I'm a little disappointed... I'm clearly the marquee moderator around here...
Hahaha, I think Mark's producers will be able to sort out who's who.
To be honest Mark stepped over the line in requesting Jabso call in, surely a reply email would have done the job Mark.
I'm a little disappointed......
So are we, but we humor you.
lol what's this all about?

Regarding what I wonder?
Seems a bit far fetched for some radio dude to be calling out for a guy on an internet forum... :o

Bah - Like I'd give up my identity. ;)
Besides, I actually agree with the article. Players shouldn't be reading what we post. By and large, we're all amateurs and, quite frankly, don't really know what we're talking about.
I remember posting things like "Dane Swan should be delisted" in the past... In that situation, I didn't know what I was talking about, so why should my uninformed pessimism have been given any chance to affect the psyche of a player?
C'mon Jabs get on there, he's about to start talking about your email and wants to chat.:thumbsu:
Anyone got a link to the article?

SEN's live stream is so shit. It lasts 15 seconds.
I tried to get on, the producer asked my name put me on hold and then came back and told me they don't have time for me...... he asked for my mobile and they will call me back at 2.30pm..... we shall see.
Just sent this text though,
Mark you should NOT have read Jabso's name (****) out on air without permission. My Real Name Is TESS!
He wont read it out I will betcha.

Any care to enlighten the ones who missed the broadcast?
I'd like to know the basic run down of what happened.

Get Doran to find me the NSW/ACT Rams U16 squad, will you?
And while you're at it, lend weight to the campaign to have the Father/Son rule reduced to 50 games.
Cheers. :)

Do you know of any other potential F/S's we could get if the games criteria was changed?
Would open up F/S selections significantly across the league I'd imagine. A lot of people have played 50 games before...

Cmon guys, can someone post briefly what happened today in regards to this?
What was Doran saying... why did he call out Jabso... what of Jabso's email was read... this is quite intriguing but I sadly have zero access to SEN
Cheers in advance
I sent him an email to get something off my chest then as soon as I sent it I left for uni. It was pretty long so I thought he wouldn't be bothered reading it out on air. I don't usually listen to his show anyway. However I tried listening on the radio on the tram (which is hard for an AM station) and did hear most of what he read of my email, although he only read highlights of it and didn't read out anything about the media taking a lot of ideas from bigfooty.
I didn't want to ring up even if I was available too anyway as I felt I said what I needed to say and I'm not as good articulating my thoughts orally as I am by paper/text. I didn't want to call up and him focusing on just the issue of the players not reading the site, which I actually agree that they shouldn't, and I am someone who is actually pretty critical of the attitude of most of bigfooty which is why I rarely post on the main board. I didn't want to become a spokesman for bigfooty when I actually agree that a lot of the posts have gone too far.
I don't care about Doran calling my real first name out, it's not a huge issue and he was well within his rights to ask for me to call up however. I doubt if I hadn't mentioned I was a moderator he would be that interested in talking to me.
Here's a copy of the email
Hey Mark,
I am a moderator at bigfooty.com and I would like to set a few things
straight and iron out a few perceptions of the sites that have emerged
from Robbo's article. First of all I know it's being pedantic but it's
not call blogging it's a forum. A blog is someone's own personal page to
write opinions down while a forum is a forum for many opinions.
The moderators (around 40 of them), who are volunteers, delete anything
too personal, over the top, or just plain nasty and give infractions
which can range from warnings to total banning from the site. The site
also, like SEN, has to stamp out any rumours (substantiated or
unsubstantiated) that could result in legal action (for example the
papers in the gutter story). However we do not necessarily have to
delete negative opinions of a player just because they are negative.
Basically the site is made up of 16 club boards each of varying
popularity (for example the Collingwood board, is only around the 5th
most popular because there are a few popular non-bigfooty collingwood
sites) a main AFL board where a lot of inter-supporter discussion takes
place, and Bay 13 which is almost, but not quite, no holds bars, almost
bigfooty's dumping ground. If anything the harshest words come from the
forums that are one team early, especially with Collingwood which has
one forum full of positive posters, one forum full of negative very
harsh supporters and a couple of more that are a mix of the two.
Yes the opinions on the forum can be very harsh but talkback callers on
the radio are just as harsh. I'm sure players are advised not to listen
to talkback radio especially when it gets heated after a heavy loss etc.
It is no more harsh than you'll hear at the footy or talking around the
water cooler or pub. Like everything in the world there are plenty of
idiots who post absolute rubbish and plenty of people with insightful
football knowledge who post very good articles. If I had to guess the
average age would be something from 17-30, however most of the nasty
stuff dished out is done by under 17s.
Lastly about the media and sites like bigfooty. The way they treat such
sites with comtempt is ironic considering a lot of their stories and
rumours are actually generated from such sites. There was a certain
footy journo on The Age who ripped a completely unsubstantiated story
about Tarrant smoking and drinking heavily at a Jet concert which was
ripped off without credit from Nick's Collingwood Page and printed as a
story, talk about gutter journalism. Mark Stevens stole someone's post
about Franklin in the first line of an article. The pulse takes a lot of
it's more humurous stories from bigfooty. 90% of the rumours that turn
out not to be true on SEN are started on websites like bigfooty and you
discuss them as if they have credibility yet turn around and smack such
sites when you read something you don't like.
Glad I got that off my chest
Cheers
The bold part is what he read out.
I am not so much pissed off at Robbo's article more than the general reputation and the contempt that a lot of media people give the fan sites despite them actually using the sites to their advantage. I hate the generalisation.

Well said Jabso. I haven't kept track of what has been said on the main board in relation to the article this morning (I know there is a thread), however if not already, I would think it is worth putting what you wrote also in there.
Oh and Hi guys by the way. Usually post on the main board, but enjoy reading your posts here too when I get the chance.
That was a great email Jabso. Pity he didn't read the whole lot out!
Doran wasn't at all critical of Jabso from what I heard when listening. He didn't call him out, he just wanted to chat about it.
Shaun Higgins agreed also with most of the points.
Francis Leech on the show after Doran's was very dismissive of another caller defending bigfooty because of one bad experience he's had with it with a rumour being spread about him.
I'm not a huge fan of Doran's show at all but he did handle it pretty well I thought. I've always been a bigger fan of Leech than Doran but after the way he handled the matter I'm not so sure. Doran is probably the fairer person in terms of having your say but Leech is a better radio personality. I guess a bit of it comes down to the types of shows they run. The afternoon show is more laid back and not many big name interviews while the run home goes for 3 hours and they have to fit in big name interviews for prime time so Leech may seem dismissive of some people's calls. Although in this case I thought he handled it very poorly, didn't let southswan have his say because his mind was made up.
