View Full Version : Avril Lavigne
Doesn't deserve her own thread but...
To my eternal shame I will admit that I don't hate her first album. Some perfectly adequate faux-punk pop songs that she apparently "co-wrote".
However once the original writers cracked the sads with the misappropriation of credit, it seems that poor old Avril has been a little exposed. But even sadder than that, after an underwhelming follow up album, her third album seems to be full of absolute putrid, juvenile, pus-filled abominations that somehow seem to be outperforming anything she has ever done.:eek::confused::eek:
And while I'm on a rant, can we please call an end to this trend of popsters stealing the worst conceit of hip-hop in mentioning or spelling out their own names in songs?

I assume that you blame beer for this comment as well ;)
The day I respect Avril "Rock Chick" Lavigne is the day she publicly announces that she finally realises what a load of juvenile, puerile, clichéd, self indulgent, pain-in-the-arse, boring crap her song Skater Boy is (I refuse to spell it the way she does). A day that will never come.

The point is, songs like Skater Boy appear to be a career highlight compared with the more recent drivel. Skater Boy is simply a gimmick pop song, no harm no foul. Other early songs like Complicated and I'm With You are quite well constructed compositions. But still, as you say, she's a manufactured "rock chick", no less a product of record label manipulation than Britney or Jessica Simpson.

There's no doubt about that. Taken straight from the pages of a McDonalds menu. And she's perhaps even a tad more insidious as the two artists you mention were already wading in a heavily diluted, heavily artificial musical pool (ie. Top 40 pop), whereas Avril was initially pitched and marketed to a slightly different demographic. Distracting the minds of kids who had enough going for them to reject 'nsync and the like. Evil stuff indeed.
To momentarily go out on a tangent here, it is much the same reason why I find the music of Matchbox 20 so offensive.
Saying all that, I, too, would do Avril in a flash.

I'm surprised that this is a general theme here.
Not saying I wouldn't - the "would I/wouldn't I" bar is set particularly low for me* - just that she's not in my top 5,000.
* I mean really, really low.

Yep, boner like a shin.
I would almost do anything that had 2 legs, and one bird with one leg who is kinda fine.

Sir Paul's ex-missus? She's also worth a few bob these days.

Ooops. I appear to have left off the phrase "high-rise apartment" from my earlier post.
(P.S. Stop listening to your wife all the time.)

Why would you want to last that long?
I have a deep appreciation of that song "Nobody's Home".
It was bizzare that it came form her though. Like Finding out Davinchi also lead the COllingwood cheer squad.
A crap artist who can't sing without a studio getting her in key.

One of the funniest things I have ever seen/heard is Ruby Wax covering Sk8ter Boi for Comic Relief.
For some reason it is not on Da Choob, probably because if it was, society would break down as the entire world died of laughter as one.
Its genius.
