.

I have to shoot you down. He had a rest last week. The draw this year has two mid-season breaks for players to freshen up. Besides, we don't need to unsettle the team even more.

Murphy for Guerra. Defender for Defender seems fair.

Kennedy for McGlynn. Kennedy done everything to get the nod. Chance to get him going in a match with considerable less pressure then that of other matches (nto saying meblourne are easy beats, but there is less pressure)

Morton or Clarke for Crawf. Depends. If going in to shut down a player, clarke gets the nod. If going in to crush, kill, destroy Melbourne, Morton will get the nod.

Outside Chance, Moss.

spudley14
21 May 2008, 12:43
Murphy for Guerra, Murphy to play on Russ Robbo, Croad or Gilham on Miller, if theres no other tall forward Croad to play loose man.

Kennedy or Morton for Crawf

Clarke for McGlynn

Leather Poisoning
21 May 2008, 12:51
If Kennedy is fit he'll be in for sure.

Murphy for goo, I think that goes without saying (another selection headache dodged by the selection committee.)

Clarke or Morton for Benny.

I'd like to see Morton have a crack. The Dees midfield is one we'll most likely go head to head with, and they don't have a McLeod type of the back flank that we really need to stop.

If K3 and Murphy are definites then they'll probably work on whether or not it's too big a risk to bring in K3 and Morton in the same game.

If Clarkey just comes in to tag Nathan Jones then thats enough:thumbsu:
K3 been in BH best every single game!
Murph for Goo just makes sense

BR ins

K3
Murphy
Beau Dowler. He gets so much of it at BH but hasnt been using well. If given the chance of having it on his chest from Changa,Youngy and the boys, i think it will lift him to a new standard. He is so far ahead of Thorp at the 3 BHill games I have seen its not funny. Just needs his chance to play with the big boys:thumbsu:

Some of the selections thoughts seem pretty strange.

We lose Crawf and McGlyn. Both have huge tanks and run all day covering huge amounts of ground.

Guerra HBF Role will be filled by Dew for the most part so we are say covering a Hodge Role effectively.

In's For Mine

Tim Clarke Certain starter atleast covers McGlyns role

Next we have issue's here. (assuming Tuck is out as well)

Kennedy IMO is to slow and needs to play in the centre (no room there with Mitchell Sewell and Lewis)

Murphy good backman but Melbourne key possie players are pretty thin on the ground and Croad and Gilham have any well covered.

Moss looked pretty average from what I have seen

Would like to see Morton and Thorp get a run if both are fit. Both good size athletic types. Will allow Clarkson some scope to move some players around. That my thoughts any old how

Seems like our depth is finally being tested.

Could not however ask for a better time for it with melbourne coming up.

I think we might see boyle (is he fit?) get another chance. Ozzie will go to the wing/flank to replace mcglynn.

Probably murphy and clarke for the other two positions.

I don't really think it is.

Round 1 we were without Lewis, Hodge and Crawford + McGlynn, Croad & Williams.

I think this round's missing players are replaceable, far more than round ones.

Ok, I've given this some thought over the last day, and I have a theory.

Jordan Lewis now has the tools to play an outside role, we've already seen that side of his game, and we know he can do it very well.

Lewie to the outside, Joey gets a run in the guts, Injury permitting of course.

Tomas Murphy didn't get dropped on form, and last time we played the Dees, he did a good job on Robbo, till he pumped up his stats in junk time, so I'd put young Tomas straight back into the lineup.

Tim Clarke or Morts for the final spot, Timmy has the bigger tank, but Morts is no disgrace himself, and at 191cm, offers a little more versatility matchup wise for the coaching staff.

N.B: Joey had 24 touches, including a heap of clearances, and 2 goals in just 3 quarters of footy on the weekend, the kid has become that bloody good at VFL level, he deserves a run even on 1 leg.

Any X-Men fans out there would be familiar with The Juggernaut, a dude that cannot be stopped once he gets moving, well that's exactly what Joey is like when blokes try to tackle him in the VFL, it's almost comical. "pun intended" :p

Murphy will get the nod a million times before Morton. Anyone who watches Box hill will agree. Murphy has the makings of a sensational defender.

Clarke will come in for Mighty Mouse. On form probably doesnt deserve it but I can't see anyone else fit the mould.

In my opinion, K3 for crawf. Its about time he gets blooded.
