I heard of talk of the AFL buying Homebuish. Why dont they instead spend the money on building a decent sized stadium in West Sydney. I haev heard talk of a 10-15 000 seat stadium, i reckon this is very short sighted. West Sydney is a growing area in terms of population with multiple sports being played there especially with the West Sydney soccer team coming in. SO why dont FFA, the AFL and NRL come along with the state government build a multi purpose stadium that has a capacity of 25 000 or so. You can play all kinds of sports there not just AFL. ANd of course it would be good for the local community
West Sydney soccer team, maybe some rugby league and union games as well as AFL could be played there.
Apoloigies if this has already been discussed in other threads but i haevnt delved deeply into other threads.
The AFL don't need anyone’s help to build a 25,000 seat stadium.
The cost goes up exponentially from there though.
As for expanding Blacktown, maybe that’s one of their long term options.’

AFL, NRL, Soccer and union wont work together.
What you will see if ANZ given to AFL, and NRL, FFA, ARU will work together to build a 60000-70000 purpose built stadium in a better location.

Why would they work together to build a 60,000 purpose built stadium if they can't fill the SFS, the 40,000 purpose built stadium build near the CBD?

The showgrounds or Blacktown are both possibilities, but I would imagine both would be seen as temporary homes while support builds. The long-term plan would be Homebush.

Why would they?
There is perfectly good one being wasted at the moment.
So you spend $200 million buying an 80k seat stadium, or $300 million on a far inferior 30k seat stadium?
The problem with stadiums is that the financial outlay on building it is massive, and unless you've got 50+ serious events (i.e events that draw decent crowds, not a school athletics carnival or an NRL game) then it's not going to make money.
Once it's built though, if you can pick it up for far less than the replacement cost would be, then it might be worth it.
remember, the AFL is not buying the stadium outright itself for 200 mill, its looking at buying the stadium lease as part of a consortium for 200 mill.
the AFLs contribution will likely be alot less than half that, and for that money, they will control scheduling and advertising at the venue for 25 odd years

That makes more sense
But what i mean is if West Sydney come in they wont get 40 000 every game so it will be a hollow atmospehere at homnebush

That's really unavoidable in the circumstance .
