View Full Version : ROUND 9: PORT vs SYDNEY, FOOTY PARK

Crunch game for the home side on Saturday afternoon sitting at 3-5, a game and change out from the 8. Possibly early to say that, but a loss to Sydney and the gap to catch the top 8 gets harder and harder to bridge. It won't be easy either with the Swans coming off a big win and apart from Kennelly and Hall have just about a full list to choose from.
Statistically and on form it's Sydney who deserve to go in as favorites. 10-6 all time is their record against Port, as well as a respectable 3-3 including one of their finest ever wins (2003 finals) at the ground. However I suspect that the return of Chad Cornes and Michael Wilson, the heart and soul of Port Adelaide, will inspire them despite S.Burgoyne's suspension.
For mine, it's Port by a couple of goals. Brisbane viewers can also see the game on the 10HD channel apparantly, not that I'll be watching through local commitments....
I don't just pick Sydney because there my team. I tip them pretty well and i'm confidant about this game.
Provided the Swans continue with the midfield pressure applied last time the teams met and kick relatively accurately and the backs continue with their good form I think we will overcome Port again. Were Port can turn around last result is to string their possessions together through the midfield, and were our taggers must come break this chain. Kennelly is a huge miss but Mattner and Malceski can generate our counter attacking game which done well is a weakness were the Power can be exploited. I have a couple of bets of 1-19 and 20-39. I think the swans by 20 points.
Port by 30.
Best. Salopek, K. Cornes, Lade, Westhoff.

Lets just try and forget about his first shot on goal.
Also the Swans are playing really badily when they are trying to get the ball out of their defensive 50. Its painful to watch.

We are playing horrible.
More hitouts, possesions, Marks and we are still losing.
If we could use the footy at leats half-decent we would be 3 or 4 goals ahead.
The amount of times we have turned it ove rinside 50 is terrible.
:(
Can someone please send a sniper to take out Thurstans. Please he is the worst player in the afl.

4:30 to go in the third term, Sydney lead 85-73.
Micky-O has just marked, lining up for his third of the quarter and missed. So 86-73.

Three quarter time, Sydney leads 87-73.
Port took control for much of that term and failed to put it on the board; Sydney absorbed the charge and steadied again as they have all day. That would be deflating for the Power you'd think but the game is still up for grabs. Sydney squandered a few chances to really put the heat on in the latter stages of the term as well.

Interestingly the margin hasn't gotten beyond 18 points in favour of the Swans; my tip is if they kick the first goal of the final term (to open up the 20 point lead) they'll win.

These commentators are the most biased commentators I have ever heard. The umpires have missed things all ways today but they have been consistently bad at least.

what a great game.
Port, like Freo, are making a habit of losing close games. If they play like that every week, they will win more often than not.

Port have had tougher games though and have potential. There will always be doubts surrounding Freo.

A great game of footy made even better by an awesome Sydney win! Seeing feral Port fans leaving en masse before the final siren is always one of life's great joys.
