Great to see we were able to close out the game, much like the West Coast match. 12 months we ago we would of dropped our head.

Really lacking lead up forwards, there was a thread a week or so ago on Tarrant. I believe this guy still has alot to offer when his confidence is up and if he does want to return to Melbourne we should try and lure him. Hopefully with the return of Cloke and Hartlett (who i'm still not convinced about) will see us with more options up forward other than Fev.

Our defence was solid our midfield solid, we just lack options when running out of defence, hence we panick and turn it over. Tarrant and the best KPP Forward we can get our hands on this year's draft should round out the neccessities we need at this footy club.

I still have grave doubts on Carrazzo's place in the team, his work ethic is great, but if he's being played soley as a BP then I would be giving Armfield or Anderson a game first.

Also don't be too harsh on Hampson, the kid tapped well against a monster, with the proper development he will be a vital member of the team - another confidence player.

Tough win, albeit unspectacular, but alot of improvement needs to be made during the week if we're any chance against a fired up and angry Geelong.

I thought Carrazzo was pretty good, don't know what game you were watching. And he kicked a great goal and a crucial moment.

The biggest problem I thought was our inability to hold the ball in our 50. A lot of their goals came from them rebounding and moving it from defence without enough pressure from our forwards. Fortunately we picked up in the last quarter and Fev nailed a big tackle. But they need to do that all game.

Will throw in my 2 cents worth.

The guy that is the captain/spokesman for the Team out West,
had a chance to win the game from 20 yards,
and missed an utter lolly.

He seems to escape any sort of blame for their loss.

And that staggers me.

Yep. Although I do understand where the OP is coming from, "grave" is a bit strong.

I thought our biggest problem was kicking it to the hole where there was a spare Freo player waiting for it. And then doing it again another twenty times. I thought we'd stopped playing stupid football like that.

We tried every way we could to lose this match. I hope everyone has a good hard think about what they were trying to do today.

Certainly not.

But as the "go to" man,
i would have expected him to nail that shot,
dead bang.

And if the history of our wonderful club,
has proved anything, you have to step up.

Sometimes you have to win a game yourself.
Make a statement.
And he stuffed it.

That is that.

2 major problems . Our boys need to pressure the opposition a lot more !

That is that.we had plenty of opportunities earlier in the game to put the game beyond doubt but we missed too many easy shots. we dominted the inside 50's, clearances and just about every other stat. Freo were lucky to be in the game.

One of the real positives from the game for me was the fact that we conceded 7 goals to Pavlich & Tarrant, with Fev only kicking 1 & we still got the points. If someone had told me before the game that this was going to happen, I would have expected a sizeable loss. Today's match was definitely won by some of the lesser lights eg Bentick, Betts, Gibbs, Grigg, Pfeiffer & to a lesser extent Edwards & Bower.

Even though Fremantle have been disappointing so far this season, they still looked better than us on paper & as mentioned above, got good output from both Pavlich & Tarrant. In addition, Sandilands dominated the ruck, McPharlin had the better of Fev & Solomon tried hard all day. Having those names up & running should have resulted in a victory to Fremantle, but instead the Carlton kids got us over the line.

Just learnt to win ugly today. Really had to fight hard against Fremantle, especially with Tarrant and Pavlich firing up forward, and us without both T-Bird and Jamison.

And what was more pleasing, was seeing us win with Fevola only kicking 1 goal.

Spot on. They really made us pay every time we did a clanger.
Carrots was very good - beat Farmer, had about 20 eff D, laid 7 T and moved it on faster this week (why would we drop him? esp when he can cover several posns) :thumbsu:

As I said, I think we should target Tarrant. If we are going to make a run for a premiership in the next 5 years then I believe he could fill a role as that leadup half forward complimenting Fisher, Fev, Hampson and hopefully the best KPP Half forward in the 08' draft. Another Eddie Betts would be handy too...

biggest problem was decision making, murph still has a long way to go, and so does alot of others. how u can kick a ball inside 50 to eddie betts the smallest guy on the field with two tall defenders on him is beyond me. it happened 3 times in the 2nd half. sure betts has picked up his game but he doesn have a 2m vertical leap. fish needs to learn how to kick the footy 30m out on a tight angle, hes playing forward pocket ffs. he should eat those up. it was good to see 3 tall marking options with edwards fish and fev, with pfiefer (however u spell it) and betts crumbing, but we still need a CHF and we still need to convert these inside 40m goals.when our defence is under the pump undermanned and unexperinced only forward pressure will help these guys out

No.

He is the captain,
and owned the game.

He has been the spokesperson for this lot,
and he had his chance,
which was a goddam lolly from 20 yards,
he should pay.

6 time All Australian,
hit the post from 20yds.

A goddam lolly.
There is no excuse for that.

Very pleased to get the win, but I did have my doubts if we'd get there. I thought we let them back into the game late in the second, we just stopped and had virtually lost the lead by half time. Too many points (13), pity we weren't more accurate. Happy though with the multiple goal scorers and not such a heavy reliance on Fevola (Fisher 2, Betts 2, Scotland 2, Fevola, Simpson, Wiggins, Edwards, Browne, Carrazzo, Stevens, Pfeiffer).

There were times in the third and forth where both sides were playing safe, cautious, keeping possession football. I was thinking they need a cracker up their butt to get moving and we weren't gonna win playing like that!

Luckily we became more attacking and taking risks and they paid off. Well done boys! :thumbsu:

The commentary for this match was appalling. No wonder people think we got a ride from the umpires.

Michael Christian on Judd free in centre just prior to Edwards goal early in 3rd quarter. He said Crowley only held his arm AFTER Judd got the ball, then called it a bizarre decision. They then showed two replays clearly showing Judd having to take possession with one arm as Crowley already had the other one. Does he correct himself? Of course not.

When Fisher marked in the first quarter, clearly had control, until he hit the ground. Voss said Under 8s hold the ball longer than that. They then mentioned the Fisher mark sarcastically twice more in the commentary. When did the rule change because those were always marks when I was growing up.

They had 18 scoring shots to us 27 if we had of been accurate would of been a way bigger margin!

Totally agree todn
these idiots never apologise, when the replay clearly shows their call in the wrong
although,as you stated, it was only christian and voss, two very mediocre
commentators IMO.

I said the same thing to my wife last night, if the commetators say it, people believe it, them keep coming back refering to Fishes mark was a joke..

Was great to see Carrazzo go back into defence and do a pretty good job on Farmer, whilst also giving us some run out of defence. Not sure what his efficiency was yesterday, but he certainly seemed to hit alot more targets than what he has been doing in previous weeks.

Also, a great long goal by him as well.

A win is a win, and it's always pleasing to get the 4 points regardless.

However, we made plenty of mistakes and I'm sure the coaching staff will make the players well aware of this, if they aren't already.

Our disposal into the forward 50, and our conversion in front of goals was appaling - realistically, we shouldn't have won this game by 9 points or whatever - we should have won by 6 goals at least.

It's good to get a win, but we have to remember that it was against Fremantle who aren't exactly good. If we put that kind of performance in against a decent team we would be blown out of the water.

Some huge positives from the game, but we've just got to ensure that we put in for the 4 quarters and to focus on doing the basics right every single time. No point trying to do the flashy and sensational if we can't nail the basics.
