View Full Version : Whats happening with Footy Tasmania?

I am originally from Burnie (now in Adelaide) and I manage to pick up the Mercury from time to time.

I picked it up today to find open letters from Football Tasmania, regarding the downfall of the State Wide Leage (TFL) and spotted an article on the AFL site about a Tassie VFL team.

Can someone please provide me with more info about this situation. Have the 6 SWL clubs joined the NTFL and SFL? I am reading plenty of finger pointing at 60's and 70's footy administrators in these open letters from Footy Tasmania, but the guys running the shop in the 80's, 90's and 2000/01 seasons need a few kicks up the arse as well IMO.

Many thanks

Jerome

Jerome,

The 'State Leagues Around The Country' thread has some postings about the State-Wide League. I don't know much about it myself, but some of the others have mentioned a little about it.

The Southern Football League has been forced to accept the three estranged clubs of Clarence, Glenorchy and North Hobart by Football Tasmania. It will be an 15 team competition. The price was high for the three clubs. Clarence must get rid of their nickname the Roos. North Hobart must choose new colours to play in and Glenorchy need to change both of these before they can enter the league.
The edition of these clubs into the SFL will probably cause the death of a number of SFL clubs over the next few years because they will not be able to compete finacialy or on field.
